    My question:
Does this Sandisk SD card reader read/write files at faster speed over USB 2.0 than my built in computer's card reader??? I don't have USB 3 yet, and can't add it to my computer (all-in-one HP Touch Smart 600) given lack of space inside the all-in-one.

I couldn't find the answer to this question on reviews, in terms of specific speed rates, so I did my own testing. ***I'm not sure if these rates will apply to your computer as I don't know if your computer card reader reads at same speed as mine. I used a 64 GB SanDisk Extreme SDXC UHS-I card which writes/reads at maximum of 45 MB/second.

TRANSFERRING A 600 MB VIDEO FILE OVER USB 2.0:
    1) Transfer from SD card to desktop:
Sandisk SD card reader (~30 MB/sec [~20 seconds]); My HP computer's SD card reader (~18 MB/sec [~30 seconds]).

    2) Transfer from desktop to SD card:
Sandisk SD card reader (~20 MB/sec [~34 seconds]); My HP computer's SD card reader (~15 MB/sec [~43 seconds]).

I did the same tests with other various size files, including 1 GB video file, 32 GB of videos/photos, and 16.4 GB of photos/videos, and got similar rates.

Other issues- I agree that the magnetic mount is flimsy, but I got used to it, and it's not a big deal for me, but would prefer a tougher mount. It is a bit tougher than usual to get SD card into the slot, but I got used to it now, so not a big deal.

    CONCLUSION:
At least for my specific computer, this Sandisk Card reader transfers files at higher speed over USB 2 than my computer's SD card reader. The speed differences listed above are useful for me since I transfer large amounts of files and these speed differences become significant with large file transfers.

This model has big problems. In 2013 I changed four times this
Sandisk card reader. One reader I threw it in the trash. Problem: broken pin for CF. Changed twice a SanDisk card reader for 7 days. Problem: a broken and bent pin in the CF slot. I bought a fourth Sandisk card reader this year, he again does not work. Problem: does not recognize the SD card (hc, 16 GB). All my life I've used Sandisk cards and SanDisk card reader without any problems. Gentlemen engineers, what is this now? Be serious and solve this problem or I have to stop buying your products! (heavy heart).

Comments about SanDisk ImageMate All-in-One USB 3.0 Reader / Writer:

I bought this simple reader for the newer HD SD cards I use and its backwards compatibility. I plan on sticking a new 3.0 or 3.1 PCI card in my computer to make the downloads even quicker. I have to say, however, in all my years of buying tech stuff, I have never seen a stand that was so pretty, yet so ridiculously useless. I mean this stand is well made of metal, and adding the magnet to it must have at least doubled the cost to manufacture this reader, but it is TOTALLY useless. Even if you were to glue or tape the base of the stand to keep it from falling over, the magnet is not strong enough to keep the reader attached. If I owned this company I would fire the engineer who designed this and his boss. lol If there is someone with SanDisk who actually used this stand and got it to work I would love to meet them. I gave the reader 4 stars because it works great and is nice and thin so you can stick it to the top or side of your computer with a 3M Command tape and its always handy.

Purchased to read a variety of flash cards used in five different cameras of different vintages. Plugged into USB3 port on win7 machine. Machine auto installed driver and reader pops up card content almost as fast as I can take them out of cameras and plug them in.

Comments about SanDisk ImageMate All-in-One USB 3.0 Reader / Writer:

This card reader is great. Works seamlessly with my macbook pro, so well in fact that I notice which of my memory cards are faster/slower now, rather than thinking they're all the same because of my older slow card readers. USB 3.0 RULES.

The build is plastic, and sometimes my CF card doesn't line up properly causing some of the prongs in the reader to bend out of place and become useless. I used a toothpick and bent them back and all was fine in minutes. I'm rough on my equipment, but I feel it should be able to withstand general use.

Overall a great buy for the price.

And I buy lots of gear! This piece of junk stopped working shortly after I bought it. I usually don't have time to write reviews but I thought people should know about this. My house mate is a photographer too and he said they went though a bunch of them that didn't work when he was working on a job at Sun Studios in Melbourne, Australia. So for the past 6 months (when not shooting to the laptop) I've been using my USB 2 card reader or borrowing one from someone at my studio. I haven't tried to return it because I'm in Australia and I thought it would take up too much of my time. Stay well away form this one.

Works great to speed up getting images loaded to the computer, the stand doesn't really hold reader up. It's too light, and the USB cable is so stuff. Be careful to make sure you insert card the right way so you do not break or twist the prongs from the reader.

Thought the design was really neat but after using decided it is not good. You need both hands to insert and line up pins. Takes many attempts to insert properly. Extremely frustrating. Also did not read my Hoodman compact flash card. Tried calling customer service and they were not helpful at all. Needed the product number off the reader. Difficult to read any numbers off bottom silver sticker. Numbers small and silver paper that printed on made it impossible. Will throw in the garbage!

I've had this for 6 months, When it works it's great. That is when it works. The USB3.0 connector is far to loose and is prone to coming out. Many messed up or interrupted transfers because of this. Also there is an error in windows 8 that when using CF cards will cause Capture One Pro software and Lightroom to crash.

Look elsewhere for a good card reader.

I was using SDDRX4-CF-901 FireWire reader for 7 years and it stopped working 3 months ago. I ordered this USB 3.0 reader (FW one was discontinued) and I already have problems with CF slot pin at the edge, it's deformed and doesn't allow the card to be inserted, you need to be a goldsmith to correct the pin and insert card every time you need. P.S. The cable is heavier than the reader itself - I don't think its a good quality product. Disapointed, didn't expect from SanDisk

I would highly recommend this product. I do not use the stand it come with at all, and my compact flash drive goes in easily every single time. It is really fast, and I am very happy with it! I have used it over twenty times so far, and I haven't experienced any problems. Shipping on the product and my lens was very prompt as well.

The stand adds no value, but the unit is solidly built, and so far has performed efficiently.

The reader is efficient, lightweight and compact but difficult to configure. It looks sleek but it's impossible to use without two hands - one to hold the unit together and one for the card. The cord is heavy and inflexible and the awkward little stand is weakly magnetic so it is very unstable in a vertical configuration. The tail is definitely wagging the dog.

Even when using the the reader horizontally I had to tape the cord down to keep it in place.
