I now have an arsenal of various retail 3D camcorders along with some home-made two-camera stereoscopic mounts, which includes the DXG 5F9VK.
All my retail cameras are in the "very affordable range" and I'd say this model is my favorite by far.

The most surprising things about this unit are the 720p 60fps mode, the convergence adjustments and the night mode features, including a little light. It offers more control over equivalent models or previous-generation models by other manufacturers in similar price ranges.

The most important strong point is the image quality, which many low-end 3D camcorders completely fail at. In fact despite a digital-only zoom, the image does not get too distorted if you try to close in on something - just if you're using 3D go easy and don't pass halfway if you want to preserve image quality.

Its downsides are somewhat typical for low cost cameras. The joystick and buttons are a little "off" in terms of sensitivity and don't always react when pressed too softly. The flip screen does get in the way of the rotating lenses; just make sure you position the screen before you rotate the lens into filming position. An issue with the image seems to come up when there is too much sky in your shot. The white balance seems to favor one side over another, not getting the images quite evenly. It's nothing major but it can mess up the depth illusion on clouds and blue sky a bit.

Bottom line I am very surprised. I got more image quality and 3D depth quality than I thought possible for this price. The 3D feels natural and real - 3D is not an "effect" - effects can be ADDED to a depth field, but 3D is an illusion just as much as the illusion of true color your monitor produces, and this camera is a good example of proper, realistic 3D depth illusion.

In my world, 2D's become just as good as black & white.

Zoom is useless. Still camera is mediocre at best. You will get better pictures by snatching photos from the video. But for the price, you do get a pretty good 3D camcorder and it is truly HD (as long as you do not need to zoom in from over 20ft).

    Comments about DXG-5F9VK HD 1080p 3D Camcorder:

I love the easyness of using this camera and although I have a Mac, I was still able to make it work for me... The only thing I don't really like is the sound. the mic isnot good enough to pick up conversations and it does not come with an input for an external one. and there is no image stabilization... it is ok with video but if you try to take a picture... unless you have a tripod you can't. Zoom is digital. For Starters, this would be a great camera. specially for the price.

          Comments about DXG-5F9VK HD 1080p 3D Camcorder:

You are not going to be shooting the next Avatar in 3D on this camera, but if you want to play around with 3D video without spending a fortune it works well. This was my intended use. Some of positives include:- inter-lens (stereo base) distance is around 45 mm, which is larger than many more expensive cameras (see Wikipedia), this helps with the 3D effect, and applying a common 1/30 rule in 3D photography, this is good for subjects at least 30x45mm away=about 5 feet or more, for far away scenery you would want the stereo base much larger, something that get's into the many kilobucks range just for the optics- compressed video stream is about 10 Mbps in 1920/1080p@29.970fps, AVC main@4.0 profile, 4:2:0 chroma subsampling- the 3D monitor actually kind of works if you focus your eyes right, pretty impressive. Some of the limitations include:- no image stabilization, although you may be able to use software based stabilization while editing if you don't mind some cropping (the Adobe Warp Stabilizer in Premier did not like the side-by-side format)- image format is side-by-side 3D, which means in 1080p mode, you get 1920/2 pixels across for each eye, this is a common 3D format, but is not AVC 3D compression which stores the full 1920 resolution for each eye, it's a very reasonable compromise, some argue top-over-bottom half resolution would store more total resolution because the lenses are offset only horizontally (passive 3D TVs demonstrate how your eyes combine the two 540 line images into higher visible resolution)- the video is H.264 (good) compressed but the audio is in ADPCM format (the stream is 2 channels but are there 2 mics?), stored in an AVI file wrapper, my Panasonic 3D TV would not directly play this file format and I had to transcode the audio and wrapper to something else using Handbrake (recompresses video) or virtual dub (copy video stream with no recompression and compress audio to ac3 into a mp4 or mkv wrapper, I could import it into Adobe Premiere- lens is fixed focus, so close ups are limitedIf I were James Cameron, I'd find the camera pretty limiting, but, I get to play with 3D video and see if I have any interest in a camera costing 10x+ more. Think in terms of smartphone/point-and-shoot video quality, in 3D, for 10% of what a better 3D camera would cost.

