The LH-40 Lens Hood for Olympus M.Zuiko 14-42mm Lens from Olympus is designed for use with the Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 II or the Olympus M.Zuiko Digital 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 II R lens. Lens hoods are primarily designed to prevent unwanted stray light from entering the lens by extending and shading the end of the lens. In addition, since the end of the lens is extended, you also get the added benefit of some extra protection from accidental impact.

Comments about LH-40 Lens Hood for Olympus M.Zuiko 14-42mm Lens:
I use my Olympus m4/3 kit primarily as an Infrared camera with the 14-42 II which doesn't have a bad hot spot problem like the 12-50
With IR filters, flare is often a problem so I needed a hood to help with my situation.
The hood does a satisfactory job, but its quite shallow especially since it attaches quite deep into the len's main body. Thus, flare is still a problem if you have a regular thickness filter on
The finish is of a matte black variety that has so far been quite resistant to peeling.
It's easy to attach in either hooded or retracted position and doesn't make increase the size profile of the kit lens
It is quite expensive but there are other 3rd party alternative but I've seen a few and those seem to not work as well with filters and some do have matte coatings that peel off easily

Comments about LH-40 Lens Hood for Olympus M.Zuiko 14-42mm Lens:
It works as described, it's a lens shade after all, and it looks good on the 14-42 mm lens. To store it it can be reverse mounted, very convenient. Too bad it is not included with the lens in the first place.

Comments about LH-40 Lens Hood for Olympus M.Zuiko 14-42mm Lens:
Look gang - I don't know what else to say other than this is a simple (plastic) hood that does what it's supposed to do. Albeit, I must admit that Olympus charges way too much for this light, plastic hood. Maybe for less $ would be more like it, but hey...I don't make those pricing decisions. At least B&H has the best price around on this item. So if you want a hood for the Oly 14-42 II kit lens, this is the baby you will need to get.

Comments about LH-40 Lens Hood for Olympus M.Zuiko 14-42mm Lens:
This is the sorely needed hood for the kit lens that comes with Pen cameras (note:not the early model).Except that it should have come with the lens,it fits well, and doesn't extend further from the camera as the threaded ones do.Too expensive, but all the hoods from Olympus are.

Comments about LH-40 Lens Hood for Olympus M.Zuiko 14-42mm Lens:
This is a great little lens hood for a great little lens. The Olympus 14-42 lens is a nice compact lens. I have it on my new e-m5. Keeps everything small.

Comments about LH-40 Lens Hood for Olympus M.Zuiko 14-42mm Lens:
The bad: it is a bit pricy for just a piece of plastic. The good: it is very easy and fast to connect and disconnect the hood, which in my case happens quite a lot because I use the wide angle converter. It looks good, is genuine Olympus and I haven't noticed any negative effects on pictures shot in wide angle. I would recommend the hood.
