I used this gear to provide a high def TV an HDMI feed in another room without having to purchase another DirecTV receiver. Works great. Only difficult part is routing and hiding the CAT5 cable from room-to-room so cabling was not noticable. On occassion we experienced an outside power failure (only for a second) and the remote TV suddenly showed a strong blue hue/tint so I reset the transmitter and receiver by powering them down and back up again and this easily fixed it. Only other minor issue is that you need a wall power socket handy at both the trasmitter and receiver ends so you can plug-in the AC power adapters. I had to purchase an additional power strip in my situation to provide enough plugs. Also note this model does not integrate Infrared (IR) to remotely change channels on the DirecTV receiver but I alreay had a 5.8GHZ radio-controlled transmitter/receiver pair that I used seperately for changing channels on the DirecTV receiver from the remote end (receiver) of the KanexPro HDMI Extender. If you don't need to change TV channels from the remote end, then this is no big deal but Kanex sells other models that integrate IR controls but for a higher cost (est $230).

First off it isn't an extender; it's a converter set. The difference is that instead of my device connecting directly to the destination, it's actually connecting to the transmitter box that compresses the signal and sends it to the receiver which then talks to the destination. As such your source won't pick up the destination's EDID. Also the converter requires very specific settings in order to work and the tech inside is far more complicated and finicky than a a true extender would be. The device can work, I've seen it. But I've also gone through FIVE sets of them. They don't like DVI signals even if they're 1080i or 720p. It's iffy on many other computer resolutions that should work fine according to the device specs. If you're looking for something inexpensive I recommend B&H # AVHDMC53M or B&H # AVDVIC5MSET or any number of similar products. They actually extend your true signal rather than converting it and then converting back. If you need to go further you really need to go a category up to something like B&H # KRTP573 B&H # KRTP574

    Would not suggest

Comments about KanexPro HDMI Extender over CAT 5e/6 (165'):

I purchased two sets of these. Could not get them to work. Tried numerous setups with different tv's, different cables, etc, etc. I'm technically minded with electronics so know what I am doing. Emailed B&H bak and forth and wasted time with their suggestions to trouble shoot. Decided to return the item to be told it exceeded 30 days and I must take up my issue with Kanexpro. I would not suggest this product. I'm sure there are more reliable units on the market.

Comments about KanexPro HDMI Extender over CAT 5e/6 (165'):

I have been trying to find a solution to extend my go pros over a long reach. Right now they are working using the micro hdmi out on the go pro into the reciever Kanexpro extender our of it to a 50 foot cat 5 cable then into the reciever end via cat 5 out of the hdmi output to my ATEM switcher. I was getting some green spakles on occasion in black zones when hooked up to a cheap HD TV but did not get that with a Sony handycam so may have some issues or maybe its the TV. We shall see but picture looks the same as if the camera were connected straight in to the tv via short HDMI so I like them says it goes up to 130 feet max working at 50 for me.

Comments about KanexPro HDMI Extender over CAT 5e/6 (165'):

I purchased this extender to use with an existing CAT 6 cable run that was approximately 60 ft. The extender did not work with that specific cable run, but it worked with a much longer cable run in an adjacent room. Both cable runs tested fine with a CAT cable tester. I suspect that the extender is sensitive to interference, but it would probably work in most environments. A replacement HDBaseT extender was more expensive, but proved to be much more robust in my setup.

Im currently using this for a projector setup. I have this plugged into Kopul 4-port HDMI switch box via the HDMI. The Kopul is connected to my FIOS, a COMPUTER, my DVD Player and Mini HDMI device. All devices are switched through th Kopul and HDMI out to the this Extender to a Projector via Aprox. a 50ft Cat5e run. This product does its job great so far and connectivity was easy.

We use this in our church. We have a 55" TV we use for our Student Ministry worship service and this enables us to have the computer in the back of the room with the TV up front. We are portable as well so we have to setup and takedown every week and using a CAT5 cables makes it a little bit easier.

I was not able to get this product to work with an ETC element lighting console. I had issues with it working with a Mac Mini as well. Likely could have been the one that we purchased, we did not return it and get another to test it. The idea is great, if it works it would be fantastic for the price.

Very economical Rx/Tx set that extends your HDMI reach a further 165 feet. I used the full 165 feet of CAT 6 cable and it works perfectly. But note that you should use solid copper wire; stranded wire does not work well.

Bought 4 of these for video distribution of a digital sign system. I used Cat6 STP cable and these did the trick. I wish the AC adapter cord was longer... that's my only gripe.

Used this item in two locations where the server was in a different room. The hdmi extension is easy to install, and works great. I preiously used a different extednder that was more expensive and had issues with it. I reccomend this to anyone needing a long hdmi run.

I needed a HDMI feed for a 22 camera system and DVR into an upstairs master bedroom where a Cat6 cable was prewired. Product works exactly as needed and looks great. Price was great and fast shipping. No cons at this point.

Before I purchased these units, I called Kanex to find out if they worked as advertised. We purchased 5 of these units for a commercial install, to be run out of a HDMI splitter. Sam from Kanex assured us these will work for our application. We installed the units, powered everything up and they worked perfectly. Our longest run is about 100 feet and have no issues. These are one wire units with power bricks on both receiver and transmitter. Would recommend these units to everybody that needs HDMI over CAT 6

Using this in basement with a Tivo HD and PlayStation 3 to a Sony 60" LCD NX801 (1080p) about 40 feet away. This solution was cheaper than my previous HDMI extender, which failed after 1 year.

The picture looks fantastic at 1080i and 720p, although I couldn't successfully pass the 1080p signal from the Playstation 3. Also, the status light on the receiver box does not work, but this is a very minor inconvenience. Overall, I'm satisfied with purchase, and happy the price is 50% less than competitor products.
