The Rycote Mini Windjammer for Canon XF300 / XF305 HD Camcorders is a lined, slip-on synthetic fur cover designed for use with the Canon XF300 or XF305 HD Camcorder. It has a windshield rating of medium that provides approximately 30dB of reduction from the effects of high-gust wind noise and vocal plosives. The Mini Windjammer can be used over a foam windscreen or on its own. A touch fastener strap secures the cover in place.

We are currently filming a run and gun styled TV adventure series and have to keep our gear down to a minimum. The Canon XF305 camera was an excellent choice for various reasons, but one of it's shortfalls was excessive wind noise on the onboard microphone. We did use external rifle microphones with windjammers that did the trick, but this just added more to the camera and frankly, the onboard microphone has excellent sound qualities thats hard to beat...
After an internet search for windjammers for the XF305 we came across the Rycote and decided to order one from B&H. From a design perspective it's a flimsy fit onto the microphone thats really not quite up to the task, but we fixed that by glueing velcro strips on the inside of the windjammer and onto the edges of on board microphone on the camera. In my opinion Rycote should do this as standard with self adhesive velcro strips that can be included in the package. It works beautifully! Wind noise is a thing of the past, the only thing to monitor and watch out for at the moment is camera handing noise, but either than that, the onboard microphone together with the Rycote Windjammer is an absolute winner!
