Comments about Novation TWITCH DJ Controller:

DJing/mixing is something I've wanted to do for an obscenely long time, going all the way back to hours spent alone with my Amiga 500, a copy of ProTracker, and a whole lot of samples.

At the ripe old age of 40, I finally decided to at least give mixing a go as a hobby and see if there was an itch here to scratch.

Turns out there is, and the Novation Twitch controller has made it a lot of fun. It's a solid though lightweight piece of kit that, for a newbie like myself, at first appears to have too many buttons to comprehend.

It doesn't take long, however, to get the hang of everything - short of trying to remember all the extra functions that are unlocked by the use of shift and multi-mode buttons (many of the buttons have off, solid on, and flash states that all mean something different).

The Twitch comes bundled with a copy of Serato Itch, for which it was designed, but I never even tried Itch since Serato DJ supports the Twitch and is free for use by Twitch users. This seems to be both a good and bad thing. Good because you get the latest software, bad because I get the feeling the mappings aren't quite as 1 to 1 in DJ as with Itch. There are a few functions regarding FX and decks that make little sense between the Twitch and Serato DJ. It just takes time to come to grips with the idiosyncracies.

The Novation Twitch does include an overlay for Traktor mappings, but I have not yet tried it with the Traktor software.

Having never really mixed before, the use of touch strips instead of decks hasn't thrown me, but I can tell that the Twitch is not a controller for those who like to scratch. It just has no precision for that. The strips work well enough for cueing, nudging, and dropping into different parts of the track.

I can't speak to the durability of the Twitch as I've not had it long and really have not taxed it, but it is standing up well to my novice fumblings.

There were a few options on the table when I started looking to get a controller. I considered the Traktor Kontrol S2, the Pioneer DDJ-WeGO, and the Twitch. Of the three, the Twitch hit a nice price/performance ratio and the promise that I wouldn't outgrow it anytime soon should I decide to spend a lot more time with it.

Comments about Novation TWITCH DJ Controller:

I used to be a club and rave dj, but now im a working dad. I recently desired doing some home mixes for online, so i researched for something that could work for me. Let me tell you i made the right decision! I love this thing, though it is much different than turntables, its not too far from cd systems, but with alot more bells and whistles. It really unleashes my creativity! I even got in touch with some old friends about a gig or two. This thing isnt just a controller its a performance instrument!!!

Comments about Novation TWITCH DJ Controller:

This product is great for Serato itch. If you want to use Serato itch but don't have the room for a bigger controller, this one is a great space saver that allows you to still manipulate the music. I'm not a fan that there is no manual looping on the controller, only an auto loop setting, but you can save loops with ease on the fly which a great thing. The touch strip can lag at times but is a very versatile tool and can be used for multiple functions such as fx, loop size, pitch bend, needle drop, etc.

It's definitely a different work flow having one assignable fx rack (I'm used to deck dedicated fx) but all the fx in itch sound great even though there aren't a lot. Also includes fx on your volume faders which is a nice feature exclusive to the twitch.

All the faders and knobs feel very high quality and the sound card is very clear. People say there is a low output in the sound card, but they are wrong. They simply need to adjust headroom settings in the software to get more sound.

It includes a traktor overlay to use with traktor but I have never tried it. I've heard good things about that also. Same thing with ableton, though an overlay is not included.

This is the cheapest serato controller to where you can do the most with your music. Definitely worth the purchase if you don't scratch or don't have the space, or just want a more portable solution. This controller is very versatile.

Comments about Novation TWITCH DJ Controller:

For a semi pro controller the Twitch provides flexibility and features you typically see in high-end controllers. The build and feel is solid. I use mine everyday with no problems. It will take some use to getting comfortable on the touchstrips but you will. Great controller would recommend any day.

Comments about Novation TWITCH DJ Controller:

Coming from a DJ Standpoint, the Novation Twitch is an amazing creation. Right out of the box, it is killer. The fact that as soon as you get it, you can plug in and play with very minimal setup makes this a wonderful product. Also, the touch strip features are incredible. The ease of use is out of this world, almost anyone would be able to pick this thing up, and play right out of the box. Aside from that, the only thing that I've found to be a downfall about it, is sometimes the touch strips are a bit too sensitive, which is a blessing, and a burden, depending on what you are doing. All in all, I would give the Twitch a 5 out of 5 every time, its an amazing product, and the mix of digital and touch screen technology push the limits of what DJ's can do.

