The good. This light is cheap, light, attractive, and really is 125 watt equivalent. I tested it near and far against my Lowel 100 watt IDlight with a fresh battery, and this little LED actually produces 1 stop more light, 6300k light, but more of it. The dimmer actually works well too. The battery hatch closes tight and gives the whole thing a "completed" and tidy appearance.

The bad. The actual light color measured by my broadcast camera is 6300k clear, 5200k with the "4300k" filter. What this means is that this light will not match any other light source you will come across save for bright sunlight, which sort of defeats the purpose of needing a light. The 4300k filter is actually PINK, not ORANGE. I don't know if they packaged the WRONG filter, or just mis-advertise, but you loose 1 stop of light using it, and it is actually closer to daylight (5600k) than without, plus it has the diffusion pattern on it as well. This light is best used as a cheap indoor daylight fill, or on any camera that has a full time auto white balance. The light does drop 300-400k when dimmed down, but at these color temps, you really won't be able to see a shift. I was planning on buying the Bescor "YELLOW" 3200k filter, but I have no faith it will be 3200k, so I will find some gel whatever, and cut and paste onto the clear filter they provide.

The power switch is extremely small, and operates upside down. It's smaller than the HyperBASS switch on an old Walkman, and recessed into the back far enough that it does not protrude. Just remember, once you find the switch, on the RIGHT side of the unit, flip up for off and down for on. Thank God they didn't put the switch and dimmer dial on the left side, you can imagine how inconvenient that would be!

Please don't bump the light while it is attached to anything. As with all of these lights, the plastic feet will most likely snap right off, as they are made of cheap brittle material. Looking at the baser, it appears that you may be able to replace the shoe mount part, as it is two pieces, one inside, and one outside, that come together on each side of the main housing. I will check with Bescor if this part is available, would mean you could just fix instead of replacing the entire unit.

Color temperature and esthetics aside, I did not expect this tiny cheap light to outshine my $255 100 watt unit. I bought this mainly to use on a tiny 1 lb Handycam during twilight and night, and since it has AWB, this light turned out to be the perfect choice. If you want even more light, and don't mind the weight of an additional 2 AA batteries, and maybe a few mm's size dimensionally, Bescor makes a 180 version of this device!

As a final note, the "stacking" slots on all sides can be used to mount other items, such as a small microphone......I like that.

Cheap components and poorly made. I was sorely dissappointed by this product, so I took it apart to see what was going on. I am an electical engineer, so after about 30 minutes of tinkering (and a couple resolders) I was able to get it working reasonably well. Bottom line this is a poorly made product; the potentiometer to adjust the brightness is reveresed (so when you try to turn the brightness up is actually goes dimmer, and vice-versa). This could not be an accident as the piece can only be assembled one way. Additionally my unit would flicker. This was the result of poor soldeing of components. Bottom line: don't buy. I have bought other Bescor products in the past, and they were pretty good, but this one was very bad, and far too glitchy to justify the [$]price tag.

Comments about Bescor Morning Star Series LED-125 Dimmable 125W On-Camera Light:

I bought the Bescor 125 after a lot of research into inexpensive camera lights and I can say that I am completely amazed by this light. It is incredibly luminous for 125 LED lights. Believe the hype. The case is plastic, which I know a lot of my fellow pros despise, and there are no barn doors, but the light is sturdy and very effective. The only downside is the lack of an effective low light setting. By the time you turn it on its lowest setting the light is already quite bright. But for the price and functionality, this light rocks.

Comments about Bescor Morning Star Series LED-125 Dimmable 125W On-Camera Light:

I certainly wasn't expecting the best when I purchased this on camera light but for the low price I paid it is decent enough. It's not exactly lightweight, but it is one of the bigger units available and was the main reason I got it.I am using it both on a separate stand and onto of my Iographer iPad film case. It throws a good amount of light and in some cases just a little too much even when it is dialed down to it's lowest setting. The only other gripe I have is about the mounting point. It's all plastic so if this were to get get knocked over on a camera or mount I don't think the mounting point would survive anything past a minor knock or bump so that is something to be aware of. Overall for the price it's fair value.

Comments about Bescor Morning Star Series LED-125 Dimmable 125W On-Camera Light:

This is my second of these lights. (I always keep a backup.) I use it to primarily shoot wedding videos. The two things I like best are that it was inexpensive, and it can be operated off a 12volt battery belt. (Also a backup plan.) It's brighter than another brand that cost about the same. It's not as robust as some other lights I've seen, (plastic case and mounting points) but if you take care of your gear, this'll likely be fine. If you have a crew who is tough on gear, keep looking. I don't think it'll stand up to rough handling. But remember, it's not expensive, and it works!

The BESCOR Morning Star LED-125 light is an outstanding light for our needs. Very bright even with the color filter in place still having plenty of control over the light level. Light weight and well built. Especially like the power plug so we can run off of our camera battery and not have to put batteries in the light itself. With the current price at B & H you can't go wrong!!

I am a wedding cinematographer and am always disappointed when my shots sometimes come out grainy. So when I bought this video light, it truly helped me with my problems by giving me the option of turning the light up or down with the amazing dimmable option on it. So now my shots have become a lot more cinematic and more beautiful for my clients to enjoy. Light is amazing, very bright, simple to use, good battery life and most of all very well built.

I use this light for video shooting and it is a decent value for the money. It doesn't throw out a lot of light, but when shooting close up, it gets the job done.

I would say it's drawbacks are: limited output wattage, cheap plastic feel (it's a Chinese knock off) & lack of ability to switch between daylight & tungsten.

It's strengths are: dimmable output between 10% & 100%, a gel is included to switch between daylight & tungsten, but it's one or the other & not a dimmable feature, it included a mini hot shoe adaptor so you can use the unit with cameras, such as the Canon Vixia, that have a smaller hot shoe.

Comments about Bescor Morning Star Series LED-125 Dimmable 125W On-Camera Light:

I have a couple of Bescor LED-70's and for the money, they're good enough. I needed a third for a weekly webcast using a small set for one on-cam talent. I took a bigger step and bought the LED-125. With all three I used the swivel shoe adapter so they mount onto light-duty stands. Besides being 55w stronger, the LED-125's housing is of much better construction. I also like that the batteries are loaded into the back of the light, as opposed to loading from the top with the LED-70. This is a good light that I've already recommended to a colleague who was shopping for an on-cam light.

I purchased this light so I could video a wedding reception and I'm very glad I did. Even the 5D MKII won't record in near pitch black darkness. And this light saved me on the couples first dance.

Comments about Bescor Morning Star Series LED-125 Dimmable 125W On-Camera Light:

I been using another type of light but it didn't have the throw like this one. I also like the adjustable intensity, I haven't really use it for long lengths at a time so I can't tell you about battery life. the only thing I can say bad about it is the shoe holder and the battery cover feels and probably is a bit fragile. must take it easy putting on or taking it off. that's why I give it 4 out of 5 stars. other than that I'm very happy with the purchase. environment

Comments about Bescor Morning Star Series LED-125 Dimmable 125W On-Camera Light:
