Ok bought it for a secondary monitor for my RED Scarlet. Does not work. Others have the same problem. There is not fix for this, it's just incompatible. On a side note, comparing to a Marshall LCD50 or LCD51 this thing is... Junk. The image has a crystal type reflection to the pixels and does not accurately show an image. It's hard to explain, but I guess that's what you get for spending so little. With that said, spend just $[$] more and get the Marshall and you'll see a HUGE difference in quality and features. Also: the Marshall is 800x480, the ikan is 800x480... You would think they would be somewhat similar in perceived resolution, since they have the same pixel count right? Nope. The Marshall looks to have 2x the resolution as the ikan. Save yourself the time and money in the long run, spend the extra cash and get something else. Even for DSLR use, the image is quite lacking.

I have been in the market for a 5" field monitor to use it along with my 7" field monitor via my 5D mark ii 15mm rig. The iKan monitor is super light weight, and very portable. The ability to receive a battery plate is a huge plus so I can share my LP-E6 between the camera and screen
However, the unit takes way too long to boot from off to on, it also goes into blue screen when activate live mode for about 5-6 seconds, and the worst is go from live mode to recording takes another 5-6 seconds in the blue which prolong recording drastically. It might not sounds like a lot, but when you are out filming, especially if you doing anything remotely ENG, it is a huge damper and I will not recommend this at all.
It also lacks flip features if you are shoot with a shoulder right or worst a GlideCam or SteadiCam. The screen also has a different full screen crop in live mode than recording mode. Peaking focus assist is a nice feature to have in mind, but it was so generalize that I won't even trust it anymore to get on the fly.
Screen contrast is good, but saturation out of the box is much higher than the 5D screen, so it will takes some dialing in before you can match what you are seeing.
Minor flaw is the lack of a 3.5mm headphone jack for monitor and play back.
It really is a portable device and I want to give it a higher score so bad, but I simply just can't. Function was too generic and built quality is not excellent. I don't think it's worth 35% more money than it's competitors.

I bought this monitor recently and I found the dslr scaling does work and there is full frame image on ikan VL5 but somehow ikan does not announce this improvement. It helps focusing a lot.I found the color of VL5 screen can be tuned close to that of the 5D2's LCD screen by just reduce the saturation. The most shortcoming of VL5 I think is the blink, or say delay in display image when one start recording and the delay is about 3 seconds. During the blink you can do nothing to track your target or do focusing. Fortunately this problem can be solved by using the firmware Magic Lantern that fix the HDMI output at 480 i/p.

Just know Ikan released the new 5" HDMI monitor and order it once B&H have stock, super fast delivery, I order it on Friday (9/9) and got the parcel on Monday morning (12/9).
First of all, this is the 3rd field monitor that I bought for my 5D2. I got a 9" and a 7" but found them still too heavy and too big, no matter used as handheld mounted on camera, or mounted on a shoulder rig (I got a CPM bulldog). Then I looking for a 5" monitor, and I tried the SONY CLM-V55 in their showroom, it's really similar to the IKAN VL5, nicely built, light weight but the image distortion is really serious when using on 5D2. The aspect ratio is not right when pushing record.
Anyway, this IKAN VL5 shown full-screen image on their website, but THEY DIDN'T SHOWN ON USING A 5D2. The image still isn't in full-screen on the preview mode, it's just like 4" size when you hit the Live View button on 5D2. When you hit the record button, there's 3-4 sec delay to show the image back, it has long delay as my 9" & 7" monitor. Besides, the image is even smaller when you hit the record button (it's better if you press the info button on 5D2 until there's no Iris/ Shutter speed/ ISO info on the screen, looks bigger). But it's still better than SONY CLM-V55, at least the IKAN VL5 doesn't have wired image distortion which made the object too narrow or too wide. And the LP-E6 adaptor plate wasn't built good enough, you must use a little bit force to push to into the monitor, coz the hook on the monitor and the hole in the plate doesn't fit really well.
Finally, you can't expect this one as good as Marshall or Small HD, coz the IKAN VL5 is really reasonable, it's only US$299 which is the same as SONY CLM-V55 but the image quality is even better than SONY.