          Make 3D movies for $150.00

          Comments about DXG-5F9VK HD 1080p 3D Camcorder:

The main draw for this 3D HD camcorder is the price. For $150.00, you can shoot real 3D in 1080p @ 30 fps. I bought this camera so I can learn to use the 3D editing in Sony Vegas Pro 12. After I bought the software, I did not have enough money to buy a good 3D camcorder. I was going to buy the new Sony HDR-TD30 which is about $1,000.00. But I ran out of money and settled on this camera.

Aside from the price it has some pleasant features. The camera will let you option your 3D shooting into three modes - close up (upper body shots) people in a space (classroom, living room, back yard, etc), or far away. With the camera set to shoot 3D far away, I found that it did not work that well. After about a good 100- 130 feet away the 3D effect is lost at the far end of the image. But if you have say, a tree in the foreground, you will see good 3D, but the far away objects turn into 2D.

Do you remember when you bought your first digital camera? It was only 2 or 3 megapixels. Then you moved up to a 10 or 12 Megapixel camera. Quite a difference. Well, this camcorder is more like your early digital camera. But the image is super sharp, and the colors are right on the money. I am sure we all would want for a larger immaging device with more Megapixels.

One surprising good thing about this camera is its ability to shoot inside in areas that do not have much light. I shot in a barn last week. The image was dark in the 3D LCD viewer in the camera so I did not expect much. And the barn was dark with very little light. I was very much surprised when I plugged the DXG-5F9VK into my 3D TV. The image was bright and more then just useable. I was very happy to find this. The DXG-5F9VK comes with a HDMI cable that plugs into the camcorder with a mini HDMI connector, and a standard HDMI connector on the other end. I plugged it into my Sony 3D TV and it just worked.

The DXG-5F9VK has a setting referred to in the manual as EV. This stands for Exposure Value. You can change this from -2.0 to +2.0. The lower the number, the more light you let into the camera. I set the EV setting for -2.0 before I filmed in the barn. This is not explained in the manual.

Because the DXG-5F9VK is so inexpensive, some things that one thinks of as standards are missing. The one that bothers me the most is the built in microphone. You do not have a shoe or other way to plug in a remote microphone. I think if you want to record someone talking, you need to have them with in 5 feet or so. When shooting outside, with even the slightest wind blowing, it make a terrible noise in the built in microphone.

The largest SD card you can install in this camera is 32GBs. Don't buy the standard SD card. If you do, you may drop frames. I bought a ScanDisk Ultra 32GB SDHC class 10 card and I have had no issues. The manual calls for a class 6 or higher.

The DXG-5F9VK comes with software. I installed it in a Windows 7 64 bit machine. It updated it self after I installed it. I have not used the software yet, so I can not give any advice about it.

The battery that comes with the camera is called a NP120 LI-ion 3.7V 1,700mAh battery. The extra battery that B&H sells for this camera is a NP-60. It is a Li-ion 3.7 volts and 900mAh. If you look around you can find 3.7V 2200mAh replacement batteries for well under $10.00 The DXG-5F9VK has a F3.2 f=5.1mm lens

All in all, I am happy with this camera. I can film my friends and things around town just fine. Do not expect the resolution of Avatar, but it is real 3D. My friends are blown away when I show them video filmed of them in 3D.

          The good:

          The price
          Sharp image and good color
produces good 3D video even in darker environments
          Shoots real 3D in 1080p @ 30 fps
Comes with free software that is updated via the web.
Comes with battery charger, battery, software, and cables to plug into your 3D TV, as well as cables to move the 3D video from the DXG-5F9VK to your PC (via USB).
The camera will shoot 3D still images
You can toggle this camera to 50Hz, PAl if you live on the other side of the pond.

          Not so good:

Imaging sensors is two five megapixel each and the sensor it self is 1/3.2"
          No external microphone ability
When shooting in sunlight, it is impossible to see anything in the LCD 3D screen.
You need to toss a blanket over you and camera to see an image in the LCD screen.

          Comments about DXG-5F9VK HD 1080p 3D Camcorder:

I was a bit apprehensive about buying a 3D camcorder in this price range, but I took a chance, and was pleasantly surprised. The image quality is very good, far better than the video resolution of my Fujifilm W3. Operation is simple, fixed focus lenses, exposure compensation, and white balance adjustments. No image stabilization, so a tripod is recommended unless you have a steady hand.

