Sony wants to introduce you to their Alpha SLT-A77 DSLR Digital Camera (Body Only). This DSLR has a number of things going for it, not the least of which is the 24.3Mp sensor. Think of all the possibilities 24.3 megapixels of resolution has: mural sized prints, incredible detail, rich color, and more! If you've been craving the pixel power of the medium format back, but in a DSLR rig, now your wait is over.

Sony also gave the A77 their 2nd generation Translucent Mirror Technology system. What does this technology do? It allows the camera to focus with the speed and accuracy of Phase Detection AF and shoot simultaneously. This is an unheard of capability in the world of digital photography, well until now, that is. The camera also boasts Sony's upgraded BIONZ image processor. The processor performs many functions, including efficiently transferring shot data to the chip in your memory card. It also reduces visual noise, and ensures that functions such as 6-image layering and 2D/3D Sweep Panorama work smoothly, and with the necessary speed.

More than a still camera, the SLT-A77 also captures high-quality 1920 x 1080p AVCHD video at 60p or 24p. You can also choose to record at 60i. HD movies can also be captured with full manual control. That means the entire mode dial is at your disposal: Program, Shutter Priority, Aperture Priority, and Manual. Live View, Full-Time Live View (in LCD or EVF) are also available for use as is Full-Time Phase Detection AF. The latter of course being an intelligent way to correct focus automatically, while you concentrate on the scene at hand.

What the DSLR also offers, above and beyond most less-sophisticated cameras, is a viewfinder, the way all your heroes used to shoot. The A77's OLED viewfinder gets your eye off the LCD screen and into the right situation for capturing successful images. Like all viewfinders, this one keeps distractions and glare at bay. But what the OLED viewfinder does that's above and beyond the pack includes a reduction of motion blur on the Tru-Finder screen. The OLED features 2359K dots of resolution and a high contrast ratio. It also allows you to see the results of camera adjustments in real time with true-to-life color and detail.

Of course, the SLT-A77 does have an LCD screen too, but not just any monitor. This one tilts and swivels for everything from hard-to-get shots to successful reviewing of footage in harsh lighting conditions. What else does this type of LCD allow you to do? How about self-portraits? (We all know you take them... every 'creative' photographer does!) When it's not in use, the screen folds flat to the camera for safe storage and traveling.

As far as shooting performance is concerned, in regards to all things internal on the camera, the A77 backs up those 24.3Mp with the kinds of features and functions one would expect. First, the camera supports burst shooting up to 12 frames per second at full resolution; that's great news for sports photographers. The A77 also boasts a super-short lag time of only 0.05 seconds. Then there's the 16,000 ISO sensitivity and the 1200-zone exposure metering. The metering function reads directly from the camera's main image sensor and offers the choice of Multi, Center, and Spot metering.

As for more proprietary shooting features, the camera has a load of those too! While you can shoot on manual, you might find yourself playing with all the built-in options for expressing your creativity. First off, there's the dual control dials that give you access to two settings at once. All the traditional P/A/S/M exposure modes can be found there. Getting into the menu functions you'll find options such as 19-point Auto Focus, Object Tracking AF, and 6-image layering just to start. Dig a little deeper and Handheld Twilight mode and Multi-Frame NR are there to help you capture excellent low-light images.

You'll also find extras such as built-in GPS. The integrated GPS receiver records the location and time of every shot you take, allowing you to view them later on a map with compatible computer and Internet applications. This feature is also great for those into 'geo-tagging'. Eleven Picture Effects modes also give you another way to express yourself with options like Pop Color, Retro Photo, Toy Camera, and more. Old standards like face detection and Sony's Smile Shutter technology are there for your use as well.

Like any good DSLR worth its salt, Sony gave the SLT-A77 a built-in flash for capturing low-light shots with ease. That same flash can also trigger an optional wireless flash. The camera also has an integrated hot shoe for attaching various external flashes and flash accessories (sold separately).

2nd Generation Translucent Mirror Design
Other DSLRs can shoot. Or they can focus with the speed and precision of Phase Detection AF. They cannot do both at once. Sony changes all that with the award-winning Translucent Mirror Technology system. It directs light to both the image sensor and the Phase Detection AF sensor simultaneously
24.3Mp Resolution
You get incredible detail and gorgeous enlargements thanks to an APS-C sensor with 24.3 megapixels
Up to 12 Frames Per Second Continuous
The translucent mirror makes it far easier to capture the decisive soccer kick or your baby at her absolute cutest. Shoots up to 12 frames per second at full-resolution 24.3 megapixels with continuous auto focus (AE locked after first frame). This is the world's fastest shooting speed for interchangeable lens APS-C cameras, as of August, 2011
OLED Viewfinder
There's never been anything quite like the Tru-Finder OLED electronic viewfinder. For size, speed and brightness even after sunset, this is a gem. It begins with 2359K dots for amazing resolution and high contrast ratio for incredible depth. OLED reduces motion blur to a bare minimum. You can also see the results of camera adjustments in real time with superb color and detail
HD Movies at 60p, 60i, or 24p
Capture spectacular HD Movies. This is the world's first DSLR to offer a choice of super-smooth 60p, standard 60i or cinematic 24p, all at Full HD 1920 x 1080 resolution. AVCHD Progressive codec delivers stunning picture quality. MP4 codec offers smaller files for easier upload to the web
HD Movies with Full Manual Control
Now you don't need to surrender control when you shoot HD movies. Enjoy the full expressive potential of Program, Shutter Priority, Aperture Priority or Manual (P/A/S/M) control in HD movie mode
Full-Time Phase Detection AF
You get fast, accurate auto focus in every mode-even HD Movie and Live View-thanks to Sony's exclusive Translucent Mirror Technology. While Contrast Detection Auto Focus often hunts for correct focus, Phase Detection AF knows exactly where correct focus is, and goes straight for it
Full-Time Live View in LCD or EVF
You can use both the LCD monitor and OLED Electronic Viewfinder for composing shots in Live View. Both provide a what-you-see-is-what-you-get preview of white balance, focus, depth of field, exposure and 100% framing accuracy, plus informative on-screen displays
Short Release Time Lag
Helps ensure that the image you want is the image you get. Once auto focus occurs, release time lag is the delay between fully pressing the shutter release and when the camera actually starts taking the picture. Long lag makes it harder to capture fast-moving objects. The Sony A65 boasts a short DSLR release time lag at only 0.05 seconds
Rugged, Magnesium Alloy Body
The SLT-A77 is built for the real world with a magnesium alloy body that combines high strength with light weight. Ports, doors and controls are also weather-resistant for smooth operation under adverse conditions
Object Tracking AF
Locks onto a specified object and maintains focus even as the subject moves. Unpredictable subjects stay in focus even while zooming. You can concentrate on composition without worrying about focus
19-Point Auto Focus
To maximize the value of Translucent Mirror Technology, Sony incorporates Phase Detection AF of great sophistication. Nineteen sensors with 11 cross sensors maximize precision for both vertical and horizontal subjects
Three-Way Tilt-Swivel LCD Screen
Tilt it up or down to frame high- and low-angle shots that would otherwise be hit-or-miss. Tilt and swivel over the camera for self-portraits. You can even tilt it up and down when you hold the camera in vertical mode! Finally, the monitor folds flush to the camera with the LCD exposed for shooting or protected for travel
Dual Control Dials
Perfect for experienced shooters, dual control dials provide direct, hands-on access to two settings at a time
Top Mounted LCD
In addition to status displays on the LCD monitor and Electronic Viewfinder, Sony offers a top-mounted LCD with exposure information
6-Image Layering
Leverages the fast BIONZ processor to capture six images in a fraction of a second, and then combine the data. The result is one incredible single image that gets a cleaner result in Multi-Frame NR mode or sharper nighttime pictures in Hand-held Twilight mode
Multi-Frame NR
Experience incredible low-light shooting without a flash. The camera captures six images in a fraction of a second. Combining the data from all six, it creates a single image with a reduction in noise equivalent to two additional steps of ISO sensitivity. Sensitivity selectable up to ISO 25600
Handheld Twilight Mode
Get gorgeous shots at night without a tripod. Combines six frames into a single image for smooth, low-noise evening shots
Auto HDR Built Into Camera
Captures more scene dynamic range than a single exposure can handle-and more range than photo film. Combines the best highlight detail from one shot, the best mid-tones from a second and the best shadow detail from a third for one incredible shot
3D Sweep Panorama Mode
Capture vast scenic vistas and 16:9 shots in spectacular 3D. As you sweep across the panorama, the camera records separate right-eye and left-eye images that make landscapes come alive on your 3D television. Records both JPEG and MPO file formats
Sweep Panorama Mode
Capture expansive landscapes automatically. Press the shutter, sweep vertically or horizontally. The camera does the rest, continuously shooting images and stitching them together
Built-In GPS
An integrated GPS receiver records the location and time of every shot you take and lets you view your images on a map with compatible computer and Internet applications, so you can remember where you took your favorite shots
Shot Result Preview
See the results before you take the shot. This preview takes the guesswork out of camera settings by showing the effects of the aperture, shutter and DRO settings on the depth of field, motion and dynamic range
921K Dot TruBlack LCD Screen
Sony's 3.0 inch Xtra Fine LCD monitor has 921K dots for superb resolution. The TruBlack screen includes a special resin layer to suppress internal reflections, increasing contrast compared to conventional LCDs. Sunny Weather mode boosts visibility even further
Main Sensor Quick AF Live View
Combines the fast focus of Phase Detection AF with high quality Live View images right from the main sensor. This is made possible by Sony Translucent Mirror Technology. You get accurate images and 100% framing on the LCD monitor or eye-level viewfinder
ISO 16000 Sensitivity
Incredibly clear low-light pictures without sacrificing detail, made possible by the low-noise Exmor APS HD CMOS image sensor and refined BIONZ image processor
AUTO+ (Advanced Auto) Mode
Get cleaner, more dynamic pictures and fewer missed shots. Unifies and simplifies Sony intelligent technologies. The camera automatically recognizes the correct scene mode
Graphic Display
Clarifies the relationship between aperture and shutter speed, as well as the effect each has on photographic results
Upgraded BIONZ Image Processor
The brain of the camera is a Sony's BIONZ image processor substantially upgraded for the demands of 24.3 megapixel photography. Chroma noise reduction delivers high-resolution, low-noise photos even at ISO 16000. Also enables fast processing for up to 10 fps continuous shooting of data-intensive 24.3 MP images, 2D/3D Sweep Panorama modes and 6-image layering
Dynamic Range Optimizer (DRO)
Improves results with backlit subjects and recovers details hidden in shadows. Settings include Auto, Level with a choice of five operating levels and Off
1200-Zone Exposure Metering
Reads exposure directly from the main image sensor. Choice of Multi, Center and Spot metering accommodates a full range of shooting situations
SteadyShot INSIDE Stabilization
Image stabilization reduces blur by compensating for camera shake. Typical DSLR systems build image stabilization into selected lenses only. SteadyShot INSIDE image stabilization is built into the camera body itself. You'll reduce blur with every A Mount lens, including macro and wide-aperture standard zoom lenses
HDMI Output for HD Viewing
Enjoy HD movies and stunning still images on a compatible HDTV. The camera includes an HDMI output. In addition, the BRAVIA Sync system works with compatible Sony BRAVIA HDTVs enabling you to control camera playback using the television's remote
Up to 530 Shots of Battery Life
Take up to 530 shots on a single charge with Sony Stamina battery power. Sony's InfoLITHIUM battery system enables you to see the percent of power remaining, so you can keep shooting in confidence
P/A/S/M Exposure Modes
The camera offers a full range of controls from the beginner's AUTO+ mode to P/A/S/M: Program, Aperture Priority, Shutter Priority and Manual. On-screen prompts help you refine your skills, build your confidence and exercise greater creative control
Advanced Anti-Dust Technology
Anti-Dust Technology helps keep the CMOS sensor clean, resulting in consistently clear pictures. First a static-free coating on the sensor's low-pass filter helps repel dust. Then vibration automatically dislodges dust from the sensor
Built-In Flash (GN12)
To help you shoot more effectively, the camera includes a built-in flash (Guide Number 12) that can also trigger a wireless accessory flash (sold separately). The integrated hot shoe enables you to expand your lighting options with a range of accessory flashes
Slot for Two Media Types
For cost-effective, convenient storage and sharing of your images, the camera accepts Memory Stick PRO Duo/Memory Stick PRO-HG Duo and SD/SDHC/SDXC media
APS-C Size HD CMOS Image Sensor
With 19.5 times the area of the typical camcorder image sensor, APS-C makes the difference between amateur and professional-looking video, delivering an exceptional combination of high resolution, high sensitivity and gorgeous, blurred backgrounds
Sony Exmor Technology
Conventional image sensors use only a handful of analog-to-digital (A/D) converters, which can slow you down. The Exmor sensor provides more than 5,600 column-parallel A/D converters. This helps enable continuous shooting at up to 10 frames per second
11 Picture Effect Modes
Discover innovative ways to make your images and videos pop. These include Posterization (Color, B/W), Pop Color, Retro Photo, Partial Color (Red, Green, Blue, Yellow), Soft High-key, High Contrast Monochrome, Toy Camera, Soft Focus, HDR Painting, Rich-tone Monochrome, and Miniature
Face Detection and Registration
The camera can automatically detect up to eight individual faces and adjust focus, exposure, white balance and flash to help deliver crisp, properly lit images of people. Can prioritize children or adults. Face Registration can remember friends and family members and prioritize them.
Smile Shutter Technology
Captures a smile the moment it happens. Simply select the Smile Shutter mode and the camera takes the picture automatically. You can prioritize children or adults and adjust the smile sensitivity

    Very good overall camera

Great camera with just a few flaws. I've owned nearly every major camera brand (some multiple times) including D700, D300, D7000, 5D2, 5Dc, 1D3, A850, K20D, K200D, 40D,...Read complete review

    Great camera with just a few flaws. I've owned nearly every major camera brand (some multiple times) including D700, D300, D7000, 5D2, 5Dc, 1D3, A850, K20D, K200D, 40D, E-5, D90, NEX-5N, so I'm not a brand loyalist!

    CONS (Pros are next)

POWERON IS TOO SLOW - it takes way too long from power up (or even wake up) to being able to grab your first shot, approximately 3 sec from power-off, 2 sec from wakeup.

NO AF-ON - if you really need this in a camera, look elsewhere, because the A77 can't mimic this behavior.

BATTERY LIFE can seem pretty short, especially if you do lots of viewing through the EVF (like watching birds, waiting for the perfect shot)

WIRELESS FLASH - the onboard flash, used as a commander, contributes way too much light to the overall exposure, even standing 6+ feet back. Requires something to block the onboard commander (hand) or filter it (exposed film)

NOISE - It's not horrible at all, but starts becoming an issue at ISO 1600 (meaning, you'll need some PP). After minor PP and downsizing for web, it looks great. I rarely shoot above ISO 1600.

INTERFACE QUIRKS/SLOW - It would be really nice to be able to choose RAW mode, and when/if you choose a "JPEG ONLY" option (like a scene mode or panoramic, etc) the camera would just auto-switch to JPEG instead of giving you a big middle finger.
Also, interface is slightly laggy but nothing too horrible.

SONY JPEG ENGINE - Not the best in the world, by a long shot. Actually, probably the worst. Decent at lower ISOs if you really, really don't want to process RAW, but I would take any JPEG engine over Sony's.

SLIDESHOW at 8/12 FPS - Makes tracking things difficult during extended shooting bursts.

    PROS (the good stuff!)

It sounds like I gave the A77 a beating, but really those are mostly fairly minor points to me.
    Stuff I love:

ARTICULATING SCREEN - A major reason why I chose the A77 over other pro-sumer APS-C cameras...I love the screens. I first "caught the bug" with the Olympus E-5 and its screen. Very, very useful for a variety of shooting situations.

LOTS OF CUSTOMIZATION - You can reconfigure several of the buttons to do a variety of things (except AF-ON, gah!), pretty cool. You also have three memory banks that can store (most) setup changes as a custom mode (1,2,3).

In-Body Stabilization - I was pretty disappointed the EVF doesn't display the effects of IBIS, but from what I gather it's because it would heat up the camera too much, so it's only active at the time of exposure. I think optical is better for longer lenses, but it's great to have stabilization with EVERY lens.

ZEISS AUTOFOCUS - Nobody else does it.

FAST FPS - Unfortunately you can only choose 3, 8, or 12 FPS (nothing in between), but no big deal for me - I usually select 8 FPS because I like to control other parameters. For crazy-fast stuff 12FPS is awesome, even with its limitations.

EVF - The EVF is pretty darn cool. I love having real-time histogram, or graphical overlay of leveling gauge (2-axis), or real-time feedback of settings such as WB, etc.

SHOT PREVIEW - The shot preview mode is actually really awesome. For instance, if you select a slow-shutter speed, then hold Preview button (which can be the standard optical aperture preview OR shot preview), you can actually see what the photo will look like - it's basically the camera's Live view showing you video of the shot using whatever settings you have. So, on a slow shutter speed, you hit that shot preview and you're presented with smooth water because that's the FPS the EVF shows you! (awesome). I don't know the limits on this though.

