Built to withstand just about anything, the Griffin Technology Survivor Extreme-Duty Case for iPhone 4 & 4S (Black) is constructed of shatter-resistant polycarbonate and rugged, shock absorbing silicone. The rigid internal frame is actually tested to protect your iPhone from a six-foot fall onto a flat, solid-concrete surface. Wrapped around the frame is the shock absorbing silicone exterior shell, which is tested and certified to block vibrations. The Survivor Case features a wind, dust and rain shield/screen protector that has also been tested and certified to deflect fast blowing wind and hard rain for up to an hour.
The final protection measure, which seals off the dock connector, headphone jack, hold switch and volume controls from blowing sand and dust, are the multiple tested and certified hinged plugs that fully protect the iPhone's terminals and controls from foreign contaminants. Even the US and UK Defense Departments have certified the Survivor Extra-Duty Case to military tests and standards.
Please note! This case has been updated to accommodate previous issues with the camera flap. It includes a tab over the camera that does not have to be held out of the way in order to capture photos.

Truly Survivor Extreme. Sometimes I use my phone rough. But this case is a sigh of relief for me.
1. It is TWO layered (Inner plastic case and outer silicon rubber cover)
2. Plastic case fits the phone precisely without much efforts. Phone will just sit and fit in the case and will not move at all.
3. Outer silicon rubber grip lowers the shock strength if bumped on hard surfaces + protects the plastic case inside and so the phone.
4. Plastic case comes with a transperent screen to cover the phone screen. Thus phone screen is also protected and not only the phone body UNLIKE other products.
5. I was skeptical about having the plastic screen, that it may reduce original touch screen, touch quality and view; but hold on....The works touch as clear and as good as it works on bare phone screen. Also the display quality is not affected.
6. Speakers, mic, silent/ringing switch, headphone jack port, camera and USB charging port are covered by the silicon rubber protecting the phone from dust, moisture but also preserves the voice quality for speakers as well as mic.
7. The grip design is so perfect and granular that sound +/-, power/lock and the exit button on phone can be operated without extra efforts/force. You can definitely save, most easily damaging exit button because of the rubber grip.
8. Case has proper shape cut to operate front camera also, so even after covering your phone with so much protection; YOU CAN OPERATE EACH AND EVERY FUNCTIONALITY OF THE PHONE WITHOUT ADJUSTING/ALTERING THE CASE AT ANYTIME, JUST LIKE YOU USE BARE PHONE WITHOUT CASE.
9. Case also has a rotating "C" shaped clip which can be clipped. The phone can be fixed in C shape either ways, from front side or back side.
GREAT PRODUCT, VERY THOUGHTFUL AND INTELLIGENT DESIGN, LIVES UP TO THE DESCRIPTION AND NAME; TRULY "SURVIVOR EXTREME"

I like it (but I personally have nothing to compare to). It definitely adds bulkiness to the IPhone, if you prefer the thin slick looking original, forget it. I got this case after watching the manufacturer's test videos and I'm paranoid about it falling out of my pocket every time I get into my truck and sit down or other careless things I do. I broke my last phone by leaning up against my boat with my phone in my pocket; the phone bent and the screen cracked, so I was looking for something to prevent that from occurring again. I believe this case will prevent occurrences such as that. The touch screen and buttons work exactly the same. I hold the phone while jogging; the case prevents any sweet from getting into the phone. It comes with a clip, but I prefer to hold phones while jogging so I can skip songs and arm straps drive me crazy.Cons I don't like:You have to physical move the flap covering the outer HD camera and hold it while taking a picture/video. And it is extremely difficult to get open, especially if you have short finger nails. After 2 weeks, l got irritated, and ripped it off. The makers could have easily added a piece of plastic to cover that camera, just like the front camera or make the flap work like the other outlets. The camera is still basically protected by the outer rubber shell; just crud will now build up around the lens. The other buttons and jacks are easily accessible, just the camera one is a pain. There's protruding plastic around the charger outlet and 3.5 mm headphone jack, so the rubber flaps may securely fasten to the case. The protruding plastic makes it difficult to insert my stereo cable into the jack. My stereo cord has a thicker outer rubber covering; headphones typically do not have that thickness. I cut some of the rubber off the stereo cord to accommodate. I debated about using a hacksaw on the case to remove that little protruding piece of plastic. The same protruding plastic issue for the charger outlet. If want to use a Idock device, the protruding plastic prevents the Iphone from setting on these docks (or that's what I could tell from trying it at [@] with non-running Idock display models). You would have to take the cover off (a pain every time) or I thought about taking a small saw and cutting the protruding plastic off the case. The rubber flap may not be as secure as designed, but I don't see me leaving outside in the elements for extended periods of time; hence the protection would still be adequate. One still would have to make sure the idock device has an opening large enough to accommodate the extra bulkiness of the case and the thickness of the bottom will allow the phone to be sit down far enough on the Idock jack.Overall, I'm happy with it and will continue to use it. I will not go back to the basic rubber outer cover I had for 3 days. Again, it takes the slick trim look away, has a few issues, but I don't even worry about me or my kids dropping it and the phone not working.

