The Sony Alpha SLT-A65 DSLR Digital Camera with 18-55mm Lens is a DSLR with a multitude of features, the first of which being the included zoom lens for use right from day one. If you're looking for new and game-changing aspects, the SLT-A65 has them. Sony's Translucent Mirror Technology system is one for starters. This technology allows the camera to both shoot and focus with speed and accuracy by directing light to the image sensor and the Phase Detection AF sensor. Another huge advantage to the camera - perhaps the most notable - is the 24.3Mp APS-C sensor - this gives you the ability to make huge prints and to experience detail that's absolutely outstanding.

What else, you ask? Well, let's see, how do you feel about an OLED viewfinder or shooting at 10 frames per second? How about HD movies with full manual control? Or the ability to utilize Live View with both the viewfinder or the tilt/swivel 3.0" LCD? The SLT-A65 gives you the options you need to take your photos and videos to the next level. When it comes to low-light or night scenes the SLT-A65 doesn't leave you in the dark. The built-in flash allows for spur of the moment or snapshot capture, while the integrated hot shoe lets you add on flashes or other flash accessories.

The camera's APS-C sensor works with the BIONZ image processor to ensure that whatever you're shooting the results are stunning and efficiently processed. These systems also work together to reduce noise and enable fast, continuous shooting such as is necessary to shoot 10 frames per second or for 2D/3D Sweep Panorama modes and 6-image layering.

No matter what you're shooting - video or stills - every file is stored to external memory in one of the two media slots. Dual media slots help you to shoot longer and provide you with the option of storing two different cards at once. Fill one with Memory Stick media perhaps and the other with SD/SDHC/SDXC cards if you feel like it.

Your image making is also afforded flexibility thanks to any of the numerous shooting modes and functions. Full-Time Phase Detection AF, for instance, ensures accurate auto focus no matter how you're shooting - even when in HD Movie and Live View modes. Additionally, Full-Time Live View for the LCD or electronic viewfinder ensures that what you view on the screen is what you'll get on the finished file. That means white balance, focus, depth of field, exposure, and framing all are accurately reproduced.

Other ways that the SLT-A65 enhances and expands your creativity includes a short lag time, Object Tracking AF for keeping moving objects in focus, and Multi-Frame NR for shooting successfully in low-light without a flash. Graphic Display, the Dynamic Range Optimizer, SteadyShot INSIDE Stabilization and a built-in GPS are just a few of the many other ways in which the A65 ensures that a full breadth of creative options is at your disposal each and every time you shoot.

