Questions? Ask our experts:

Sony's Alpha NEX-7 Digital Camera with 18-55mm Lens is an extremely high 24.3Mp resolution camera with the aforementioned lens included. You can start shooting from day one with this combo, the 18-55mm lens of course being just one of the numerous lens options you have for this Sony E-Mount compatible camera. Non-Sony lenses are compatible with the camera as well using an optional adapter.

Known for their compact size, versatility, and interchangeable lens feature Sony's NEX cameras are a digital revolution in the photo world. You can shoot creatively without being worn down by a heavy DSLR rig. In addition, you can also capture 1920 x 1080p HD video, another hallmark of the genre. No matter what you're shooting however, video or stills, the camera's APS-C sensor and the BIONZ image processor work together to help create rich, clear, and incredibly detailed results.

The NEX-7 also features the Tru-Finder OLED electronic viewfinder. This eye-level finder gives you that same old-school feeling and all the benefits of shooting through a viewfinder - less glare and distraction. The OLED also lets you see the results of adjustments in real time as well. Of course, the camera also sports a tiltable 3.0" Xtra Fine LCD screen. The LCD features Sony's TruBlack screen which suppresses internal reflections.

Expanding the tools in your arsenal for the NEX-7 would be the built-in pop-up flash. Take clean, blur-free photos even in low-light situations. The camera also accepts other Sony Alpha system flashes and flash accessories thanks to the hot shoe.

The many shooting functions and modes of the NEX-7 give you the means to express your creativity in numerous ways as well. While the many interchangeable lens options provide a major advantage, features like Sweep Panorama, 3D Sweep Panorama, and Object Tracking help make taking great photos a breeze. And Auto HDR improves your photos by combining highlight and shadow detail from multiple shots for the best possible contrast and detail. Additionally, like those big DSLR's the NEX-7 also puts Program, Aperture, Priority, Shutter Priority, and Manual functions at your fingertips, along with many other creative options.