RESOLUTION - Amazing. Get good glass on this thing and it sings. I used a lowly Tamron 70-200 at around f/4 to f/5.6 shooting birds at around 8 feet away, then used cropping to get close - AWESOME detail.

Lots more to write, but overall a very cool system. I actually bought it with the 16-50 kit lens (very well-made, good optics) and the 43AM flash. Very nice.

SONY COLORS - Yeah this applies to their JPEGS (or I guess if you use their software to apply stuff to their RAWs, but their software is horrible), but their Jpegs at low ISO are pretty good. I've actually kept several landscape shots (using LANDSCAPE profile) just because their colors are much better than what I can coax Lightroom to give me.

OVERALL- Overall I really like the setup. I wish Sony would focus on releasing more lenses and forget about so many camera bodies, so we'll see. They've got all the major bases covered, though, so most users won't really find themselves hurting for a particular lens. they DO need to quite rehasing Minolta lenses, though. Yeah some of them were good, but it's been 25+ years and some need updating.

Funny thing is, most of my CONS from above could hopefully be addressed through firmware updates - whether Sony will do it or not is the question, though.

I would probably recommend this camera depending on how it would be used.
It has nice whiz-bang features (Panorama, tracking, face recognition, etc.), Focus speed, FPS, resolution, DRO, and WB control - all good. However, noise control at higher ISO is not good. It's not just the noise itself, but the noise reduction techniques the camera employs. I shoot different venues including gymnastics and dance. Both are shot indoors without flash at higher ISO (I use the Zeiss 24-70 and 85/1.4). When comparing pictures taken with the A77 to my A700 for indoor sports, I realized I could not use the A77. While I had more "In-focus" shots with the A77, I could not use the pictures as the detail was horrible relative to my A700 pictures. Thought my "Usability Ratio" was going to be huge until.....I looked closer at the pictures. Regardless, nice camera, just didn't fit my needs.

Comments about Sony Alpha SLT-A77 DSLR Digital Camera (Body Only):

I am a vacation photographer - but I take 1,000 shots a day when I am in full vacation mode. I just took this camera to Greece for two weeks and I am impressed. The camera is solid and the grip is easy to hold. I mount a Zeiss Lens on the front (heavy) but it is still well balanced. Same with the Sony G 70-300 zoom - good balance and the shots are spectacular.

The battery life was great - a full charge lasted all day for my entire trip.

The LCD Screen is far better than I ever expected!

Comments about Sony Alpha SLT-A77 DSLR Digital Camera (Body Only):

Great camera! Electronic viewfinder better than expected. Viewfinder a little pixelated at dusk because of the sensor sensitivity, but still can get great shots. I have been able to get fantastic shots even without a flash because of the high ISO. So much flexibility. I love the 2x digital zoom built in as well. Because of the high Megapixel sensor, I have been able to double the focal length of many lenses without too much degredation. The 2x digital zoom sometimes just adds that little extra when using a fixed length lens

Comments about Sony Alpha SLT-A77 DSLR Digital Camera (Body Only):

Upgraded from my a33 to the a77 even though I seriously thought about switching to either Nikon or Canon. The Sony A series is just too much fun to shoot with! If I was going to move into photography as a full-time profession, I think I would go for the a99 as these are just so fun and enjoyable to shoot on, especially with the updated EFV. Highly recommend looking into the upgraded series.

Have had the camera for about 2 weeks. So far it has met my expectations. I upgraded from the A-350 that I had been using. This camera is so much more. Easy to learn and use. I set it on Aperture priority and let the camera do the rest. Using lenses from the A350 and they are working well.

Comments about Sony Alpha SLT-A77 DSLR Digital Camera (Body Only):

I bought this camera because my a350 wouldn't shoot fast enough or long enough continuous bursts. This camera will sure do that! But it will do so much more, including the ingenious ways it has of getting around Hi ISO or Lo Light noise. I'm going to take a long time to learn how to exploit all that this camera can do.

I upgraded to this from an a100. I can't believe the difference. The pictures are unbelievably crisp, but I wanted it especially for the panoramic and hdr features. It even has an hdr painting mode I was unaware of before purchase. The translucent mirror has more advantages than I expected. All in all, it's the best camera I've ever owned.

Comments about Sony Alpha SLT-A77 DSLR Digital Camera (Body Only):

The camera is amazingly quite as there is no mirror slap. One can barely hear the shutter which is quiet. It is also very fast with shutter firing.

The white balance control is amazing. For instance it has gradations of fluorescent light that allows you to get perfect color on your subjects when shooting under a fluorescent light environment.

I use it for wildlife and landscape photography. Also for portraits and photography of events.

I had an older model sony alpha camera and decided to upgrade. I started doing professional portrait work in a home studio and needed something with more capabilities. This camera was the right choice. I've taken some portraits with it and the pictures came out great. The color is vibrant and the pictures are sharp. I don't have a single complaint. B&H made the whole purchase process as simple and painless as possible.

I used my new A77 for the first time this week for a beauty makeup shoot. The face detection and focus tracking worked like a dream - not a single shot out of focus and eyes were all crisp and sharp. Image quality is superb, colours requiring only a slight boost in saturation in post processing, but thats subjective anyway. Combined with the battery grip, I found taking portrait oriented photos much more comfortable. One nice thing in particular - the built in anti-chimping device AKA the OLED viewfinder - showing you the image you just took in the viewfinder means that you can carry on shooting without moving your eye away from the camera whilst still getting the instant feedback of what the images are looking like. Love it!

Comments about Sony Alpha SLT-A77 DSLR Digital Camera (Body Only):

This camera far exceeded my expectations. While there are features of this camera that I will likely never use for any serious photography, the useful features far far outweigh them. One of the greatest things I have found with this camera so far is it's ability to handle higher ISO settings with almost no noise. I upgraded from an A350 and ISO 1600 was worthless, however with the A77 it can reasonably handle ISO 6400 and still give you a reasonably good quality picture. If you are shooting moving subjects, the contiunous feature can rattle off a lot of pictures in a short time. Combine this with a fast SD card and the buffer can empty as fast as you can fill it.

One of my favorite subjects to shoot are the fish in my SW Reef aquarium. The lighting in that tank has a color temp around 15000K which makes getting accurate an accurate white balance somewhat difficult. This camera, with the combination of color temp and color filters available, gets it right 99.9% of the time on AWB.

Comments about Sony Alpha SLT-A77 DSLR Digital Camera (Body Only):

It focuses on almost any light condition. I had been using the A700 and was in love with that camera, but since I went back to the A77 not touch ... The noise issue remains a thorn in the side, but you can spend 24sc a noise reducer and still have detail in the image, if not cut much.

Comments about Sony Alpha SLT-A77 DSLR Digital Camera (Body Only):

This review may be one of the last for the Sony SLT-A77. I purchased this camera in November, 2013 as Sony was discontinuing this model and I got a substantial price reduction from B&H.

Because I purchased this camera near the beginning of winter, I haven't been able to use it as much as I would have liked under a variety of circumstances or situations. The photos I have taken thus far, however, are as sharp as any camera, film or digital, I have used in past 40+ years to include "all or most of the major named brands".

I have, however, experienced one problem I did not expect and that is the "auto exposure" function has a tendency to under expose by as much as 1+ stops in outdoor situations, principally in wide (16-24mm) angle shots. As a result, I use exposure compensation considerably more than I have in the past. As I loosely "Photo Shop" all or most of my pictures, reasonably proper exposure keeps any potential exposure adjustments to a minimum. Using a longer focal plane, however, usually results in good to excellent exposure.

I have not even begun to use any of the "gingerbread" features in the camera with the exception of AVCHD video which is high quality; both video and audio (with external microphone).

In short, I have rated this a "five star" camera (in spite of the outdoor exposure issues I have experienced) because of apparent quality and design, ease of use and excellent sharpness. I suspect that most of the aforementioned exposure issues will be resolved when Spring and Summer returns and outdoor lighting stabilizes (lesser degree of high and low lighting).

I would like to add that I have read several reviews claiming less than positive "low light" issues with this camera. I, however, took a number of holiday photos at night and found no noticeable grain or other issues.

As in most reviews a second battery is recommended, however, I take a lot of pictures in an outing, to include a goodly number of "bursts", and the battery still maintains a reasonably long life.

Wanted to upgrade from my Sony A550 and I feel I hit the mark with the A77. What an awesome job Sony has done. It's quiet, fast, gets looked at because it's not a Canon or Nikon....:-)and the workmanship and weight are impressive. More to the point the photos are amazing.Although very much an experienced amateur....I'm still learning all of the features this camera has to offer.I matched the camera with the Sigma 120-400 telephoto lens and the images have gotten me some praise even from some semi pro camera buddies of mine. Do yourself a favor and research the Sony line before buying your next camera.No....I don't work for them....just a satisfied buyer.
