Both Apple and Android devices have their pros and cons over the other. But if you are looking for an alternative to Apple, this is your best bet so far. The shape has allowed the S to be a lot more usable. With other tablets I always felt I had to be careful and very mindful of how I held the tablet, or carried it. The weighting of the S, and it's shape, allows the device to be handled much more comfortably and casually... far more stable to carry around. Some complain about the plastic case, but that too adds to usability; increased comfort and grip over the metal covers of other tablets. The dock and charger interface, although proprietary, are ingenious as well. The dock makes the tablet the perfect clock or picture frame when not in use. And no fiddling with plugs.. the tablet just rests in the dock. I wish there were more apps, and more accessories available. I have no hesitation in recommending this tablet to anyone.

I've had a day to play around with the Sony Tablet S, and I think it could become a worthy alternative to the iPad. The "magazine" shape was a great idea. The tablet is more ergonomic than the iPad or Android competitors. You can hold it with your right or left hand, and the screen will rotate to the correct orientation. The screen is as good as anything out there in the tablet world. The touch screen response is good, the colors are superb. Sony has managed to tweak the base Android UI by offering quick access to favorite apps or bookmarks. The overall performance is what you'd expect from a top of the line tablet.

I am still testing apps, however, this tablet has all I need for my use. The size is perfect and it has crystal clear pictures. The only downside would be, it should have a large USB port. I would recommend this item for personal use.

I use it every day for things that I used to do using a PC.
It's a very nice device, but the speakers are not so good and they are localized in a bad position and the tablet does not fit to your hands confortably.

Comments about Sony 32GB 9.4" Tablet S:
The problem with all tablets (apart from the upcoming windows 8 pro ones) including ipad, is they are underpowered. They cannot play any hi def movie, those files have to be stringently compressed. They can barely run the system smoothly. Expect to wait several seconds for apps to start and then don't be surprised if they crash. Browsing the web can be laborious, that coupled with the fact that they cannot play any hi def file raises the issue leaves me questioning the value of tablets in general
The pluses for his device is that it makes a great bedside clock once docked, you can place an SD card straight from a camera and view pictures on a large screen, the remote works well once updated to ICS, and the wedge shape makes a little easier to hold

Comments about Sony 32GB 9.4" Tablet S:
I love sony's 32 g tablet S. Wonderfully designed, I think the "folded" idea is great, certainly for someone with big hands like myself. The quickness of the droid operating system is great. One of the things I find most useful is the qicklink tab allowing for incredibly fast navigation within the tablet. Also have to give a thumbs up to the speakers, they are small but powerful.
One downside of this nice little tablet is the camera. On both the front and back they are lacking in quality. Would also like to see a flash added to the back of the tablet for photos.

Comments about Sony 32GB 9.4" Tablet S:
Our use is e-mail, web browsing, E-reader!! DLNA control of other sony gear (HDTV, BluRay)and travel for picture album showing. The price was right and it meets our needs. I would recommend this product.
Comments about Sony 32GB 9.4" Tablet S:
I feel I did a lot of good research before I selected this tablet. I picked Android so that I would be able to have some features (like Flash) that I cannot get with an iPad. In addition, I appreciate that this tablet is lighter than an iPad and that the wedge shape easily fits in my hand. I have had a lot of fun with the built in applications, such as Pinball and the remote controls. On a down side, I felt I needed to buy an extra one of the proprietary power cords - one for work and one for home (rather than assume I'd always remember to carry it. This did add to the cost, but I can tell you I am glad I did. The wedge shape is wonderful, but some applications assume that I will always hold the tablet in my right hand, which is not true; those applications refuse to rotate. Lastly, some features, like the favorites screen, are not intuitive and I have given up trying to use it. I would suggest that you buy the STM sleeve with strap for quick and easy portability and put a microfiber cloth in the bag (all tablets need regular removal of fingerprints). Overall, I think the postives outweight the negatives, I find myself using my tablet just about every day, and I would recommend this tablet to you.