On the negative side, audio quality is poor, but it can be greatly improved if the video is edited in a late version of Magix Edit Pro Plus. There is no headphone jack.

So, in conclusion, this camera is a very capable performer at its price point. As with any 3D camcorder, an understanding of HOW to shoot in 3D is important. Subjects in the 4-12 foot range will show the most depth. No excessive panning, and use very little or no digital zoom.

Image quality is excellent. Not very good in low light. 3D quality is amazing. I had a little trouble with it not charging up enough, but drained the battery and recharged it for a good 8 hours and now it works great with lots of battery life. Easy to use, but 3D lenses do interfere with LCD screen angles.

I find this camera to do as advertised. It is excellent for the price. Very good results when simple rules are followed: Use a tripod (It does not have an Image stabilizer). Do not shoot any closer than 6'. Adjust the EV setting depending on light conditions. That's it!

            Comments about DXG-5F9VK HD 1080p 3D Camcorder:

Zoom is useless. Still camera is mediocre at best. You will get better pictures by snatching photos from the video. But for the price, you do get a pretty good 3D camcorder and it is truly HD (as long as you do not need to zoom in from over 20ft).

            Comments about DXG-5F9VK HD 1080p 3D Camcorder:

Working with footage of events 10 years, I bought this machine to test recordings in 3D, very good, easy to operate, and has an excellent image. I recommend for all users. Cuiddos should be very close when filmed images, scenes should be quick nan tiring sightseeing. The 3D photos are spectacular.

            Comments about DXG-5F9VK HD 1080p 3D Camcorder:

Works very well. For the price it does an excellent job of capturing stereo video.

Some points to be aware of: it writes AVI files which are hard to deal with on Macs. It produces only SBS format stereo output, not MVC. It does not have image stabilisation - a tripod is almost essential.

It has a well planned stereo capability, with three convergence settings. The zoom works in stereo (but don't go too far or you will wreck the effect). Colour balance is nicely adjustable.

This is a great little camcorder at a great price. I've had mine for just a few days and so far it's more than I expected. I made a demo video and posted it on YouTube channel: urbancowgirlshow . The demo is in 1080p, best viewed on a 3d monitor or 3d tv, not with anaglyph red/cyan glasses, but YouTube gives you the choice of 3d mode and resolutions from 1080p on down.

              Comments about DXG-5F9VK HD 1080p 3D Camcorder:

The DXG 5F9V is a good entry-level 3D video camera. It does most of the same things the much more expensive 3D camcorders do and is much smaller, lighter and simpler to use. My major complaints are that image stabilization is not particularly effective, sound quality is lacking and viewing the LCD screen is difficult under bright outdoor lighting conditions (where 3D photography is best). Contrary to some of the reviews I have seen, it is possible to zoom while filming in 3D. However, the zoom is not smooth and the image quality is somewhat reduced when zoomed all the way in. I found that the side-by-side 3D AVI video files produced by the 5F9V cannot be saved to a data disc and viewed on a 3D TV using a DIVX-rated DVD or Bluray player. The included software may have the ability to edit the video files and convert them to AVCHD format for saving on a disc, but the software documentation was confusing and I was not able to accomplish anything with it. Your best bet is either to leave the video files on the SD card and play them on your 3D TV using the camera as the playback device (HDMI cable included), or transfer the files to a storage media and play them on your side-by-side-capable 3D TV using a computer with appropriate video player software. Even with its issues, I am having fun making and viewing my own HD 3D videos with the DXG 5F9V.

              Comments about DXG-5F9VK HD 1080p 3D Camcorder:

Major selling point? 60 fps. If you capture video frames at all, when you view your videos, are the captured frames always blurry? My expensive SONY cameras only had one good frame every 4 or so frames. Simply because they could not do 60 fps except in slow motion, short duration is all they could do slow motion, and not hi res. It doesn't have image stabilization? I never ever saw any that worked anyways. With 60 fps, you can get clear video. End of story.
Quality camera, made cheap, but sold cheap, with everything you need, and will produce better imagery and better results than a high priced SONY camera. I have 5 SONY camcorders trust me I know. From now on its DXG for me. I bought the 2D loved it, so right away I bought the 3D.
Also, very impressed with B&H Photo. Fast efficient service, quality products, good delivery times. I shop on-line a lot.

                      Comments about DXG-5F9VK HD 1080p 3D Camcorder:
