The 3 Legged Thing X1.1a Adrian 5-Section Aluminum Alloy Tripod with AirHed 1 Ball Head (Black) is a stylish and extremely compact travel tripod system that features a removable, reversible center column. With the ball head attached to the tripod, this column helps the system extend to a maximum height of 59.8" and retract to a very small 20.5" folded length. Fitting in any airline carry-on bag, the X1.1a Adrian system is a supremely versatile professional camera support.

The X1.1a Adrian's legs are composed of aircraft-grade T6061 aluminum alloy for a supreme balance of light weight, sturdiness, and durability – the tripod system weighs just 3.9 lb and supports up to 17.6 lb, to accommodate any DSLR with most lenses.

One of the tripod legs unscrews to become a monopod. The center column is both removable and reversible to accommodate shooting from the lowest of low angles.

Leg angles can be set at three different positions; at their widest and with the column removed, the AirHed 1's camera plate sits only 8.8" from the ground. (The camera can also be attached directly to the tripod for a minimum height of 4.9".) The X1.1a Adrian's leg angles can be set independently to support stable shooting on uneven surfaces.

The AirHed 1 is a sturdy aluminum alloy ball head that features separate control knobs for pan lock, tilt lock, and Arca-style clamping of the included quick-release plate. There's also a tension control built into the tilt-lock knob.

The plate is compatible with BlackRapid's R-Strap camera slings, by way of its FastenR-T1 camera screw. The 1/4"-20 camera screw's flip-up D-ring allows you to tighten it to your camera easily. This ring allows you to attach your camera to an R-Strap and quickly move it from around your neck or shoulder to the AH1 head without removing the sling.

Titanium mounting plate with grub screw locators to bolt on the head
Includes hook for hanging a counterweight from the center column, for extra stability in windy conditions
The X1.1a Adrian's rubber feet are removable (spiked feet are available separately)
Twist locks for leg stages
Bubble level on chassis, and two on head

I wanted to move up from my $5 cheap & plastic tripod, and boy did this do the trick. It is sturdy without being heavy - and this is the most important task that a tripod must perform. My OM-D EM5 rides atop this thing without shake or jitter.

The construction is a little flakey, not literally, but there are a few rough edges here and there and you can tell that this was a Gen 1 product; especially in the ball head which I am going to guess is greatly improved in the updated version.

The legs are quick to lock and unlock, but occasionally I have been surprised by a leg extending when I thought I had it locked, so that isn't a great feature. The ball head does occasionally twist loose when I'm attempting to pan, and thats not a great thing either. Both of those are minor inconveniences. Upon exerting a lot of pressure on the tightened ballhead, I can get it to shift position. Not what i was expecting after watching the video 3LT has on their website about the lockiness of the airhed. But that is only under much more pressure than my dainty camera and lenses will ever exert.

Lets end with some positives, there are many:
      -Great sturdiness
-Amazing case! Seriously, this is a feature!
      -Great ballhead
      -Arca-swiss compatible
      -Seriously good looking
      -light weight, folds smallish

(Side note... not that it matters but the case quality was disappointing too. Loose thread is all throughout the inside and the top pocket containing the tool kit. The zipper is dainty and constantly getting stuck)

Comments about X1.1a Adrian 5-Section Aluminum Alloy Tripod with AirHed 1 Ball Head (Black):

My current gear is Nikon D7000 with Nikon battery pack, and Sigma 10-20mm f3.5 and Nikon 35mm f1.8.I needed a tripod to advance my photography capabilities... But, when I went through many of the tripods with above average ratings on their reviews, their price range was WAY too high for me. So, I decided to give up on getting a good quality tripod and I just narrowed my research to tripods that were under $200. As I was researching through, this 3LT tripod popped up! With the decreased price due to it being the 1 gen. of its kind, it was just perfect for my needs! It had the quality that I was looking for and as well as the price point that I was comfortable. I paid $[$]! Since I don't have any of the big and heavy pro gears, Adrian was more than capable of handling my D7000. Especially with the versatilities that this tripod has, its an awesome piece of an equipment!

When I first opened up the package, I was a bit disappointed. The fit and finish of it really isn't all that impressive. Little nicks and imperfections here and there. Granted, after a long time of use, it'll look like that anyways, but a new product shouldn't arrive like that. Functionally, it performs very well. Light and stable. I took it up to the hills yesterday where there were very strong winds. Without anything to weight it down, the tripod stood well and I got some decent shots. I got this on sale, so it's worth it. However, I'd think twice before paying the normal price.

I wrote a review a few months ago saying I was having some problems. However, after contacting 3 Legged Thing, all of the problems have been resolved. After the issues were fixed, this tripod is amazing, and I have no regrets buying this tripod. 3 Legged Thing sent me new washers to fix the loose legs at no cost to me, and the washers arrived pretty quickly. Even if you buy a tripod from these guys and something is wrong, 3 Legged Thing addresses the problem quickly, and makes sure that their customers are happy.

The tripod is quite sturdy for its size and weight, it handles my d800 with 70-200 2.8 with no problem. The included bag is good quality, but it fits a bit tight, causing the tripods rubber grips to catch on the side, and come loose. I have been able to put them back on so far, but time will tell how big of a problem it will be. To sum up, great tripod, poor fitting bag.

I was really excited for this tripod. When it finally came, I tore the box open, and put the tripod in a bunch of different positions. Everything seemed great, until I realized the legs keep coming loose. I didn't think it was that big of a deal, because they include allen wrenches, so you can tighten them back up. However, every time I tighten them back up, they just come loose again. I wasn't sure if this was just the way they were suppose to be, or if there was something wrong, so I looked it up online, and sure enough, I'm not the only person having this issue. Apparently, the tripod is under warranty, but I read some people were having issues with 3 Legged Thing following through with their warranty in an efficient and polite manner. The tripod would be fantastic if it weren't for the problem with the legs being loose. I love the tripod, and if 3 legged thing comes through for me, I'll update the rating, but until then, I can't help but give them one star. If they end up being difficult and don't replace my tripod, I'll be sure to stay away, because it seems like they have some issues with quality control.
