The APH-2n Accessory Package for H2n Handy Recorder from Zoom is a collection of accessories designed to enhance the functionality of the H2n Handy Recorder. It includes a wired remote with an extension cable that allows you to start, stop, and pause recordings and add marks. It also prevents handling noise for clean recordings.
The package also includes a foam windscreen to reduce the effects of wind and breath noise, a USB AC adapter and USB cable for convenient powering, an adjustable desktop tripod stand, a padded carrying case, and a mic clip adapter so you can mount the recorder on a standard microphone stand.

This accessory kit contains items that are not only useful, but essential, for the H2n.
First, there's a nice-looking carrying case. It's a simple zip-case that is just the right size and shape for the H2n. Once you have that, you won't be able to imagine taking your H2n anywhere without it. Great as the H2n is, it's plastic construction isn't the best, so the case provides some protection for that.
Then there's the wind screen. It's a bit awkward and strange looking. (When attached to the H2n, it reminds me of the mushroom people in the old Super Mario Brothers games.) Also, it blocks your view of the LEDs that indicate microphone configuration mode and that blink when there's distortion. (Those LEDs should be in a different spot, anyway, like next to the LCD or on the sides of the case.) But, if you're recording in wind, you'll want the windscreen.
Also included in the kit, is a miniature tripod. This tripod is exactly like one I got from Dollar Tree, not very useful. I've tried attaching my H2n to it, only to find that the recorder is top-heavy when on this tripod, and the overall appearance can be distracting to panelists and other audience members at a meeting. The legs don't spread out enough to lower the center of gravity sufficiently. It could tip over at the slightest touch. You're better off with a flexible-legged tripod such as the GorrilaPod, despite the issues with those. Ideally, I'd like to see some kind of weighted dish-mount that sits low and dampens sound transmitted through the table it's sitting on. If you tap on the table, it might not be loud enough to hear through the air, but sound goes through solid objects easily and it WILL be audible in your recordings. Also, the H2n has a plastic tripod socket, which was NOT a good idea because it's too easy to overtighten and strip the threading, ruining your ability to use the recorder on any kind of mount. Any tripod or other mounting device designed for the H2n should have some type of torque-limiting device on it to prevent overtightening. Most don't, because manufacturers assume users are responsible enough to determine the right amount of torque by feel.
Next, there's a stick-shaped mount that attaches to the tripod socket of the H2n and then sits in a standard microphone stand. I cannot comment on the quality of that, because I'm never in performance or speaking situations that would call for it. See what a musician or frequent public speaker might have to say about that.
There's a basic 120V AC - to USB power adapter and USB cable. I've never used it. The NiMH batteries I use (Sanyo Eneloop, BTW) keep my H2n powered up for sufficient time for my purposes, but I suppose it would be useful if you need to record for more than 10 hours. It does NOT charge batteries in the recorder. Zoom probably could have left this out and saved some money. If they must include one of these, I would have preferred it have an LED on it, just to confirm it's plugged in and receiving power. This one is a plain black box with no LED.
And finally, the reason I got this accessory kit, is the wired remote. If you're concerned about handling noise when pressing the "record" button, you'll want this. However, I've found it awkward in most situations. The wire tangles easily, even in storage in a Zip-Loc bag. They should have designed it with a channel around the edge of the remote so you can wrap the wire around it for storage and have it stay put. I would have probably paid extra for a wireless remote. (In my review of the recorder itself, I even suggested Bluetooth for future models.) I do, however, like having an LED next to the remote's "record" button, which would be hard to implement in a wireless remote. That way, if the recorder is placed out of your line of sight, you can still look at the remote to make sure it's recording when it should be, and on standby when it should be.
Once you open the box for the accessory kit, either keep the box to store the accessories in, or find another container such as a Zip-Loc bag. In addition to the carrying case for the recorder, they probably should have thrown in a custom zip-pouch for the other accessories, with pockets the right size for each accessory. This would have added to the price, but would have been worth it to keep everything organized.

