many of the cameras and devices i use require my SDXC cards be formatted to exFat(49MBps on my 64GB card) and even thought this is still fast i found that reformatting to NTFS added 30MBps to read speed nearly reaching 80MBps with less than a MS access time, after formatting to NTFS I installed windows 7 onto my 64GB SDXC card and reduced boot time by about 12 seconds over my 5200RPM drive, loading seems much faster too. note that internet connection is required to install, driver CD is not included and automatic driver search does not work, you need to access the company's download page specific for this device.

Comments about Transcend TS-RDF1 ExpressCard Reader:

Combined with Teracopy this has cut my import time to a fraction of what it used to be.

With a mechanical HDD and Sandisk Extreme 16gb 45mb/s, I now average 39/34mb/s read and write, peaking at 46/42mb/s.

This is based form a freshly formatted, in camera, card. Then copying 750 D7000 files, approx 15.5GB to and from the card.

I can now copy and verify files quicker than previously just copying them. Total peace of mind.

Using this card reader is very simple -- just install the driver and plug it in! The only issue I had was that the web link given in the user manual was inaccurate. Enjoy this product! It does exactly what its supposed to -- very fast sdhc transfer speeds.

I bought this card reader for a MacBook Pro running OS Lion. I downloaded the Mac driver from the Transcend web site but I haven't been able to get the computer to recognize the reader. I suspect the driver is not up to date for Lion but I don't really know. Other than it not working, it is a perfect fit in the slot and with an SD card it is still flush with the side.

This is an excellent reader, solidly built, and a bargain at the price. 100% recomended, order it today... you'll be glad you did. 5 HUGE stars. It is the ONLY ExpressCard reader that I am aware of (as of June 2012) that will do FULL SPEED transfer of memory cards in the ExpressCard slot (up to 480Mb/s), other readers are USB 2.0 speeds (60Mb/s) at best. This means ultra-fast transfers of data (depending on your card speed) when compared to USB 2.0, which most of us are usually stuck with for SD card data management. The reader fits flush with the side of my MacBook Pro, so it can be left in the machine and not even noticed (see pics in another review here). It boots with the computer and is ready to use exactly like any standard card slot. The reader does not come with the drivers that you will need to run it, nor does it really mention you need them except in the fine print, but you can download them free.

I was excited to see a cheap adapter to use my SD cards in my Sony EX1, so I gave this a try. Camera said "media not recognizeable", so it's back to paying more for an adapter than the SD memory. I paid the restocking fee so you don't have to. You're welcome.

Comments about Transcend TS-RDF1 ExpressCard Reader:

My laptop has a built in SD card reader. However, when I bought my new Nikon P7000, I got an 8GB SDHC card, which my laptop could not read. There are other USB type card readers that would do the same task, but I wanted to keep my desk clutter free and bought this ExpressCard reader to keep it internal. I guess it's supposed to read faster, but I don't have anything to compare it with, but it's quick enough. RAW images from the P7000 are 15MB, so it's nice.

Only downside is the it's a 34mm card and my PC slot is 54mm so there is a hole in my PC. Wish it had a fill cap or something.

Comments about Transcend TS-RDF1 ExpressCard Reader:

As of the end of 2011, this is about the only reader that will run your SDXC and UHS-1 (and some of the faster SDHC) cards at full speed. The problem with virtually every reader on the market right now is that it uses USB2 which is painfully slow and seriously hobbled by poor driver support in Windows. (I can't comment on this issue in Linux or Macs)

Anyway, to achieve full performance from any of the faster recent cards, you will need this reader plugged into the Express Card (PCIe for external devices) your laptop. Fortunately, it's not at all expensive. The only caveat is that before you can use it you'll need to download a driver for your OS from Transcend's web site, which is kind of a slow clicky nuisance. But the end result is worth it. For the first time, you'll see what your SD card speed *really* is, and very likely stop complaining that the card isn't as fast as the manufacturer claimed.

Note: ExpressCard is NOT THE SAME as the older CardBus (etc) notebook expansion slots. Make sure you have the right type.

Summary: Good job, Transcend. Good product at a good price.

Comments about Transcend TS-RDF1 ExpressCard Reader:

So far working great with my 17" Macbook Pro running OS X 10.6.8.

Downloading from Sandisk Extreme Pro 16Gb SDHC UHS-1 45MB/s cards, is WAY faster than USB2.0 Sandisk Reader. I don't have any SDXC cards right now.

The express34 card sits completely flush, feels very secure when clicked into place. This card requires *drivers* for the laptop to recognize-available on Transcend's website. I would say this is a 'Con', but that is inherint in the Express34 interface, and not really the fault of the Transcend product.

It uses the JMicron JMB38X chipset. Driver/kext v1.5.0 is 64bit and Universal (PPC/Intel). Can't confirm, but will assume it is 10.7 Lion compatible...