Much better "tough" case than the Otterbox Defender series. Much thicker, but softer, rubber compound for the sleeve. Will definitely soak up impacts and sever drops much better than it's competitors. Minor annoyance with the raised "Home" button activating voice control on the phone when it's in my pocket. AAA+

This case definitely provides some of the best protection for the iPhone 4S available, rubberized you can drop it, it bounces, it's totally protected from water it's really great in that respect. However some of the flaps are hard to open, such as the one over the camera and the dock connector. So outside of that it's fantastic.

Yes, it adds a bit of bulk to the phone, but I knew that going in. Offers solid protection from bumps, jolts, rain, dust, and my klutzyness. Will not slide around on the dashboard of your car. Should survive a coffee spill or getting caught in a storm. I have no issues about carrying the phone in the back pocket of my sweaty bike jersey or motorcycle jacket in the rain. If you use your phone a lot as a camera there is a protective flap that has to be moved to expose the lens. Not a big problem if you are an occasional picture taker, but it will slow you down on the spontanious stuff. Overall, I am very happy with teh product and the price.

I thought when i purchased this case that it will comfortable to use with my day job. I was mistaken the clip is very fragile the case dosen't allow u to be heard through the mic. The camera cover is very hard to open and then u miss the good moments. Its heavy too. A very uncomfortable fact is that when on the clip the screen must face out or the voice control will be enabled. The price is cheap but don't expect top quality and efficiancy like the Lifeproof case.

I have a rugged job. I am a recruiter by day and a freelance cameraman. So in the office my phone needs to be durable so I can talk calls and not worry about dropping it or throwing across the room. (only at times :-)
While I'm running around the city I don't want to be thinking about my phone non-stop. The belt clip isn't military grade like the case so its completely useless. I tried to squeeze into a tight spot and PLUNK. Phone falls off my belt; then I got into the car just to sit down and PLUNK. Phone falls off my belt breaking the clip and rendering it useless.
So one day of normal use and the belt clip is done. Now I am up in the air with just selling it to someone for cheap since I really like having a belt clip. I just need something rugged in both areas.
Also, be careful with headphone plugs. Not many fit. If you own a bulky headphone jack it WILL NOT FIT.
Rating for case itself is if you don't mind having a bulky beast of a case. This is your guy!

I bought one a year ago that was what I considered BULLET PROOF. When I went back to Wally World to get another one, I noticed that the screen protection piece of plastic, had been decreased from a hard, non movable piece of lexan, to a soft, scratchable, moveable, able to allow a pointed objects to penitrate through to the screen. When I contacted the company, they said it was to get more response out of the touch screen. I was not unhappy with the responsiveness of my old, stronger screen protector. Now I get all kinds of scratches in the SOFT screen protecter and when I replace this one, I AM NOT GOING TO REPLACE IT WITH ANOTHER GRIFFIN PRODUCT! I will look for a different company. My first one was 10 months old and had less scratches than the new one that is 3 weeks old. NOT A GOOD IMPROVEMENT!!!! The clip is still a very weak quality and will fail soon. I will be looking at Otter Box next. This is my last Griffin.
