The OWC / Other World Computing 480GB Mercury Electra 6G Solid State Drive is a 2.5" Serial-ATA 9.5mm that is equipped with a SandForce 2281 Processor and DuraClass technology, and offers sustained reads up to 556 MB/s and writes up to 523 MB/s.
In addition to RAISE (Redundant Array of Independent Silicon Elements) technology, the Solid State Drive comes with ECC protection that protects the data on your hard drive and retains it for a long time on the hard drive. The Mercury Electra Solid State Drive features intelligent block management, while the wear leveling system evenly distributes the data over the hard drive. An intelligent read disturb management spreads active read/write, eliminating data corruption.
Advanced intelligent recycling ensures space management by re-writing the data over the SSD, and Durawrite extends the quality of the hard drive. Compatible with Mac and Windows, the Mercury Solid State Drive has no moving parts and a highly rugged storage solution offers faster system response. It supports 480 GB useable capacity with a total flash memory of 512GB, additionally 32 GB space is allocated for real time data redundancy and error correction.

Comments about OWC / Other World Computing 480GB Mercury Electra 6G Solid State Drive:
The boot up procedure on my new MacBook Pro 13 that took many minutes has been reduced to less than 30 seconds.
The computer runs cooler and more quietly. The battery lasts longer.
The load times for applications is dramatically decreased, and those apps which swap data into and out of virtual memory run faster.
Installation was a snap with easy-to-follow instructions from iFixit.
I can think of no negative other than the fact that it is somewhat costly.