DSLR Quality in Your Pocket
Here's the same APS-C sensor size as a DSLR, with higher resolution than most DSLRs and the interchangeable lenses that make DSLRs so attractive. Yet the camera is about half the size and weight of a typical DSLR camera. Removing the conventional mirror box and viewfinder makes it possible
24.3Mp Resolution
You get incredible detail and gorgeous enlargements thanks to a 24.3 megapixel sensor. It's the highest resolution among pocket cameras as of August 2011
OLED Viewfinder
There's never been anything quite like the Tru-Finder OLED electronic viewfinder. For size, speed and brightness even after sunset, this is a gem. This eye-level, through-the-lens, viewfinder begins with 2359K dots for amazing resolution and high contrast ratio for incredible depth. OLED reduces motion blur to a bare minimum. You can also see the results of camera adjustments in real time with superb color and detail
Up to 10 Frames Per Second Shooting
Capture the decisive moment in sports and get the ideal baby photo. Up to 10 fps continuous shooting at full 24.3Mp resolution with exposure and focus fixed at the first frame. Standard continuous shooting at up to 2.5 fps
DSLR-Class APS-C Image Sensor
Sensor size is the key to picture quality. The APS-C class sensor provides gorgeous imaging with 58% more area than Micro Four-Thirds sensors and an amazing 13 times the area of a point & shoot image sensor
Full HD Movies at 60p/60i/24p
Capture HD Movies in your choice of super-smooth 60p, standard 60i or cinematic 24p, all at Full HD 1920 x 1080 resolution. AVCHD codec delivers stunning picture quality. MP4 codec offers smaller files for easier upload to the web. Sound can be recorded via the built-in stereo microphone or through the use of an external microphone when connected via the standard mic input
HD Movies with Full Manual Control
Now you don't need to surrender control when you shoot HD movies. Enjoy the full expressive potential of Program, Shutter Priority, Aperture Priority or Manual (P/A/S/M) control in HD movie mode
Tri-Navi Manual Control
Perfect for experienced shooters, Tri-Navi control gives you three separate control dials for direct, hands-on access to three settings at a time. As just one example, the dials can set aperture, exposure compensation and ISO
Built-In Pop-Up Flash
Enjoy the convenience of flash photography everywhere you go. Guide Number 6
Hot Shoe for Alpha System Flashes
Take your photography even further with access to the entire range of Sony Alpha system flashes and flash accessories
Accepts A Mount Lenses Via Adapters
Both the LA-EA1 and EA2 adapters (sold separately) allow you to attach the full range of Sony A mount lenses
Phase Detect AF with Adapter
The LA-EA2 lens mount adaptor (sold separately) is the world's first with Sony's award-winning Translucent Mirror Technology. This provides super-fast and accurate Phase Detection AF when used with Sony A mount lenses
Tiltable 3.0" LCD
Sony's 3.0" Xtra Fine LCD monitor has 921K dots for superb resolution. The TruBlack screen includes a special resin layer to suppress internal reflections, increasing contrast compared to conventional LCDs. Sunny Weather mode boosts visibility even further. Tilts down 45° and up 80° to frame high- and low-angle shots that would otherwise be hit-or-miss
Object Tracking AF
Locks onto a specified object and maintains focus even as the subject moves. Unpredictable subjects stay in focus even while zooming. You can concentrate on composition without worrying about focus
World's Shortest Release Time Lag
Helps ensure that the image you want is the image you get. Once auto focus occurs, release time lag is the delay between fully pressing the shutter release and when the camera actually starts taking the picture. Long lag makes it harder to capture fast-moving objects. The Sony NEX-7 boasts the shortest release time in the world (as of August 2011) at only 0.02 seconds
Accepts Sony E-Mount Lenses
Compatible with Sony's expanded line of E Mount lenses. These smaller, lighter lenses are specifically designed for Alpha compact interchangeable lens cameras. Opens up a world of creative options
Peaking Function
Manual focus becomes much easier because peaking highlights the edges that are in focus in your choice of three colors (white, red, or yellow). This is especially helpful during macro or portrait photography where your focus setting can make or break your shot
3D Sweep Panorama Mode
Capture vast scenic vistas and 16:9 shots in spectacular 3D. As you sweep across the panorama, the camera records separate right-eye and left-eye images that make landscapes come alive on your 3D television7. Records both JPEG and MPO file formats
Sweep Panorama Mode
Capture expansive landscapes automatically. Press the shutter, sweep vertically or horizontally. The camera does the rest, continuously shooting images and stitching them together
6-Image Layering
Leverages the fast BIONZ processor to capture six images in a fraction of a second, and then combine the data. The result is an incredible single image that controls blur in Anti-Motion Blur mode or gets cleaner, sharper nighttime pictures in Hand-held Twilight mode
Auto HDR
High Dynamic Range (HDR) photography captures more scene contrast than a single exposure can handle by combining the best highlight detail from one shot and the best shadow detail from another for one incredible shot
P/A/S/M Modes for Video and Stills
Enjoy a full range of controls for video and still shooting from the beginner's iAUTO mode to P/A/S/M: Program, Aperture Priority, Shutter Priority and Manual. On-screen prompts help you refine your skills, build your confidence and exercise greater creative control
Intelligent Auto Focus
Pre-focuses as you compose the shot, further reducing focusing time to a bare minimum
iAUTO Mode
Unifies and simplifies Sony intelligent technologies. Takes advantage of Intelligent Scene Recognition, Face Detection technology, and Optical SteadyShot image stabilization without leaving auto mode so you always get the best shot
BIONZ Image Processor
The brain of the camera is a Sony's BIONZ image processor substantially upgraded for the demands of 24.3 megapixel photography. Chroma noise reduction delivers high-resolution, low-noise photos even at ISO 16000 sensitivity. Also enables fast processing for up to 10 fps continuous shooting of data-intensive 24.3Mp images, 2D/3D Sweep Panorama modes and 6-image layering
Dynamic Range Optimizer (DRO)
Improves results with backlit subjects and recovers details hidden in shadows. Settings include Auto, Level with a choice of five operating levels and Off
Accepts Non-Sony Lenses Via Adapter
You can use the camera with a universe of lenses from Canon, Nikon, Leica, Olympus and others. The success of Sony's NEX series, combined with the ultra-short 18mm flange back distance has inspired third-party manufacturers to provide lens adaptors. In addition, Sony has disclosed the E Mount specification to Carl Zeiss, Cosina, Sigma and Tamron
25-Point Auto Focus
25 sensors cover a very wide area of the scene, for accurate focusing even when the subject is far from the center of the frame
HDMI Output
Enjoy HD movies and stunning still images on a compatible HDTV. The camera includes an HDMI output
Stamina Battery Power for Up to 400 Shots
Take up to 400 shots on a single charge with Sony lithium ion Stamina battery power (using LCD monitor). Sony's InfoLITHIUM battery system enables you to see the percent of power remaining, so you can keep shooting in confidence
Sony Exmor CMOS Sensor
Sony Exmor technology uses column-parallel A/D converters for high resolution and high frame rates. Double noise reduction minimizes image noise, even in low light
11 Picture Effect Modes
Discover innovative ways to make your images and videos pop. These include Posterization, Pop Color, Retro Photo, Partial Color, Soft High-key, High Contrast Monochrome, Toy Camera, Soft Focus, HDR Painting, Rich-tone Monochrome, and Miniature
Ultrasonic Anti-Dust System
Dust on the image sensor leads to blemishes in the picture. To protect the sensor, Sony incorporates an advanced ultrasonic system, which effectively shakes dust off the sensor surface

