Whether capturing images in the studio or on location, the Vello FreeWave Wireless Remote Shutter Release adds flexibility and versatility to your shooting style. Photography unplugged - shooters can interact with a model, view the scene or set from alternate angles, or set a camera by a stream to capture an image of a bear hunting while you remain at a safe distance away - all this and more without missing a beat, a shot, or a moment. This particular FreeWave unit is directly compatible with the Sony Alpha series of DSLRs. It can also be adapted to other camera systems by simply switching the connection cable.
This versatile shutter release features Smart Code technology which allows it to be configured to operate on up to 16 million possible radio channels. You can easily switch channels to "zero in" on a frequency that provides optimal range and functionality.
The FreeWave operates with radio frequency (RF) technology, therefore a direct line of sight is not necessary; radio waves pass through objects such as windows and walls. It is unlike other wireless remotes on the market that operate on an infrared (IR) system and require a direct line of sight between transmitter and receiver to make things work.
Since touching the camera even lightly while capturing an image can create a blurred image, the FreeWave eliminates this by tripping the shutter without any disturbances. This is critical when photographing subjects close up, and for long-exposures and macros. It is also extremely valuable when photographing nature, wildlife and other subjects that are difficult for you to get close to.

- Smart Code
- The FreeWave's Smart Code feature allows you to operate on 16,000,000 possible radio channels. No DIP switches need to be set, and one transmitter can trigger multiple receivers. The units have been synchronized at the factory, so your system can work right out of the box. However, to maximize signal quality and range, it is best to use the Smart Code technology to sense the "quiet" frequencies in your environment and re-synchronize on that channel.

- The FreeWave can fire the camera's shutter from distances up to 320 feet (100 meters).
- Dedicated Sony Shoe
- The receiver sports a dedicated Sony type shoe, which means that it can be mounted directly to the camera's hot shoe.
- Multi-function
- Trigger your camera wirelessly or wired. Wired triggering even works if the receiver battery is dead or missing.
- Dual-Function Release
- Press the transmitter's button half way to focus; press it fully to trigger the shutter.
- Delayed Release
- The two-second delay function gives you extra time to get into position.

- You can take multiple shots with one press of the trigger.
- Long Exposures
- With the FreeWave you can control the length of the exposure remotely.

- Two LED indicators confirm pre-focus and exposure when in the wireless mode.

- The FreeWave includes a camera release cable that works with your particular camera model. By simply changing to another cable (additional purchase required) a single receiver can work with many other cameras as well.

Tried to use a generic Wireless Release with not very good results. Plugged the Vello in to my a65 and it does everything it is supposed to do. I would definitely recommend it to a friend since Bello makes it for all major camera brands.

Overall, this remote works great and is nicely made and is easy to use right out of the box! I'd prefer that the receiver had a smaller footprint, so it didn't interfere with the flash while mounted to the shoe. I had a HECK of time getting the receiver off the shoe the first time, to the point I was afraid of damaging the camera. (After sanding the latch mechanism a tiny bit with an emery board, it slides off just fine.) Lastly, I would have liked to review the manual before I purchased this unit, but neither B&H nor Vello offer one online.

I have only had this product for a short time but so far it seems to be working very well . The only problem I have had is it interferes with the popup flash . The instructions say it can be turned around backwards and mounted that a way but the way the unit and the camera are designed this does not work . It's very light and can dangle from the card that attaches it to the camera .

I purchased this to try and get closer to my bird feeders. I just set it up, have a seat and wait for birds to come. A great way for close up shots. I've only used it at a distance of 50' so far, but works flawlessly. The big advantage compared to the Sony unit, is this has a 360* transmitter so you dot have to be head on with camera.
I definitely reccomend this product.

Bought this to set up the camera on a nest site and fire the camera remotely. Works well for this use. My only complaint is that the switch on the transmitter is turned around. The single shot position is the continuous and vice versa.
