The Ewa-Marine U-AXP Housing is an economical solution for using any autofocus SLR camera with shoe-mounted flash near or just under the water's surface, manufactured from double laminated PVC and with an optical glass port.  It is rated for dives of up to 164 feet (50 m) depth; perfect for snorkeling, diving, or generally sandy, dusty, and humidity weather conditions.  The U-AXP gives your camera and flash the best possible protection while being fully operable.  When not in use, it is relatively light and takes up little space.

A pair of non-corrosive and seawater resistant clamping rails fit together for sealing, tightened by knurled screw knobs.  The housing's internal glove allows easy access to camera controls.  If your setup is too buoyant underwater, the optional BF1 lead weight can be affixed to the bottom of the housing.

The U-AXP housing accommodates an autofocus SLR camera with shoe-mounted flash, with the maximum dimensions for the whole kit being 7.5 x 10.75 x 6.6" (190 x 275 x 170mm) WxHxD with lens and a 72mm maximum lens filter thread. Adapters for 52, 55, 58 and 62mm filter threads are included.  Amongst others, this housing fits the Canon EOS-1 and EOS-3 and Nikon F4/F5 film cameras, and the Canon EOS 1D/1Ds/10D + BG-ED3, Fujifilm S2 Pro, Kodak DCS 14N, and Nikon D1h/D1x/D2h and D100 with MB-D100.

Comments about Ewa-Marine U-AXP Underwater Housing:

I used this case on vacation - for snorkeling and diving.
          pro:
          - it really alows you to put your camera undewater (up to 22 m in my case) and keep it dry.
          cons:
          - absolutely imposible to manipulate with camera/lens settings right after case closing.
          - extremely hard to focus on objects. You can just gess where the object is and thrust that autofocus will do their work: put viewfinder on 5cm away from face, place 2 piece of partly trasparent plastic between and try to catch a picture.
          - additional difficulties with buoyancy control. case is soft and thus reacts on depth - forget about air adjustment through the rear nippel!!!
          - with zoom lens there is another trick: enclosed armatura is suitable not for all lenses and w/o it water will press lens to it shortest phisical size. for most lenses (canon) this means widest focusing angle and as a result - minimal object size on snapshot. Be ready to crop your picture significantly.
          - strong additional vignetting because of thickness of front port.
          - zoom does not work with this case - it's absolutely imposible to operate with it.
Result: your SLR camera with flash become just as poin&shoot fully automatic device in many cases able to work on widest angle and with strong vignetting. Better than nothing.
How to use: activate IS, set up fully automatic programm, serial shooting mode, continious focus mode and ISO as high as you can and hope you'll be lucky enough to get 3-5 shots on every 20.

Comments about Ewa-Marine U-AXP Underwater Housing:

Good product. Only issue so far is that the information describing the product on the web does not indicate that you need a special adapter to use it with a lens that rotates to focus. Had to use the gift card to buy this.

Do not buy this junk. I took it snorkeling and got a couple of pictures. When I took it driving only 25 feet could not get my camera to take pictures. So I continued to dive to 45 feet and the u-axp underwater housing started to leak and damaged my camera. The camera is a total loss. Do not buy unless you want to make $1000 mistake.

Comments about Ewa-Marine U-AXP Underwater Housing:

I can only assume that the somewhat negative reviews here come from those with unrealistic expectations. This is a soft plastic case that isn't as easy to use as a hard case when it comes to changing settings. But when you're actually in the water, trying to stay afloat or trying to stay in position, you don't really have time to be fiddling with camera settings. To be really successful with this, you need to set everything *before* you go into the water. Use the wide-area center autofocus, lock the back navigation button, lock the side button if you're using a battery pack, and I use manual settings for shooting at and above the water's surface. Using a speedlight gives you better pictures than without in bright sunlight. You can't see the LCD in the sun anyway, so you can't really tell what your pictures look like until you get them onto your computer. That said, I could hit all the buttons on the back of the camera just fine and I could even use the finger sleeve to turn the dials (front and back), though that's a little cumbersome.

Comments about Ewa-Marine U-AXP Underwater Housing:

I was scuba diving at about 25 or 30 feet and the housing flooded. I lost about [$] worth of gear. I think the purge valve on the rear top of the bag became dislodged somehow and allowed water in. This should not be able to happen under any circumstances. I checked the bag before entering the water and I could find no leaks. I am a professional photographer and a competent person, so if this is user error, it is just a testament to how poorly designed and crafted this glorified ziplock bag is. In my opinion this item should not be sold. Trust me, if you value your equipment you will pony up the money to buy a housing you can trust.

Comments about Ewa-Marine U-AXP Underwater Housing:

I used this for a shoot in a pool and for a quick selfportrait of me face down in a hot tub with the camera lensfacing up toward me. It definitely keeps the water outhowever it is extremely difficult to use and if there is anyway to maneuver it I do not know it. I do recommend it forbasic underwater shots since it does the job, but if youneed something you can seriously work with on the fly, thisis not the product for you.

                    Expertise: Semi-Professional

Problems Encountered: You can not use any of the functions of the camera once youput the camera in the bag and seal it other than point andshoot. There is no real way to focus the camera or to evenchange the controls at all. It really just makes your SLRinto a point and shoot.

I used this product during a kayak trip in Alaska. It provides good protection for the camera but very very poor possibility of handling the camera and using its features. Even zooming is almost impossible. Using ring adapter (which was not available when I purchased the product) is essential.
