The Sigma 105mm f/2.8 EX DG HSM Macro Lens for Canon EOS Cameras delivers superb, distortion-free images throughout its broad focus range, from infinity telephoto to life-size (1:1) macro, as close as 12.2" (31 cm) without accessories. A Special Low Dispersion (SLD) lens and one high refractive index SLD lens provide excellent correction for all types of aberration and distortion. Its non-rotating front lens group makes it easier to work with polarizing filters. A focus limiter helps divide the broad focus range into more manageable chunks.
The "focus-free" mechanical design allows the lens to autofocus without any interference from the manual focus ring, making it easy to hold the lens without affecting the speed or normal operation of the autofocus function. Rugged mechanical construction also makes it durable enough for even the heaviest use required by professional photographers. An ideal lens for a wide variety of applications from nature photography to portraiture.
The improved DG lens design for this lens corrects for various aberrations. This macro lens is specially coated to get the best color balance while cutting down on ghosting caused by reflections from the digital image sensor. The lens provides the utmost correction against lateral chromatic aberration which is a serious problem for digital SLR cameras. Sigma's own proprietary OS (Optical Stabilizer) system enables handheld close-up photography.

Comments about Sigma 105mm f/2.8 EX DG OS HSM Macro Lens for Canon EOS Cameras:
Purchased this lens recently and haven't used it a lot but it does produce excellent images. It is a difficult lens to learn to use, what with the split focus and I'm still working on that. However, as I said, the images are superior. In my case the Optical Stabilizer is of little use, I found that I must use my tripod. The lens is heavy, so you need a VERY GOOD tripod. Bottom line: if you are looking for super images, use this lens properly and you will be rewarded.

Comments about Sigma 105mm f/2.8 EX DG OS HSM Macro Lens for Canon EOS Cameras:
Its a little heavy, just it produces. The OS is great, and it can focus on an item within two inches of the end of the lens. Its taken some great photos on my Canon 5D Mark III!

Comments about Sigma 105mm f/2.8 EX DG OS HSM Macro Lens for Canon EOS Cameras:
I got this lens to add a macro lens to my collection (for detail shots at weddings, etc) and also for farther away portraits. I love the bokah, and I am extremely pleased with both the macro and portrait images I have captured with it (using it on my Canon 40d). It's a little slow to focus in low light, but that doesn't bother me.

Comments about Sigma 105mm f/2.8 EX DG OS HSM Macro Lens for Canon EOS Cameras:
I bought this lens as my first macro lens for my 5D Mark II. Previously I had a Canon 60mm USM EF-S. I find this much sharper. It makes some odd noises that take some getting used to. Otherwise, it is a great lens! Highly recommended from this macro lover to another!

Comments about Sigma 105mm f/2.8 EX DG OS HSM Macro Lens for Canon EOS Cameras:
I use the Sigma lens for macro photography and as a prime lens, where the f/2.8 aperture gives me a nice bokeh to isolate the main subject. The images are sharp and I see little to no distortion.
The only negative is that the lens is heavy, as might be expected for a 105mm /2.8 OS lens.

Comments about Sigma 105mm f/2.8 EX DG OS HSM Macro Lens for Canon EOS Cameras:
Outstanding sharpness and great all around performance using this lens with my Canon 40D. More versatile than I expected - good macro capabilities as well as a good portrait lens. My experience is shooting in manual mode gets the best exposure and therefore best sharpness. Speed of focus is not an issue and the optical stabilization is a nice feature.