Like many, I have been on the lookout for a high quality small sized camera to augment my Cannon 1Ds MK III, which I use for scenic landscape photography. For a walk around camera I have been using a Canon G-12, which is not bad for its size and weight, but I wanted better, and the NEX 7 delivers. I purchased the camera with the kit lens, and as many have said, it is not the best when compared to "L" type lenses--no doubt!. But that does not mean that it is bad. It just is what it is and is very acceptable for casual use and beyond, if you want to take the time to post sharpen, etc. I will order a bigger Tamron 18-200 to see how that works, but then you are increasing the size and weight of the unit so if that is the primary reason for buying the camera, then it gets closer to a Canon Rebel sized DSLR, and you have to wonder if it is worth it. And that is the quandary with this beautiful camera. With a better lens, is it still good enough to compete with the new Canon Rebel T4i or similar sized DSLR's and have the advantage of a slightly smaller size? On the plus side the camera operates very well. Images are well exposed and the scene mode stuff is really good, even if it is jpeg. For example, the "Handheld Twilight" mode is almost miraculous in its low light ability and clean image. DP Review has done an extensive review of this camera and gave it a Gold Award. Anyone interested in the NEX 7 should check that out. The video is also excellent. There are benefits to the EVF and a few drawbacks as wellsuch as a less clear view as compared to an optical viewfinder, but it is probably the best EVF produced to date. Love the level graphic and live view display. And with light directly hitting the sensor, you will really be surprised how fast your shutter can be. I have found the flash to be problematic, but that may be my fault with exposure comp settings.

I purchased the NEX 7 as an alternative to my 5Dmk2 Canon system for those times when I have to hike long and difficult terrain or I am in an urban situation where I do not wish to "advertise" my gear and still have good hi res files to work with.

In that regard the 7 delivers. Very small and compact, but feels good and is easy to operate even in my large hands. Build quality is very good - excellent.

I also purchased the 55-210 zoom so the kit 18-55 and this give a great spread. However, my walk around for the 5Dmk2 has always been the 24-105 so I am used to getting by with one lens. This two lens approach is a real compromise. I may have to consider the 18-200. Neither of the two lenses I have do the sensor justice. I am used to L glass and these have no pretense to that level of quality. Sony needs to get their act together to make the NEX package a real winner in that regard.

As others have noted, the menu system is deep and somewhat complex. There are "info" windows that pop up every where you go. After the second or third time they get VERY annoying. I did finally stumble onto the setting that turns them off.

In continuous mode the frame rate is rather astonishing and there is no meaningful shutter lag. There are several focusing modes and the auto focus is quite fast.

The biggest disappointment for me is the astonishing lack of useful auto bracketing in RAW. The 7 is presently limited to a preset of .3 or .7 EV in a three shot bracket. REALLY? Makes you wonder if the design team ever talked to a knowledgeable experienced photographer.

I have bracketed 90% of my shooting for years now, (-2, +2) allowing the option for post HDR processing. This is impossible on the NEX 7 except in the manual mode. The likely hood of adjusting the super light 7 for 3, 5, or 7 shots with out disturbing the camera, even on a tripod is a real gamble.

Of course, the 7 brags about its built in HDR. In fairness, it works rather well if your only interest is salvaging details in bright scenes. It fires off three shots so fast there is hardly time for camera movement to become problematic, and you get the 0 EV shot as well as the combined image. If you are happy working with JPG and don't want to do the post HDR yourself, great.

I think the pro and pro - enthusiast demographic this camera appeals to will not be happy with the lack of (real) RAW bracketing, and the huge choices available for in camera "creative" effects are pretty much wasted on those shooters as well.

This particular shortfall is nothing more than an easy change in firmware and I wish upon a star that Sony will smile upon us and release an improved firmware sooner than later. Oh yeah.... and provide some "L" grade zoom lenses for this little beauty too.

I bought this kit as a result of the price drop, not really expecting much. Oh my! On vacation I ended up not using anything BUT this camera for walking around. I have 3 DSLRs and a large sensor point and shoot. This thing really has blown my mind. I'm a Canon guy but I have just fallen in love with the Sony stuff for a carry camera. To me, it's not on par with the DSLR yet because of a ready lack of control on things, such as flash intensity. But... It's just an awesome camera!

Comments about Sony Alpha NEX-7 Digital Camera with 18-55mm Lens (Black):

I work professionally in video production and have several high-end video cameras. I also have a GH2 used mostly for stills by my wife but occasionally by myself for video when looking for the shallow depth of focus look.

I wanted to get a mirrorless that wouldn't cost so much that I would be reluctant to make it my everyday grab-and-go. I also wanted mic input as well as adaptability to a variety of legacy glass such as the Canon FD line. We have a scattering of Canon, Nikon, Olympus/Tokina glass from the days of film. I do enjoy the careful consideration shooting full manual requires.
The NEX-7 met my terms as to cost, adaptibility, and connectibility. I do like the form factor, menu navigation, and the user controls. For myself, it is a quite intuitive camera to use. I especially like the focus peaking feature. Very useful when shooting with the old glass. I have also set up the NEX 7 for use on my Gini Rig with a Rode NTG-2 into a Zoom H4n cabled into the mic input. I can even run the entire rig from an Anton Bauer gold mount. It's that versatility and availability of adapters, plugs, and hardware that I found very appealing.

A few minor qualms: Limiting shoot time to 29 minutes, while not a deal breaker, can cause issues for some of the content I work with. As this camera has been out for a few years, I think it unlikely that a firmware or hack will be available to mitigate that issue (a result of EU taxation or some such nonsense). More shooting modes (ie: frame rate control) would be nice as well. Also, a higher bitrate would make post tweaking much better. But that is more on the video end.

For still photography and using the 18 - 55mm kit lens, the NEX 7 really shines. Even fully auto, one can take great photos with minimal technical knowledge. There are also a decent arsenal of E mount lenses available for most any taste and shooting situation. And, Sony offers the A mount adapter for that wonderful line of lenses.

If you are in the market for a really good and affordable interchangeable lens APSC sensor mirrorless camera, the NEX 7 is a great choice. With the current pricing, for me it was an easy decision.

Comments about Sony Alpha NEX-7 Digital Camera with 18-55mm Lens (Black):

I bought the SONY Nex 7. I already had the Nex 5 but wanted an upgrade. The price was right and I jumped on this purchase. So far I love the camera. I missed not having a view finder and built in flash and now I do. Plus, the camera is slightly lighter which was a nice surprise. There are lots of features to learn about and I am looking forward to learning to use as many as I can.

Comments about Sony Alpha NEX-7 Digital Camera with 18-55mm Lens (Black):

I got this to compliment my Sony A77 for video shoots and it works so well I ordered a second. The only issue is bad overheating with the SanDisk media. Allegedly the remedy is to use the way over-priced Sony memory stick duo which I have ordered but yet to try. But the camera is great and my go-to for stills while hiking or exploring on vacation because of its light weight and ability to capture images that belie its small size. I don't have any comments on the auto focus because I never use if and it is a bit grainy at high ISO, but you can factor that in when adjusting the settings so it hasn't been an issue for me.

Comments about Sony Alpha NEX-7 Digital Camera with 18-55mm Lens (Black):

I purchased this camera in hoping it will be great for photos of my very active 6 year old daughter. Not only does it take great photos but even while in motion it does not blur the picture in regular auto mode. I am still new with it, but I will be trying it out in motion mode this weekend. I honestly love this camera. For a novice still trying to figure all the functions out.

