Replaced portable CD player which was always skipping, pausing, acting-up and burdensome to carry (with CD's and carry case). Now have over 150 albums(& room for more)plus created playlists and favorite bookmarked tunes from which to choose when running, walking, working-out or completing boring tasks(see below) or any solo-task. Handsomely packaged in a thin, lightweight, well-made player, that slips easily into shirt/pants pocket or fannypack. Smaller than my wallet and just as easy to carry. Other colors are available but we chose their 'blue' which is actually a delightful Aquamarine color/pattern!!! And with an inexpensive >$10< auxiliary cable it plugs into our boombox stereo(for the deck/patio) and sounds impressively clear with rockin' bass, discernible highs and clean mid-range variation. Plays all day!! Shopped around and bought it at B&H for bestprice. ONLY drawback(not B&H's fault)is that Sony doesn't make an equally impressive Speaker/Base for it like they do for the i-pod (same as everyone else). So use an Aux. cable and any boombox with an aux input. Very pleased with sound and 'use'-ability.P.S. SONY includes small/med/Lg earbuds to fit your most comfortable size. Easy to do.

Well, I liked this player, good sound, until it suddenly was stuck in the "hold" mode. No matter what I would do, even resetting or updating the firmware, it still remained in hold mode making the unit useless. Piece of junk

This player has good sound quality and battery life. The main problem is the awful constructio. Buying these is a waste of money. I have bought three of the, and now none of them work perfectly. All has the same problem, that i can't charge them. It is a big problem for me and for everyone who wants to use the player more then once.

We now own *3* of these units (mine is the step up 16 gig version, but basically the same). The other two units belong to our 7 and 9 year old. I spend 2.5 solid days researching mp3 players, iPod Nanos (5th and 6th generation), and iTouches. I learned a lot.