Comments about Novation TWITCH DJ Controller:

After much deliberation I picked this up - I've never been a fan of the platters as a mechanism for digital music, and this seemed like an interesting alternative - turns out the touchstrips are actually more flexible than I thought, and have really nice response.

The only things I could see improvements on are the knobs being less stiff (I've read they loosen up quickly though?) and the sliders being more solid.

Easy to map to Ableton as well, which is really handy for either Djing using ableton or even just as a controller for producing music.

Comments about Novation TWITCH DJ Controller:

This is my first purchase of any sort of DJ equipment and since I have a vast collection of digital music, it seemed reasonable for me to get a controller that I could use to play and mix it all at parties or just for fun (as I have been doing now). The software it comes with is awesome. It does everything I need it to do, however I think I will be moving to Traktor soon, as it makes the 2 decks this controller has into 4, this way I can have 1 track playing and the next 2 songs I want ready to go and the 4th deck will act as a sound effect track ready to be cued. For a really in depth look at what this product can do I recommend looking at videos online. The features are too numerous to go into it here. All the knobs and buttons are very responsive and the unit is lightweight and ready to move around. The only thing I would fault this unit on however is the built in soundcard. The volume levels really don't get that high. Don't get me wrong, I can get it VERY loud in my office, but after being in the forums after purchasing this, I noticed a lot of professional DJs faulting the unit here saying if they played a venue with sub par equipment that the output would not get as loud as they wanted it. Novation has some solutions they offer, but it involves buying another piece of hardware (about $50-80) that would hook up in between the Twitch and master out of where ever it is you are playing. Again, research will provide you with a more in depth discussion on this topic. I have to say though that I am very satisfied with this. I play for friends at parties and in my home and people love to watch and just sit around and listen to tunes while I mix them together and mash them up.

Comments about Novation TWITCH DJ Controller:

I am new to the world of DJing and although I am still getting used to the Twitch I am amazed at how easy it is to use, it really makes me feel like I know what I am doing. Replacing the traditional jog wheels with a touch strip was very smart. It's a easy to just touch the strip and the song starts or jumps to the place that you want it. I did not think it would be easy to scratch with the touch strip but although it takes a little getting used to, it is a blast. Where the Twitch really shines is the slicer, the eight cue points you could add on the fly and the effects and how they are controlled. I could go on and on about the specs but you could get those anywhere. It is an amazing product and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a great DJ tool.

Comments about Novation TWITCH DJ Controller:

Very happy with this, my goal was to get to practice without having the overhead of setting up my usual mixer/turntables setup. Very happy with the slicing buttons, much easier to mix, effects are now a breeze with serato.

So overall very happy, pro DJs might have a few problems with the Twitch, for one the headphone output on mine seems a bit iffy, looks like my headphones cord acts as an antenna, introduces noises unless I shift the cable around. I liked what came out the master output so far, but I haven't tried it seriously enough to judge it.

Great practice tool for aspiring DJs, footprint small enough to fit on a desk, love the easy access to itch features, pro DJs will likely like it if they see it like a toy more than the end-all-be-all controller.

Comments about Novation TWITCH DJ Controller:

I've been a DJ/ Mobile DJ for 13yrs now I've been using Serato Scratch Live for about 6yrs and all records/CD before that. When the VCI-300 came out a while back I wanted to get that at first but decided that the time with the gear I already own I didn't need it.

So a few years go by I've heard and read about Twitch and I was hesitant at first, but it is awesome. I bought this one over other controllers because I did not want to replace my 1200's, I still want to be able to switch and gain a different skill on the Twitch. With Itch 2.0 there is little to learn if your switching from SSL, its easy.

Now I'm able to carry this in my back pack. When I'm at the airport I'm able to bust this out and practice. Or if I'm at a party I can just hook up with other DJ's for a quick takeover set.

Get this if you want something easy to use, portable.