Comments about Sony Alpha NEX-7 Digital Camera with 18-55mm Lens (Black):

I mostly use this for taking a lot of pictures of my kids and cool things I see when walking around downtown, and it's a huge upgrade over my old travel zoom even if the stock lens feels like it's only got a 5x zoom. The pictures it takes are worth it.Love having the two rings for zoom and focus on the lens in addition to the two top dials and the back dial. I can't properly explain how nice/accessible/usable having all the dials and knobs to turn at your disposal makes this. After years of using nice travel zoom cameras (in the [$] range) this feels like a huge step up. Instead of taking minutes to set up a shot through the software controls it now takes seconds. Realistically this means that I can take 2 dozen pictures while rapidly switching settings around to figure out what looks terrible and fine tuning it.Low light photos on this thing are amazing as well. Pictures that are pure black on my cell phone, or smeary grain filled messes on my travel zoom, turn out excellent (it actually looks like what my eyes see when they adjust to the dark!!!) I could also crank the shutter speed down and the ISO up it looks like we had the lights on in there. I also don't really notice the grain on ISO 1600 (it's there, but you have to squint at it).Things that aren't so great. Intelligent Auto captures consistently OK pictures. I mean it's about what I expect from any camera, but once you know what it's capable of, it's rather bland feeling. If I see my kid doing something spur of the moment I can pull this thing out quickly enough and get something that would look great on facebook, but once you look at it full size it's meh. I'd say it's about on par with a really good consumer grade camera. In short photography is hard. I feel like now that I have the power to actually make good decisions about my photos I should actually make them. However figuring out how the camera reacts to outdoors in the shade vs in the sun, city twilight, indoor, night time, back lighting... it's all hard and I feel like I'm constantly searching for that perfect setting for the situation. Intelligent auto feels like giving up, but sometimes you just want to live in the moment instead. Harsh life choices eh?

Comments about Sony Alpha NEX-7 Digital Camera with 18-55mm Lens (Black):

I agree wholeheartedly with the latest review. This camera is excellent and while complex , it is still simple to use once you are familiar with all the really practical and convenient control options. Images are truly excellent with the 18-55 OSS lens . It is also mechanically smoother than any of my Fuji XF lenses and the image quality is very good to excellent at all focal lengths and apertures that I use ...usually up to f11. OSS really works well and the fit and finish are impeccable. The viewfinder falls short of my Fuji XE2 and is very noisy by comparison, but let me say, I don't care because the rest of the camera is such fun and competent in ALL areas. Yes, there is noise in 1600 up but it is not a problem. I think it's minimal . Not as good as Fuji X but it really is a non- issue for me. I also own the Nikon D 7000 and the Canon 6D so you can discern that I love good image quality and fine photographic equipment. This Sony Nex7 is just that, a fine photographic tool that delivers tremendous results and really shames Fuji on the firmware contents. It's not all frills and bells and whistles as Ken Rockwell snidely states. It is a serious photographic tool and I love it! Hope this helps anyone on the fence about buying this camera.

Comments about Sony Alpha NEX-7 Digital Camera with 18-55mm Lens (Black):

At the current fire-sale pricing, the NEX-7 kit is a downright bargain. It might be yesterday's technology, but it is still a very capable camera. In the past, online review sites and blogs made a lot of claims and hot air about noise at high ISO's, along with stating that images wouldn't be sharp due to 24MP resolution and poor Sony lens offerings. Having previously used a NEX-5N, there might be an ever-so-slight high ISO advantage there, but it's certainly no windfall. And while kit lenses can certainly suffer from sample variation (like anything), the 18-55mm included with the NEX-7 is no slouch, either. Overall, this makes a great travel camera setup, yielding some wonderful images. Quick Tip: Using the "Flexible AF Spot" mode results in a smaller focus box, and really helps the CDAF system nail the focus.

Comments about Sony Alpha NEX-7 Digital Camera with 18-55mm Lens (Black):

I had only used Canon DSLRs previous to getting this camera, so I was a little hesitant both coming into the Sony and mirrorless families, but so far I'm loving it. For some reason I had always expected mirrorless cameras to be more difficult to master, and maybe this is just because I've already been exposed to photography, but I'm finding the NEX-7 to be even more user-friendly than my EOS cameras. The double adjustment wheels are brilliant, I've only had it for about two weeks and I'm already finding it easier to do adjustments without looking out of the viewfinder back at my controls. The only downside is the quality of the viewfinder and LCD, I'm used to much clearer previews, but honestly it hasn't seemed to affect the quality of my photos. I got this after it was discontinued by Sony, but it doesn't feel like an old camera. I was torn between this and the newer version (a6000 I think?), but I'm glad I saved the few hundred bucks in difference, because even from what I read there wasn't a huge increase in performance, and I'm not missing the newer features.

This was the beginning of a serious attempt by Sony into Mirrorless cameras. It does have some flaws, the menu for example is a bit confusing at best, but if you want superb photos at what is now a fantastic price, you can't go wrong with this camera.

