Product Highlights
  • 3TB for Time Machine Backup
  • 802.11a/b/g/n Wireless Router
  • Gigabit Ethernet
  • USB Printer and Hard Drive Sharing
  • Simultaneous Dual-Band Operation

The Time Capsule from Apple is an Internet router with a built-in hard drive, designed for use with OS X Leopard's Time Machine backup software. It can backup your Mac over Wi-Fi, ensuring that your data is always protected. It even features a USB port for printer and hard disk sharing.

The router allows you to share your Internet connection between several computers via the draft 802.11n wireless protocol. It also features three standard 10/100/1000Mbps RJ-45 Gigabit Ethernet ports. The router is fully backwards compatible with legacy 802.11a/b/g devices.

The Time Capsule features a firewall to protect you from malicious software that can attack your computer from the Internet, as well as wireless security to insure that your data remains private. It can serve as an Internet router for both Macs and PCs.

Backup

Backing up is something we all know we should do, but often don't. And while disaster is a great motivator, now it doesn't have to be. Because with Time Capsule, the nagging need to back up has been replaced by automatic, constant protection. And even better, it all happens wirelessly, saving everything important, including your sanity
Time Capsule includes a wireless 3TB hard drive designed to work with Time Machine in Mac OS X Leopard and Snow Leopard. Just set Time Capsule as the designated backup drive for Time Machine, and that's it. Depending on how much data you have, your initial backup with Time Capsule could take overnight or longer. After it completes, only changed files are backed up -- automatically, wirelessly, and in the background. So you never have to worry about backing up again
Have multiple Mac computers in your house? Time Capsule can back up and store files for each Leopard- and Snow Leopard-based Mac on your wireless network. No longer do you have to attach an external drive to each Mac every time you want to back up. Time Capsule spares you the work
Time Capsule is your one place for backing up everything. Its massive 3TB server-grade hard drive gives you all the capacity and safety you need. So whether you have 250 songs or 250,000 songs to back up, room is the last thing you'll run out of

Wireless

More than just a wireless hard drive, Time Capsule is also a full-featured AirPort Extreme Base Station with 802.11n technology. Experience a high-speed wireless network and a breakthrough way to back up all the Mac computers on your network. All in one device
You can rest assured that Time Capsule works with other certified 802.11n devices. And it's compatible with Mac computers and PCs that use 802.11a, b, or g technologies, as well as wireless devices such as iPhone, iPod touch, and Apple TV
Some Wi-Fi devices use the 2.4GHz wireless band, including iPhone, iPod touch, and devices using 802.11b/g. Others can use either 2.4GHz or the higher-speed 5GHz band, such as the latest 802.11n-based Mac computers and Apple TV. Instead of choosing one of the bands, Time Capsule operates simultaneously on both bands, and your multiband devices automatically use the best available band
It's easy to allow guests to use your Internet connection without sharing your password or giving them access to the rest of your network. Simply enable the guest networking feature using the AirPort Utility application and create a separate Wi-Fi network just for your friends. You can set up this guest network with a different password or with none at all. Your primary network -- including your printer, attached drives, or other devices -- remains secure
Say you're traveling and you need a file on your Time Capsule back at home. If you're a MobileMe member using a Mac with Mac OS X Leopard or Snow Leopard, no problem. You can access all the files on your Time Capsule drive over the Internet. Simply register your Time Capsule with your MobileMe account, and its drive appears in the Finder sidebar of your Mac just like any other attached drive. It's like having your own personal file server wherever you go
The included USB port is great for sharing a printer throughout your wireless network. Time Capsule and the Bonjour networking technology let everyone in the house or office -- Mac and PC users alike -- take advantage of one centrally located printer. And if you want to share both a printer and an additional hard drive, you can. Just connect a USB hub to Time Capsule. Whatever the combination, Time Capsule divides and conquers
Time Capsule with Time Machine in Leopard or Snow Leopard is the ideal backup solution. But that doesn't mean Mac OS X Tiger, Windows XP, and Windows Vista users can't enjoy the benefits of Time Capsule, too. Because Time Capsule mounts as a wireless hard drive, Tiger and Windows users simply access Time Capsule directly from the wireless network for exchanging and storing files quickly and easily

Comments about Apple Time Capsule (3TB):

I shopped around for the 3tb version of Apple's time capsule and found the best price from a reputable establishment. I have purchased from B&H before so I knew I was dealing with the real deal. You need to be careful where you buy on the Internet and B&H never disappoints. My item arrived double boxed in perfect condition within 2 days. Like all Apple products it was easy to setup. Within 5 minutes I had it connected to my network backing up my computer. It just works plain, simple and elegant.

Comments about Apple Time Capsule (3TB):

I set it up as my main router and Time Capsule for my Macs at home. It replaced an AirPort Extreme and that process alone was impressive!  has an impressive migration/upgrade assistant for AirPort upgrades where it moves over all settings from your old Extreme to the new one. I have complex settings (timed restricted access, static IP, and mapped ports) and it copied all automatically. The new Time Capsule was a mirror image config wise of my old Extreme and it took less than 2 minutes to get setup. All of the devices I would have had to setup and the ports mapped would have taken at least 20minutes to do manually. I have more than 20 network devices connecting to it. I was amazed at how easy it was. I almost felt robbed of opportunity to play with it!

In terms of back ups, it's super fast especially over gigabit Ethernet (wired directly). For first back up its recommended for fastest performance. After that incremental backups are shorter.

This is a full-featured router than can even be managed from an iPhone or iPad. The range and options for channels and frequencies are great. Ditto for setting up a guest network. Great for backing up multiple home computers on the same network vs a dedicated drive at each machine, especially for a laptop it will back up over wifi. Pretty much what one would expect from an Apple product.

I'm using the time capsule to back up our school's computer systems. 6 computers in total. So far it's done pretty well. Some computers need to be re-added to the list for some reason. I may need to contact Apple to get it all running smoothly for the long run.

Easy to attach a second USB hard drive for common disk space. Also attached a printer via ethernet for a wireless printing hub.

                        Very useful!

Comments about Apple Time Capsule (3TB):

I have a Windows XP desktop, a VISTA Laptop and a 17" Macbook Pro. I was hoping to use this a backup device for all my computers . Setting up with Macbook Pro was a breeze. With XP, when I installed the Airport Utility, setup was easy. Vista was however a little more time consuming. I couldn't get the system to recognize the disk. After googling other user experiences, finally set it up. The main problem was that I wanted to set this up wirelessly connecting to my DSL modem which is also a wireless router. After hardwiring it to the modem and setting time capsule in bridge mode, it worked. There are other users who were able to get the wireless setup going.

Comments about Apple Time Capsule (3TB):

The 3 TB Time Capsule is the ultimate safety net. It is easy to set up and serves as a base station for an extended WiFi network, allowing simultaneous dual frequency access and Time Machine back ups. I use one at home as an extender as well as back-up for my wife's MB Pro, and one at the office as a storage device and WiFi network base station. Set up including passwords and integration with the existing network took less than 10 minutes.

Comments about Apple Time Capsule (3TB):

Easy to set up. I had it installed and ready to back up my three computers in minutes. The only problem is that the initial back up on each computer takes several hours to complete. If you are backing up multiple computers you have to plan the process out. I did my main Mac Pro the first night and then my two iMacs the next day. If you use your time capsule to creat a new network, you will have to install any wireless printers on the new network. Once everything is up and running, will not notice any difference in you computer while the back-ups are running.