2nd Generation Translucent Mirror Design
Other DSLRs can shoot. Or they can focus with the speed and precision of Phase Detection AF. They cannot do both at once. Sony changes all that with the award-winning Translucent Mirror Technology system. It directs light to both the image sensor and the Phase Detection AF sensor simultaneously
24.3Mp Resolution
You get incredible detail and gorgeous enlargements thanks to an APS-C sensor with 24.3 megapixels
Ultra-Fast Up to 10 Frames per Second Continuous
The translucent mirror makes it far easier to capture the decisive soccer kick or your baby at her absolute cutest. Shoots up to 10 frames per second at full-resolution 24.3 megapixels with continuous auto focus (AE locked after first frame)
OLED Viewfinder
There's never been anything quite like the Tru-Finder OLED electronic viewfinder. For size, speed and brightness even after sunset, this is a gem. It begins with 2359K dots for amazing resolution and high contrast ratio for incredible depth. OLED reduces motion blur to a bare minimum. You can also see the results of camera adjustments in real time with superb color and detail
HD Movies at 60p, 60i, or 24p
Capture spectacular HD Movies. This is the world's first DSLR to offer a choice of super-smooth 60p, standard 60i or cinematic 24p, all at Full HD 1920 x 1080 resolution. You can also record higher quality audio via an external microphone plugged into the microphone jack. AVCHD Progressive codec delivers stunning picture quality. MP4 codec offers smaller files for easier upload to the web
HD Movies with Full Manual Control
Now you don't need to surrender control when you shoot HD movies. Enjoy the full expressive potential of Program, Shutter Priority, Aperture Priority or Manual (P/A/S/M) control in HD movie mode
Full-Time Phase Detection AF
You get fast, accurate auto focus in every mode-even HD Movie and Live View-thanks to Sony's exclusive Translucent Mirror Technology. While Contrast Detection Auto Focus often hunts for correct focus, Phase Detection AF knows exactly where correct focus is, and goes straight for it
Full-Time Live View in LCD or EVF
You can use both the LCD monitor and OLED Electronic Viewfinder for composing shots in Live View. Both provide a what-you-see-is-what-you-get preview of white balance, focus, depth of field, exposure and 100% framing accuracy, plus informative on-screen displays
World's Shortest Release Time Lag
Helps ensure that the image you want is the image you get. Once auto focus occurs, release time lag is the delay between fully pressing the shutter release and when the camera actually starts taking the picture. Long lag makes it harder to capture fast-moving objects. The Sony A65 boasts the world's shortest DSLR release time lag at only 0.05 seconds (as of August 2011)
Object Tracking AF
Locks onto a specified object and maintains focus even as the subject moves. Unpredictable subjects stay in focus even while zooming. You can concentrate on composition without worrying about focus
6-Image Layering
Leverages the fast BIONZ processor to capture six images in a fraction of a second, and then combine the data. The result is one incredible single image that gets a cleaner result in Multi-Frame NR mode or sharper nighttime pictures in Handheld Twilight mode
Multi-Frame NR
Experience incredible low-light shooting without a flash. The camera captures six images in a fraction of a second. Combining the data from all six, it creates a single image with a reduction in noise equivalent to two additional steps of ISO sensitivity. Sensitivity selectable up to ISO 25600
Handheld Twilight Mode
Get gorgeous shots at night without a tripod. Combines six frames into a single image for smooth, low-noise evening shots
Auto HDR Built Into Camera
Captures more scene dynamic range than a single exposure can handle-and more range than photo film. Combines the best highlight detail from one shot, the best mid-tones from a second and the best shadow detail from a third for one incredible shot
3D Sweep Panorama Mode
Capture vast scenic vistas and 16:9 shots in spectacular 3D. As you sweep across the panorama, the camera records separate right-eye and left-eye images that make landscapes come alive on your 3D television. Records both JPEG and MPO file formats
Sweep Panorama Mode
Capture expansive landscapes automatically. Press the shutter, sweep vertically or horizontally. The camera does the rest, continuously shooting images and stitching them together
Shot Result Preview
See the results before you take the shot. This preview takes the guesswork out of camera settings by showing the effects of the aperture, shutter and DRO settings on the depth of field, motion and dynamic range
Tilt-Swivel LCD Screen
Tilt it up or down to frame high and low-angle shots that would otherwise be hit-or-miss. Tilt and swivel under the camera for self-portraits. Finally, the monitor folds flush to the camera with the LCD exposed for shooting or protected for travel
921K Dot TruBlack LCD Screen
Sony's 3.0 inch Xtra Fine LCD monitor has 921K dots for superb resolution. The TruBlack screen includes a special resin layer to suppress internal reflections, increasing contrast compared to conventional LCDs. Sunny Weather mode boosts visibility even further
Main Sensor Quick AF Live View
Combines the fast focus of Phase Detection AF with high quality Live View images right from the main sensor. This is made possible by Sony Translucent Mirror Technology. You get accurate images and 100% framing on the LCD monitor or eye-level viewfinder
ISO 16000 Sensitivity
Incredibly clear low-light pictures without sacrificing detail, made possible by the low-noise Exmor APS HD CMOS image sensor and refined BIONZ image processor
AUTO+ (Advanced Auto) Mode
Get cleaner, more dynamic pictures and fewer missed shots. Unifies and simplifies Sony intelligent technologies. The camera automatically recognizes the correct scene mode
Graphic Display
Clarifies the relationship between aperture and shutter speed, as well as the effect each has on photographic results
Upgraded BIONZ Image Processor
The brain of the camera is a Sony's BIONZ image processor substantially upgraded for the demands of 24.3 megapixel photography. Chroma noise reduction delivers high-resolution, low-noise photos even at ISO 16000. Also enables fast processing for up to 10 fps continuous shooting of data-intensive 24.3 MP images, 2D/3D Sweep Panorama modes and 6-image layering
Dynamic Range Optimizer (DRO)
Improves results with backlit subjects and recovers details hidden in shadows. Settings include Auto, Level with a choice of five operating levels and Off
1200-Zone Exposure Metering
Reads exposure directly from the main image sensor. Choice of Multi, Center and Spot metering accommodates a full range of shooting situations
SteadyShot INSIDE Stabilization
Image stabilization reduces blur by compensating for camera shake. Typical DSLR systems build image stabilization into selected lenses only. SteadyShot INSIDE image stabilization is built into the camera body itself. You'll reduce blur with every A Mount lens, including macro and wide-aperture standard zoom lenses
HDMI Output for HD Viewing
Enjoy HD movies and stunning still images on a compatible HDTV. The camera includes an HDMI output. In addition, the BRAVIA Sync system works with compatible Sony BRAVIA HDTVs enabling you to control camera playback using the television's remote
Up to 560 Shots of Battery Life
Take up to 560 shots on a single charge with Sony Stamina battery power. Sony's InfoLITHIUM battery system enables you to see the percent of power remaining, so you can keep shooting in confidence
P/A/S/M Exposure Modes
The camera offers a full range of controls from the beginner's AUTO+ mode to P/A/S/M: Program, Aperture Priority, Shutter Priority and Manual. On-screen prompts help you refine your skills, build your confidence and exercise greater creative control
Advanced Anti-Dust Technology
Anti-Dust Technology helps keep the CMOS sensor clean, resulting in consistently clear pictures. First a static-free coating on the sensor's low-pass filter helps repel dust. Then vibration automatically dislodges dust from the sensor
Built-In Flash (GN12)
To help you shoot more effectively, the camera includes a built-in flash (Guide Number 12) that can also trigger a wireless accessory flash (sold separately). The integrated hot shoe enables you to expand your lighting options with a range of accessory flashes
Slot for Two Media Types
For cost-effective, convenient storage and sharing of your images, the camera accepts Memory Stick PRO Duo/Memory Stick PRO-HG Duo and SD/SDHC/SDXC media
APS-C Size HD CMOS Image Sensor
With 19.5 times the area of the typical camcorder image sensor, APS-C makes the difference between amateur and professional-looking video, delivering an exceptional combination of high resolution, high sensitivity and gorgeous, blurred backgrounds
Sony Exmor Technology
Conventional image sensors use only a handful of analog-to-digital (A/D) converters, which can slow you down. The Exmor sensor provides more than 5,600 column-parallel A/D converters. This helps enable continuous shooting at up to 10 frames per second
11 Picture Effect Modes
Discover innovative ways to make your images and videos pop. These include Posterization (Color, B/W), Pop Color, Retro Photo, Partial Color (Red, Green, Blue, Yellow), Soft High-key, High Contrast Monochrome, Toy Camera, Soft Focus, HDR Painting, Rich-tone Monochrome, and Miniature
Face Detection and Registration
The camera can automatically detect up to eight individual faces and adjust focus, exposure, white balance and flash to help deliver crisp, properly lit images of people. Can prioritize children or adults. Face Registration can remember friends and family members and prioritize them
Smile Shutter Technology
Captures a smile the moment it happens. Simply select the Smile Shutter mode and the camera takes the picture automatically. You can prioritize children or adults and adjust the smile sensitivity
15-Point Auto Focus
To maximize the value of Translucent Mirror Technology, Sony incorporates Phase Detection AF of great sophistication. Fifteen sensors with 3 cross sensors maximize precision for both vertical and horizontal subjects
Built-in GPS
With the built-in GPS function, photos and videos can be tagged with capture location information such as latitude, longitude and altitude. With optional software, this information can be correlated, mapped and used to study the subjects of your photos or simply to further document your travels.

