The 3 Legged Thing AirHed 1 Magnesium Alloy Ball Head (Black) is a stylish head for a DSLR or film camera that encourages precise adjustments and fast setup changes. Composed of an aircraft-grade T6061 magnesium alloy, the sturdy head supports loads up to 17.6 lb, so it's suitable for all cameras and most lenses.
The AH1 head features a robust knurled knob that operates the Arca-style quick-release clamp. Additional knurled knobs manipulate the ball head's pan lock and ball/tilt lock. The pan-lock knob features an inset tension control that affects the play of the ball's movement.
The included quick-release plate, also magnesium, is compatible with BlackRapid's R-Strap camera slings, by way of its FastenR-T1 camera screw. The 1/4"-20 camera screw's flip-up D-ring allows you to tighten it to your camera easily. This ring allows you to attach your camera to an R-Strap and quickly move it from around your neck or shoulder to the AirHed 1 without removing the sling.

First off I have to say that 3LT makes some of the coolest looking products out there. It is a cool creative brand with great ideas... but the build quality and usability are not up to par with there branding and marketing.I bought the AirHed mainly because if the plate. It is the fist Arca-Swiss style plate that works well with a Black Rapid strap. The plate mounts to most other Arca-Swiss style systems except for that it does not stop it from slipping side to side. As for taking other Arca-Swiss style plates... You have to remove the pin that prevents side to side movement to keep other plates from getting stuck. This meant I would have to replace all my plates with 3LT plates. As for the build... the head is solid but only holds just under the weight limit it advertises. The machining is not perfect or as precise as I expected but does not effect the performance. They have stickers on the ends of all the knobs covering the screw holes. The stickers on the knobs made it feel cheap. One of the stickers fell off as I pulled it from the bag it was packaged in. I used the head for about a two weeks, never taking the plate off until I was on a hike. I went to switch the plate from my 5D to my 645 and as I took the plate off all the rubber grip stuck to the bottom of my camera and not the plate. This was a minor thing but the final nail in the coffin for the AirHed.I returned the head to B&H without any problems.I tried contacting 3LT multiple times via emails and even on there Facebook but got no response other than when I posted that I ordered there product. I very well might have gotten a defective head but I didn't have the time to give them another go right now and really wished they would have gotten back to me.I really hope the quality of there products gets better. I really badly wanted to like it. But for the price I expect a tool that is built well and lasts. All in all... Great branding and marketing ... great ideas... not so great as a tool.I used this with:Canon 5D, 7D,Pentax 6x7, and Mamiya 645 Pro.

I am a professional HDR photographer and the tripod and head is extremely crucial to my photography. This is by far the best tripod head I have ever owned. The camera can be taken off the tripod very quickly. The movement on the head is very fluid and it only takes a very small turn of the knob to tightening it down. I have already used this head on numerous shoots I have not experienced any slippage at all. This is by far the best tripod head I have ever owned.
