Product Highlights
  • Drive 2 or 3 Displays from 1 Connector
  • DisplayPort (DP) Input/Output
  • Works for DVI/VGA/HDMI/MDP via Adapter
  • Max Resolution Per Monitor: 1920 x 1080
  • Total Max Resolution: 5760 x 1080

The TripleHead2Go DP Edition External GXM from Matrox is an external Graphics eXpansion Module that lets you drive 3 displays, each at up to 1920 x 1080 resolution, from a single DisplayPort (DP) connector. This allows you to drive 3 displays from a laptop or from a desktop that only has one DisplayPort. You can also drive the 3 displays at 1680 x 1050 resolution each, or you can drive just 2 at 1920 x 1200 resolution each. The module allows you to drive displays using DVI, VGA, HDMI and Mini-DP outputs, provided you have the required adapter cables (not included). You can even connect a second TripleHead2Go to your graphics hardware to support up to 6 monitors at a time!

The module uses your system's existing GPU to provide high-quality, uncompressed graphics and video across all monitors. You can run different applications on each display or view one application across multiple monitors. A multi monitor set-up allows you to organize your workspace more efficiently, multi-task more comfortably and make fewer mistakes. Compatible with both Mac and PC, a wide variety of graphics cards, and most chipsets by ATI, Intel and nVIDIA, the TripleHead2Go DP Edition is a great way to quickly and easily add triple monitor capability to a notebook or desktop PC.

Increased Productivity
A triple monitor configuration can help enhance productivity when working. You'll find it much easier to work with multiple documents and windows at the same time, allowing you to more effectively multitask.
Surround Gaming
Using 3 displays for computer gaming can create a more immersive experience. A "surround vision" can create a panoramic effect that makes computer game playing more like a widescreen movie. This increased field of view lets you see more of the game environment. Many popular games support this configuration.
Bundled Management Software
Includes Matrox PowerDesk software to easily manage your desktop configuration. Includes Matrox Monitor Bezel Management (Windows only), designed to enhance gaming environments by converting 3 seemingly disjointed images into 1 continuous image, enhancing the surround gaming experience. Matrox Clone Mode is available for viewing a copy of one display on the other displays.
Versatile Performance
The TripleHead2Go can be used with a notebook or desktop computer with a DisplayPort. You'll be able to add 3 independent displays to your laptop or desktop from its monitor output. Your computer screen can be displayed on three 1920 x 1080 monitors via DP output for an impressive 5760 x 1080 resolution. Or, you can display your screen on just two 1920 x 1200 monitors via DP, for a total resolution of 3840 x 1200. You can drive HDMI and MDP monitors, as well (cables required), at a maximum resolution of 5040 x 1050 (3x 1680 x 1050).
Multi-GXM Support
Want to go further? Expand your desktop even more and connect a second TripleHead2Go to your graphics hardware to support up to 6 monitors at a time! Just combine both units to a dual output graphics card and take advantage of the increased desktop space. Please note: Multiple GXMs are supported under Windows only and GXM software suite 2.06 or above is required. GXMs must be of the same make and model.
Portable Design
You can fit the TripleHead2Go in the palm of your hand. This allows you to take it where your notebook goes, giving you the ability to take advantage of triple-monitor displays wherever you have access to them.
Painless Installation
Quick and easy to install; there's no need to open the computer case or insert components.
Easy Access
Spans taskbar across monitors for easy access to all your open applications.
Wide Compatibility
The device works with LCDs, CRTs and projectors. It's compatible with both PC and Mac computers, as well as a wide range of notebook and desktop video cards. It supports most graphics chipsets by ATI, Intel and nVIDIA.

I use the Matrox TripleHead2Go's to trick my computers into thinking one output is actually 3 wide and expanded over 3 projectors. I had the Digital SE edition and that one is awesome too but I wanted to be able to make 200ft cable runs. By switching to the DP edition I was able to put together a system that has 200ft vga cable runs to each projector for under 1,000$ (including the Matrox, dp - vga converters, and splitter/extenders). With the Digital SE I would have had to spend that much on each run via HDMI or DVI over Cat5.