Sony has created a great new camera with the best available sensor technology. Super raw images for the semi-pro photographer and tons of special features for the average user. The electronic view finder is a fantastic way to see exactly how pictures will be seen when the photo is taken. Can't beat the Sony SLT 65V for value. A must buy new camera.

    Maybe...but disappointed

Not what I'm used to in DSLRs. Results are OK but GPS is slow. The overall construction is poor compared to Canon with Sony's price being [$] higher than a Canon Rebel.

Comments about Sony Alpha SLT-A65 DSLR Digital Camera with 18-55mm Lens:

The Good: This is a great camera in daylight. It has a bag full of features that impressed me from the 10fps to the Full time live view. This was my first DSLR and I was blown away with the first shots I took. Clear, lots of detail and super rich vivid colors. It has great auto focus and easy to use menu system. Video performance is outstanding and it can record 1080p at 60fps!The Bad: Low light. I just could not get a good enough photo that looked over the top better than the shots taken from my older Cyber-shot camera in low light conditions. They were a lot better but just not over the top better for a 24mp vs. my older 8mp camera . It could be just my expectations but I think the problem is in the 18-50 kit lens it comes with. Also I have big hands and was hoping it supported a sony brand vertical grip for the extra grip and extended battery life. I don't understand why $[$] only gets me a plastic body.Bottom Line:I would still recommend this camera for body only or spend the extra $200 more for the A65 with the 18-135 lens. You can't go wrong with that option. For the price and compared to the Canon T5i and Nikon 5200 that I looked at I was sold on the Sony A65 but I decided to return it and pay the extra $400 for the A77 only because I want to put more investment into it and wanted the best one sony had without having to spend over $[$] for the A99.

Comments about Sony Alpha SLT-A65 DSLR Digital Camera with 18-55mm Lens:

I bought the Sony A65 because my wife is writing a cookbook for which I am supplying tabletop shots of her finished recipes. Once you spend a few hours going over the camera's great features, it becomes apparent that the A65 is a wonderful tool for any serious photographer. I especially like the manual modes that lets one control every aspect of capturing images allowing almost infinite creative possibilities. However, one can also set various complementing automatic parameters and functions that further increase the A65's versatility and utility. I have owned and used many professional, prosumer, and consumer level Sony still and video cameras over my 40+ years of professional photography experience and have never been disappointed. I fully expect the same performance and reliability from the A65.

Comments about Sony Alpha SLT-A65 DSLR Digital Camera with 18-55mm Lens:

This camera has many features like many of its competitors but there are a few that are very handy. Hand held low light for instance allows you to shoot in low light condition without a tripod and with amazing results. It basically shoots 4 or 5 frames in one long burst and composites the results to get to the final image. Even when the subject moves a bit the result is quite remarkable.
I bought this camera because I like the sony image in general vs canon - that's a personal feel - and it has not disappointed me.

Love this product! Amazing, clear pictures, even in low light! The battery is a bit short but nothing to complain about! Also the LCD screen does not show very clear images, but I use the viewfinder so it doesn't make a difference for me! Overall this is a great camera for professionals or just casual photographers with a hobby. It is very easy to use (but I have owned a Sony dslr before).

Comments about Sony Alpha SLT-A65 DSLR Digital Camera with 18-55mm Lens:

Great camera, easy to use with lots of useful features. Stills are great, jpg very good, raw also. Camera is easy to handle, well balanced. Good ergonomics for me and in general a lot of fun to use. I am using the 16-80 Zeiss lens, have not tried the kit lens though I have read it is good. The CZ lens is very good, sharp with good color rendition. This is my second alpha body and I am very happy with the SLT design concept for my use.

Comments about Sony Alpha SLT-A65 DSLR Digital Camera with 18-55mm Lens:

With all the same internals as it's semi professional counterpart a77, this camera is not only the best in its price range against the Canon t4i/60D or Nikon D3200/ D5100,but is competitive in terms of speed and image quality with the Canon 7D and Nikon D7000 semi-professional cameras. This is an $ camera that is competitive with cameras that are TWICE the price. The 10fps shooting speed and the image quality from the 24MP sensor do come with two respective drawbacks however. The 10fps shooting comes at the sacrifice of an optical viewfinder. In my opinion, this is not a drawback as much as it is an advantage since the OLED viewfinder gives you the chance to preview how your current settings effect the final image in real time. The other drawback comes in terms of ISO. The 24MP sensor captures more noise in images above 1600iso in order to push the resolution. This is 1-2 stops lower than the competition. Even with these exceptions, this is a camera that is EXTREMELY hard to beat for the price!

Comments about Sony Alpha SLT-A65 DSLR Digital Camera with 18-55mm Lens:

I bought the camera with the kit lens 18-55mm and the Tamron 70-300 tele lens. This camera takes great still and HD video. I also have a Panasonic TM300 Video camera which is great and I would recommend using a dedicated video camera for the simple reason of the power zoom controls. I do a lot of wildlife shooting so I take both cameras with me when I go in the field.

