The 500GB HDD ND2730G Nexto Photo Storage Portable Backup Drive from Nexto DI is a handheld photo backup device for your digital camera photo files. Its built-in battery lets you backup your photos anywhere-without the use of a laptop. The Nexto ND 2730 will enable you to quickly offload your memory cards-safeguarding your photos and letting you continue shooting. The ND 2730's 2 built-in slots are compatible with CF, SD, SDHC and SDXC memory cards. The device supports high data transfer speeds: Most 32GB CF cards can be copied in less than 8.0 minutes, while 32GB SD / SDHC / SDXC memory cards can be copied in about 38 minutes.
You can also preview photo clips as either thumbnails or single photos with the built-in 1.44" color LCD screen. The LCD also enables you to confirm the download of your photos. You can even perform a bit-by-bit verification ("Copy & Verify"), in which all of the data on the memory card is compared to the data on the ND 2730 internal hard drive.
The ND2730G comes with a 500GB 2.5" SATA 7200 rpm HDD installed. With its internal battery, the ND2730 has the following power options: AC power adapter, a FireWire 800 (IEEE1394b) cable and a USB cable (all included). A car charger and an external rechargeable battery are available as optional accessories - making it even easier to backup your shots in remote locations.

I am a professional wedding photographer and need to know my equipment works. The NEXTO DI2730 started having functional issues straight off the bat. After updating firmware, it was ok for a while but now after 9 months, it won't turn on at all. Even with the Battery fully charged. Had to rush out last minute to buy a different brand right before a wedding. Do not waste your money on this.

Purchased to replace my Epson p5000 which only has 80 gb storage. Likes: fast transfer rate, easy to use, compact. Dislikes: small screen is almost unusable for reviewing images and displays in black and white. Toggle button often has to be pushed twice to respond. Unit has locked up twice when transferring files requiring a reset (no files lost).

I bought this to serve as a poor man's data ingester on a recent 5 day GH2 video shoot in france.
I was hesitant to purchase it because of the price, but I'm glad I did. Digital media is always scary before a delete, but the Copy and Verify feature really put my mind at ease.
Workflow was:
Shoot until card full.
Lock card, turn on Nexto and insert
Select copy and verify
Put nexto in safe place and get back to work.
Upon return remove card and unlock.
Nexto has a great feature that it powers down when it is done copying, but the next time you turn it on it shows you a big screen that says "Previous copy succeeded."
Although the sd card copy was slow, the "set it and forget it" approach meant I never had to wait.
I really think the extra money was worth it.

We bought this a 6 months ago the first unit did not work when we got it. The company said it was a battery problem and B&H replaced it. The new one worked for a 4 months and stopped working. The company that makes them says that they do not warrantee them. Do not buy this product it is junk. Works well when it works but is not reliable.

I'm a professional photographer and wanted to have a safety solution for my weddings and other shoots. It is every photographer's nightmare to have a card go corrupt (beyond recovery) or go missing/stolen.
With this device, I can quickly (this is an important feature to consider) transfer my cards to the HD and then continue on with my work.
Yes, you will surely find cheaper models out there, but when it comes to my photos, reliability counts a lot. As well, the speed of transfer is an important factor. If you need to empty out a card to take more photos, the last thing you want is to wait a half an hour before being able to go back to shooting.
Overall, I would definitely recommend it.
