When you are doing the controls on the camera, inevitably, it becomes jerky. This makes a much better end result, much, much smoother. Would never work without it now that I have it.

That said, I have had a few times where it seemed to lock up and not work. Restarting the camera seemed to fix this. Even so, it's well worth having.

I use this with the Canon XF300. All functions work perfectly. I like the variable zoom and the fact that you can adjust the maximum speed. I have 2 minor issues. Since it is a Pan Bar remote you need to change the Pan Bar on the tripod head. I have a 504 head that has a 2 part bar allowing for extension. Unfortunately this feature is lost with this bar. It would also be nice if the iris buttons lit to make it easy to find in the dark. Minor complaints for a great product.

I use this product as a part of the Manfrotto - Deluxe Blackmagic Cinema Tripod Bundle B&H Kit which is a great touch when shooting with multple cameras like at a concert. However not all functions work (in my case the iris does not change) with all cameras so be careful about making sure your camera works with this unit. I knew this feature probably wouldn't work with my particular camera ahead of time so it really wasn't a factor.

Also, the variable zoom speed does not alter the speed that the camera is built for (ie.: it doesn't slow it down slower than the built-in settings of the camera). Most camera professionals would probably say "duh" but for someone getting into the business wouldn't know this fact.

A pleasant surpise factor not in the descriptions, is the zoom control - when turned off and the auto focus is set to manual (on the sides of the handle) - allows you to blur out at the rate of speed that is set with the zoom speed knob at the top of the controls. NICE!

I use this remote control with my Canon XF105 camera and it's so easy, no more messing around with touching the camera directly causing shaking of the images.

It's precise and adjustable in every way I decide.

It is and feels very solid and well adapted for the human hands. I installed it on the Manfrotto tripod 546B with MVH502A head. Great combination.

When post-producing, the steadiness of the image increased my workflow with "speed/duration" because everything was shoot at a constant speed. No more feeling dizzy watching the film.

Here with the Canadian winter, I don't freeze my hands anymore, I can operate the remote with mittens...

I would for sure buy it again.

It's not a gadget, it's a necessity!

This is a great device and, if it fits your tripod, you'll be glad you have it. Sadly, the sprockets didn't match the Magnus tripod I ordered at the same time (the bolt was too large to swap it from the Magnus Arm) ... consequently, with no other option, I had to exchange it for the "Monfrotto Clamp On" version which is significantly cheaper and lacks that comfortable, solid feel that this LANC has. Upgrading the tripod to a Monfrotto might have been a better but more expensive solution.

I bought it to use with a Canon XF300 and it works wonderfully well. You can adjust it to zoom at any rate you want. There are no lurches, jerks, stops. At one point, I accidentally adjusted it too low and I thought it wasn't working. Instead, it was just creeping in so softly that I couldn't see it moving. But that gives you a sense of how smoothly it operates. Terrific product.

Finally a remote pan bar for my LANC that works 100% on both my SONY main cameras. This was purchased for my SONY NXCAM NX5U and all functions work flawlessly. PLUS it works 100% with my Sony HVR-Z5U as well. GREAT WORK MANFROTTO! Thanks! ALWAYS PLUG IN FIRST THEN POWER UP CAMERA ! !

I use this product with the Sony FX7 and the NX5U. The zoom response time with the FX7 is immediate. The NX5U zoom response is about 1 sec delayed so it takes a sec to start the zoom. I do like that the remote is built into a handle. I keeps the bulk to a minimum. I like the iris adjustments as well as the on the fly auto focus and manual switch to adjust focus via zoom rocker control.

Plugged it in and turned on camera. ALWAYS do it in that order! It was recognized in a few seconds and everything worked! I was amazed at how slow it can zoom in and out. You can control focus with the same ring with a turn of a switch. It's a perfect fit with the 504HD head and the ever so cool 536 legs from Manfrotto. It can also control exposure f-stops one at a time in one second intervals...a little slow but at least it works with the NXCAM. Very happy so far. Has the one push quick focus that works too with the NX5U. Long time waiting form a lanc that all functions work 100% that doesn't cost a fortune and it looks great with the 504 head and legs! Excellent choice for very controllable pan and tilts. I use it for the Canon XF300. Some of the operational features of the Remote Control do not translate to the camera, but it controls on/off, record/stop.

This remote is awesome...the zoom is smooth and you can adjust the speed separately....Irs, manual/auto focus, start and stop and even power the camera on or off from the handle.

Use the LANC to zoom HVR-Z1U while recording weddings, briefings, training.

Good: LANC allows me to zoom my Z1U.

Bad: LANC disabled auto-focus; had to manually focus a 2 hour briefing.