Pictures with both lenses are super crisp. Focusing is incredible and being continuous because the camera is mirrorless makes focusing super swift. I love the size and feel of this camera. It fits the hand nicely and is quite small. The 24 megapixel sensor is great and allows you to crop even smaller parts of a picture and print it with good resolution. The one drawback with this camera is that it has so much and many controls that when you put it away you forget to reset menu items. I now overcome this shortcoming that I have by by initializing the camera after use and then reseting the image Quality to RAW.

Chose this camera in preparation for getting great photos of my children. So far, it is delivering (even over delivering on some) on the features I chose it for:
                      - Fast autofocus
                      - Minimal delay to take the picture
                      - Face recognition
                      - Continious auto-focus, even when taking multiple, sequential images
                      - GPS Geotagging

The responsiveness of this camera feels like a sports car in your hand, even compared to some of the other, similarly priced models in the store. Autofocus is quick, clean and provides great quality photos. Also, the GPS lock is quick to obtain, much quicker than my Garmin and pretty accurate.

I needed a camera that could do more than your average tourist camera, but without being super expensive. I therefore had set my sight on a Canon Rebel TGi4, but decided to buy this because it had a higher resolution. I've all ready used it for 2 two professionel photo shoots - and it worked like a charm :)

Really impressed with photo quality . This was the only thing that I was worried about between the a65 and canon t4i. Obviously the a65 kills the canon when it comes to the video functionality & specs as well as the 10fps still shots, but I can also tell you that for a prosumer it's photo quality is every bit that of the canon. Glad I chose the Sony & would rec it to everyone else deciding between the two

I'm an old woman and I shake. Not just when taking pictures, but all the time. This camera takes pictures so fast, it helps to minimize my shakiness. All of my shots are coming out crisp and clear. Hand held video even came out nice. The menu and function buttons are easy to navigate. The camera is lightweight and easy to hold. Great camera for the money!

Comments about Sony Alpha SLT-A65 DSLR Digital Camera with 18-55mm Lens:

I ordered this camera for my company. We're a general contracting company and I create promo and how-to videos for the website. I had been using a Sony SR7 hard drive camcorder and was just not getting results that I wanted. The resolution and depth of field that the camera creates for videos is pretty stunning in comparison. I will never go back to a "camcorder" with their small, often partially plastic lenses, and small chips. I spent a long time comparing this camera to the A35 and A55 and this one won out for several reasons. These include the 24 megapixels, larger size, fully manual controls, higher res view finder, versatile swivel LCD, to name a few. I decided to go with the Sony over other competitors due it's ability to quickly autofocus, for those hurried documentary moments, but I actually find my self manually focusing most of the time because it looks better and is now easier to do simply by having a focus ring. I was worried about not having the optical viewfinder but have found that this very high res one perfectly acceptable. I barely notice the difference. My only complaint is the lack of a head phone plug in to monitor the sound (which I like to record straight-in to the camera from my shotgun or lav mics instead of messing with separate sound). Manual audio/meters would be good to have also. Oh and did I mention it takes WONDERFUL, detailed, colorful photographs?

Comments about Sony Alpha SLT-A65 DSLR Digital Camera with 18-55mm Lens:

compared to D5100, there's just so much more features on the a65 it's hard to believe it isn't a $2500 camera.

the SLT tech allows 10 FPS, and when coupled with SanDisk Extreme Pro 95mb, virtually means you can keep on snapping without waiting for it to process. This used to be $3000 territory, now it is in our hands for the better of us all.

24 MP is big, but on an APSC-C Sensor? actually, it's pretty good on the JPEGs, as long as you remember to put Sharpness to +3 in the menu. Raw will look better if you have the time to do so.

Low light? it can do low light ok with fast lens, just don't expect full-frame low-megapixel quality. Actually, it has Multi-ISO shots to make up for that! it takes six shots and combines them into a low-noise picture. Neat.

Panorama mode is super neat as well, just remember to be steady as you pan it. Tends to be a bit finicky if you go too fast in panning.

Otherwise, this DSLT is the shiznit!
