        Comments about Leica 21mm Super-Elmar-M f/ 3.4 ASPH Lens:

I cannot add anything to the comments of other reviewers except to say that this little lens is simply stunning in every way: Build quality, precision focusing, performance and especially in image quality. With a maximum aperture of f/3.4, it is a medium speed lens by Leica standards but with the high ISO capabilities and image quality of the M240, M-P and M Monochrom, the "slow" maximum aperture of f/3.4 is pretty much a non-issue.

The 21/3.4 ASPH is small, light and produces outstanding image quality. You can't go wrong with this little masterpiece of a lens!

          Comments about Leica 21mm Super-Elmar-M f/ 3.4 ASPH Lens:

This is an outstanding combination of small size and optical excellence. I routinely shoot it wide open without reservation, especially for interior shots. Great for street shooting, if you can get close to your subject.

          A revelation for me

          By Dan

          Comments about Leica 21mm Super-Elmar-M f/ 3.4 ASPH Lens:

There is a lot of talk on the web about Leica lenses and their image quality. Now I'm not able to measure MFTs, chromatic aberration, coma, distortion, etc... so I can't say that all the web talk has not swayed my opinion, but this lens is awesome! I've been shooting a Canon EOS REBEL XT for many years and I have to say that the image quality is slightly better than a P&S and it focuses faster, but recently I wanted to get better image quality in a smaller camera since the mirror less craze has hit its stride. I also wanted to be able to use all my Canon DSLR lenses that i'm familiar with so I bought the Canon EOS M and the adaptor. Believe it or not, I have both the current Canon M lenses, and they seem to be better than any of the old DSLR ones--sharper/clearer files. I really caught the photography bug again from it! Anyway, I've done a lot of research now and I decided I'm going to try one of these Leica lenses--just to try something crazy. So I got this one b/c it should be easy to zone focus and it should be small enough to not get in the way. I was Leary that this wide angle may make for soft/distracting corners, but I have laid that worry aside. This lens has amazing contrast and resolution! The sun stars are beautiful as well. I thought the little Canon22mm was great(it actually is if you throw price into the equation). The manual focusing methods with this camera are not the greatest--you have to use the touch screen to zoom in far enough to see if you are perfect focus and it takes a second. None the less, I have no regrets getting this except that it's made me want to get a better camera like the new Sony(but it has trouble with wide Leica lenses), the new Fuji, or possibly even the Leica M. Pixel peeping with this lens is a treat and the few prints I've made from it are the best I've made. It's addictive. I've gone from taking photos at places and events I go, to going to places and events just for good photo opportunities.

            Comments about Leica 21mm Super-Elmar-M f/ 3.4 ASPH Lens:

I used this lens this past week at the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. For landscape and scenery work, this lens is superb and did not exhibit any of the wide angle distortion that I noted in my earlier review. In short, for this kind of photography, I couldn't say enough positive kudos for this lens. It's a terrific choice.

            Comments about Leica 21mm Super-Elmar-M f/ 3.4 ASPH Lens:

Normally I rate Leica glass 5-stars. However, I rate this lens 4-stars because there is a bit more wide-angle distortion than the various reviews I read indicated before purchasing this lens.

Otherwise, this lens is "tack sharp" and the sharpness of images is on par with my Leica 28 Summicron.

This lens is very lightweight, accurate focusing and stopped down to f8 everything in the field of view is perfectly in focus. Shooting out doors in nice sunlight you'll be able to capture large buildings or other large objects without having to resort to stitching shots together later on in post-processing.

Due to the light weight of this lens, shooting wide open in dark interiors you will be able to hand hold shots as slow as 1/4 second and still get well focused and blur-free shots. Of course it would be nice to have f2 in dark interiors but that's what the 28 Summicron is for. Best to use a tripod in these situation.

Other than the mentioned distortion, this is an excellent lens.

              Comments about Leica 21mm Super-Elmar-M f/ 3.4 ASPH Lens:

This is an amazingly crisp lens, with minimal distortion and still extremely compact. I would certainly not call it inexpensive, but I am still surprised that Leica did not price it for an extra as most folks would have still purchased it.

                Comments about Leica 21mm Super-Elmar-M f/ 3.4 ASPH Lens:

Simply put, this might be the best super-wide lens in 35mm format. Very low distortion, flare free, and extremely sharp. In fact, this is perhaps the highest resolving Leica lens I have ever used. Very well made, smooth and well dampened focus. Screw on hood is much better than the older style clip-on hoods. It's expensive for a "slower" lens, but there is no need to stop down for sharpness; it's as good as it gets at F/3.4. Beautiful lens with a lot of character as well. I am very fortunate to own this masterpiece. I purchased it from B&H. No doubt it will become a legend in the Leica world. Thanks B&H......

                  Comments about Leica 21mm Super-Elmar-M f/ 3.4 ASPH Lens:

I've used a lot of 35mm lenses to include Leica and Nikon. This is perhaps the sharpest lens I have ever seen or used. Not that being sharp is the most important factor, but trust me on this one. Amazing flare control, and the most controlled distortion I've seen in a 21mm lens in 35mm format. Its amazing how very little distortion this lens has for a super wide angle. Contrast is spectacular. Its brilliant at shooting into the sun for nice sunstar effects (18 pointed sunstar) which is what I want in a super wide. Build quality is superb and the new screw on hood is much better than the older style clip in hoods. Ergonomics are perfect i.e., size, aperture placement, tabbed focus ring. Simply one of Leica's best lenses in my opinion and one that will easily become a legend.