Comments about Sony Alpha NEX-7 Digital Camera with 18-55mm Lens (Black):

I am not sure why I waited so long to buy a mirrorless camera. I was looking for a camera to take hiking and this camera is perfect. I like to photograph waterfalls and with all the features of my Nikon DSLR I am able to do so. One of the best things is that I can use my Nikon lenses via adapter. I loose auto focus but I usually manual focus anyway and with the focus peaking feature I can see what will be in focus. I also like the two dial control for shutter speed and the other for aperture. I also like photograph using the tillable LCD like a waist level camera and when I get down low I don't have to lay on the ground to focus. It is also very solid and feels good in the hand.
Cons: The dial on the back is easy to turn and find myself sometimes turning it by accident and changing the ISO. Also the video button is easy to push without knowing it also. I don't shoot much video so I disabled the button in the setup menu. It is a battery hog so buy a couple extra batteries.
I hope this review helps someone. Happy Shooting!

Comments about Sony Alpha NEX-7 Digital Camera with 18-55mm Lens (Black):

I bought this as an upgrade to a mirror-less Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ3 as a carry anywhere camera instead of lugging around my Nikon D7000 16-Mp DSLR and all it's lenses. The body is very compact with exceptional build quality. The NEX's basic "3-point" controls are well placed, and not to difficult to understand and use if you have any prior working familiarity with digital cameras. You do, HOWEVER, have to have your "thinking cap on" while using camera since it's very easy to change settings ( ISO, aperture, exposure shift, etc ) without realizing it just by normal handling of camera with your hand and fingers. From the limited shooting I have done so far, the camera takes shots with exceptional dynamic range even without use of it's added HDR capabilities. Even with the Sony supplied zoom lens, image resolution & sharpness is far superior to my older mirror less camera ; with better optics ( Zeiss, Voightlander, etc ) with required lens adapters ( Metabones, Novaflex, Vello, etc. ) I expect NEX-7 to exceed my DSLR's performance. The NEX-7 is a great value now that Sony has discontinued model in favor of it's A7 series, at anywhere from 1/2 - 1/3 of it's original price subject to availability. The big knock on the NEX-7 after it's introduction was the lack of good optics for it - not true anymore. BUY one if you can find one - you won't be disappointed.

A little slow on auto-focus compared to the a6000 but everything else is just fabulous. Definitely an advanced enthusiast camera.
Love the multi dial controls. Build quality is first rate, IQ is excellent.
Even the packaging tells you this is a different camera.
If you can still grab one of these kits at the ridiculously low closeout price, don't hesitate!

Comments about Sony Alpha NEX-7 Digital Camera with 18-55mm Lens (Black):

This is an excellent camera. I bought this to use as my main camera for travels. Will use my current Nex-7 (paid $ two years ago- and worth it) as a backup. It is the best lightweight camera I found which produces quality images. I find it easy to use with manual control options for aperture, speed and ISO. Having used Leica M series, Hasselblad, Nikon and full frame Canon digital cameras, never thought I would consider a non professional camera manufacturer. Turns out Sony makes the chip for most professional cameras. I cannot haul my heavy DSLR kit anymore. Camera in hand is the best camera, and Nex 7 is a breeze to carry. It is lightweight, and I use it with a wrist strap, it even fits in my safari jacket pocket. Image quality at 24 megapixel is good for 20x24 prints. Works well with low light images as well. What is not so great is the range of lenses available. I recently got a Leica adapter and started using my M lenses on this Nex7, presto: I have the best of both worlds. Only gripe is that I cannot use my 21mm M lens. There are no reasonably priced high quality lens that gives this coverage. I may get an Alpha 7 and use a Nikon 20mm for just that occasional need. I do not see advantage of Alpha 7 series (over priced lenses) over this Nex7 which is priced at a steal. B&H must have bought thousands of these and are getting rid of their stock, advantage to us. I have three friends who have bought them at $. You will not find a better camera or deal like this for a long time.

This is a case of waiting a while works out well with technology. At its current price, the Nex 7 is a Steal. Same sensor as many of Sony's newest.

The kit lens is better IMHO than the online reviews suggest. As long as you use ACR, the performance is fine. I wanted a tiny camera that was a step up from an iPhone...this fits my needs wonderfully. Excellent raw files...make film Leicas look ancient. Love it...Love it....Love it.