Updated to ICS within the first hour and have been impressed at every step. If I was forced to find a flaw: it would be with the many stores you have to join to get the movies, books, music and games. It would make more sense to join a "superstore" and then pick and choose what I need. Google drive makes it easy to keep all my work up to date on all devices.

Comments about Sony 32GB 9.4" Tablet S:
I purchased this tablet in December and it is OK BUT has dismal battery life. I tried to compensate by purchasing a 12 volt adapter. SURPRISE! There is none. wished I had purchased a real tablet rather than this poor excuse for one. Sony service has matched the product.
Comments about Sony 32GB 9.4" Tablet S:
1. requires resetting at least twice a week. It locks up and only resetting it will get it to work. It will not even turn off the power after lockup. 2. the browser will close several times during the day, always during use. Trust me that is truley aggravating and is enought to tick me off. 3. the propoirtery power plug is a terrible design. 4. on screen key board is very tempermental and it also pops up when an email is opened. My experience with this sony product is enought to cause not to ever buy a sony product again.
Comments about Sony 32GB 9.4" Tablet S:
Part of my job is to evaluate mobile devices, I've tryed and own several tablets, including iPads, and from all my devices this is the one I use the most and in my desk on its cradle looks great :) First you must be aware that android and iOS are two very different concepts and before evaluating hardware you should know what you want. I won't dig much on this matter just briefly mention that android does have a file system you can manage and thus you will always have a much wider interaction between files and software, while in the iOS may be seen like "islands", it is not necessarily bad, but it gives you two extremely different approaches. My tablet S allows me to take advantage of androids file system by the USB and the SD card ports (a must have for any owner is the not so new SanDisk Ultra II SD Plus, a card that goes straight from my sony's SD card slot directly to any computer USB port making file sharing quick and easy, and if possible a microSD to SD card adapter, just in case). Lots of fun, lots of sony software to make your experience even better, having the IR remote feels like magic, the design is completely different from any other device and even if everybody recalls its plastic feel, everybody keeps looking at it. If I could change only one thing in this tablet that would be the lack of video output (HDMI, VGA, you name it). The only reason I still carry my laptop (or other tablet) to some meetings is because I have to give presentations and I just cant do that from my Tablet S. Minor issues are that it is very difficult to use a stylus on it because you have to press very hard on the screen, you MUST buy a screen protector because this one is much more likely to be scratched than most of the others, probably the lack of gorilla glass -or something like it- has to do with the true black feature, which by the way works excellent and looks great, I read a lot of books on this tablet and it just works great. Another issue is the proprietary power connector, don't know if it has to do with the nice cradle feature, but that made me buy a second adapter because I leave one on the cradle and keep the other with me (you can use the one of the cradle if you wish, but that means connect and disconnect each time you need to take it with you). It doesn't have the best battery performance, but it does fine and that has not been a concern for me. Haven't heard anything official about IceCream on this tablet, but it is perfectly capable of it. If it comes from an official Sony update then it will likely preserve all the nice Sony software, if it doesn't you can find a way to install it if you want, its hardware is perfectly capable, but there will be no guarantee you can keep such software and also some things may not work (I'm particularly concerned about the IR). If you know you want an android device, you wont regret this excellent option, and even if you don't know much about tablets you will be happy with it.

Great Tablet!! Ahead of its time!! I understand the no USB charging, but I can't understand why there is no charger available for the car. With the unique charger plug there is no way to charge the device except from a wall outlet. Sony, this is a must for a portable device!!

I waited quite a while before making this purchase. I have been an avid PDA user for years and really loved the Sony clam shell PDA. As an avid proponent of eBooks I went with the Kindle when it came out but really wanted more. I bought the Fire when it became available but the 7" screen was just not enough. Sony hit it right on the button with this one. The screen size is just right for reading, browsing and watching (at the range I view it it covers the same field of view as my 46" Bravia. Now the bad. Two things. Engineers do not design propietary connectors, marketeers do. I hate that with a passion only a 45 year engineer can. The second thing is Ice Cream sandwich. I expected it before this and with the silence at Sony it may never happen. I hope not.