Basically, the TripleHead2Go DP tricks the computer into thinking you have attached 1, very wide monitor. The signal is split over 3 screens. I am using this product on a MacBook Pro 15" (2.5 GHz Intel Core i7, 8GB 1333 MHz DDR3 RAM) with 3-24" LED monitors. The resulting max res pumped to the attached monitors (on my 15" MacBook Pro) is 4080 x 760 which yields 1360 x760 per screen (~VGA res.), or about ~72% to ~80% of the Mac PowerBook's higher 1680 x 1050 resolution. But, also given the MacBooks 15" screen, and the larger screen size of the attached monitors, that perceived resolution drops about another ~40% to .625% of the original res. The result is a very large, very soft image which creates a great deal of eyestrain. Not the best choice for an editor. And, while the spec's are clearly stated on the manufacturer's website, the numbers didn't make sense until I connected the device to my system and I saw the loss of resolution with my own eyes.

To be fair, if you are using a Mac Tower or some other cranked up machine, the resolution should be higher according to Matrox's website. Just be sure to read all of the spec's very carefully before taking the plunge.

If you do decide to purchase the TripleHead2Go DP, be sure to order the Matrox HDMI cables. Their cables have a proprietary plug - meaning "off-the-shelf" HDMI cables will not work. If you don't order them with the TripleHead2Go DP, you will have to order them eventually to connect your monitors. You'll lose valuable time waiting for them to be delivered.

My advice if you are using a MacBook Pro? Avoid this route. You'd be better served by spending the about the same amount of money you would spend on this device, cables and additional monitors, and instead, go get an Apple 27" Thunderbolt display. You won't have three screens (with bad resolution), but you will have one great monitor with stunning resolution.

      Multipurpose Splitter

      By Ttbold

Comments about Matrox TripleHead2Go DP Edition External GXM:

Matrox has cornered the market on splitters of this type. The Triplehead2go has an easy set up and is useful for a wide range of applications. The software does have intermittent issues with recent MacOs versions such as Mavericks but they can be worked around. We have had a hardware failures with one of these products before but they are backed by a warranty.

Pros: good buy, multi-application, straight-forward set up
Cons: occasional software issues, we have experienced a hardware failure resulting in its return.

We use this for an entryway display; 3 TVs as one large image area.

Clean image. Super easy to set up.

Wish the software would allow compensation for the bezel, but maybe I just haven't found that option yet (or isn't available for the laptop we're using...it's several years old).

All in all, a great tool! Highly recommended.

I do many Macbook Pro based super-wide screen presentations. The TripleHead2Go is the best, maybe only, way to spread the presentation over a screen that can be 3840 x 1080 or wider. The setup is very easy and the images look great. I'm very happy with it.

It's a great product a in expensive way to split single video across multiple screens and it does it well, just make sure if you have a MacBook pro with mini display port that you buy the dp edition don't get the digital edittion cause the display port is dual link. It does what it says it does other then not being able to edge blend it works great

Product works as advertised and runs well. Only challenge was making sure I had the proper adapters to match up to the monitors that I had. Once that was sorted out and I had the right ones in hand, it went together in a matter of minutes.

The project works once you figure it out. The driver downloads very slow and the instructions leave much to be desired. Buy this product only if you are expert with computers or you will send it back. Very sure the mfg does not Beta test their instructions.

Comments about Matrox TripleHead2Go DP Edition External GXM:

The Matrox TripleHead2Go DP Edition, like the other Matrox boxes, does exactly what it was built to do and does it well. Whether you're trying to push content to 1, 2 or 3 displays to give you an insane amount of horizontal resolution, the Matrox boxes perform flawlessly.