Comments about Zoom APH-2n Accessory Package for H2n Handy Recorder:
The windmuff is quite effective outdoors for ambient sound recording. The case is essential, allowing me to carry the recorder on the outside of my camera backpack. The remote gives control of the recorder while insinde the case when using a lavalier microphone and monitor headphones for video naration. The tripod is barely adequate with the recorder verticle, but still useful for desk/table-top use while narating or for interviews.

Comments about Zoom APH-2n Accessory Package for H2n Handy Recorder:
This comes with some useful stuff and it used to come as a part of the old H2. Too bad it's a separate purchase now, but it's useful. The pouch is great and holds the recorder safely in any bag you'll toss it. The belt hook and loop closure is a little hard to put on. The wired remote will prove handy to mark spots during interviews.

Comments about Zoom APH-2n Accessory Package for H2n Handy Recorder:
ZOOM should have packaged this with the H2N recorder.Every piece is going to be useful or necessary at some point, even the little tripod. All of the items are made of high quality materials and interface as intended. My only gripe is the fit of the mic stand adapter. The H2N has plastic threads and the adapter screws into it. The design of the adapter could actually contribute to damaging the recorder if too much side pressure were applied.

I used the case immediately, the tripod stand and remote shortly after. The remote lets you start and stop recording without touching the recorder - smooth! I used the AC adpater to save on batteries and it can be used for charging my GPS too - handy! I have no need for the foam muffler or the mic clip adapter yet. The H2n can be used with a camera tripod, but having it attached to a boom mic stand would let you get in close. I'm very pleased with this assortment of accessories!

This recorder was purchased based on reviews related to its use for focus groups. It worked like a charm, capturing clear audio on an SD disk, allowing for transfer of the audio files to a computer file. Love this recorder. I would suggest purchasing the accessory package at the same time as the recorder. Well worth the investment.

Comments about Zoom APH-2n Accessory Package for H2n Handy Recorder:
The H2n Handy Recorder that uses this accessory pack is the most awesome, reasonably priced recorder on the market today!
While researching what brand and model to buy, I came across the tip you might want to follow. In an average home or apartment, the best place to record is in a closet. This is because all the cloth suppresses extra noise. Well, I tried this in our standard, apartment-sized closet with sliding doors. I set up my microphone inside the closet, sitting on a pillow (I have a narrow table in my closet, but I'm sure you could figure out a hanging "stand" using a wire hanger), with another pillow behind it and clothing to either side. I stood in the room which is not at all sound-proof. The results? The only unwanted noise I picked up was of a siren. This is incredible because I live on a high-traffic street.
If you are recording your own voice as I am, this accessory pack is *required* as it contains the remote. Why? You speak into the live side of the microphone, but the mic's controls are on the reverse side, therefore, the remote is essential.

Comments about Zoom APH-2n Accessory Package for H2n Handy Recorder:
The case is essential, the remote control will work very nicely for me in some particular application environments, as will the USB cable and AC Adapter. The Windscreen will be helpful at times, I haven't used it yet. The microphone stand adapter looks kinda dopey, but I can see me using it on a boom arm over a stage front, whereas the tripod is pretty flimsey. I'd rather use the stand adapter with a desktop mike stand, but hey, you can use it however you want...

Comments about Zoom APH-2n Accessory Package for H2n Handy Recorder:
When looking at personal recorders I found that the Zoom accessory pack was available for not much more than the recorder itself. Other manufacturers had every part as an individual separate price which ran the overall price pretty high.
The Zoom pack came with the AC Adapter, Wind screen, Tri-pod, 4GB SD card, Remote control and case. GREAT buy, and well worth having these accessories even if they are not used often.

Based on price for individual items, the accessory package is definitely the way to go! The tripod stand is a little flimsy and provides no shock mount or absorption. Better mount should be considered.
