The silver E 55-210mm f/4.5-6.3 OSS E-Mount Lens from Sony features extra-low dispersion glass, a broad zoom range and aluminum alloy construction. On an APS-C camera, this zoom lens has a 82.5-315mm focal length range, suitable for event photography and portraiture alike. Internal focusing and linear motor-driven AF system help create responsive yet quiet focus while minimizing mechanical noise. Additionally, a separate manual focusing ring capable of Direct Manual Focus allows seamless transitions from AF to manual focusing.

Two extra-low dispersion elements, combined with Sony's Optical SteadyShot (OSS) image stabilization, improve the overall quality of images captured at the telephoto end of the zoom range, especially while shooting in low-light conditions. OSS is capable of reducing the appearance of camera shake by up to four stops. An aspherical focusing lens located in the center of the optical path help to reduce aberrations throughout the zoom range as well as improve the AF response time of the lens.

Optical SteadyShot image stabilization is capable of compensating for camera shake up to four f-stops, useful for handheld shooting in low-light conditions at the super-telephoto end of the focal length range.
Two extra-low dispersion glass elements and an aspherical focus lens help to reduce chromatic aberrations and distortion throughout the zoom range while maintaining image sharpness and clarity.
Zoom lens provides a 35mm-equivalent focal length range of 82.5-315mm, providing a broad range of telephoto perspectives.
Internal zoom and focus design helps to maintain a constant lens length with a non-rotating front element to support efficient use of polarizing filters.
Zoom lever allows greater control over the speed of zoom using either variable or fixed-speed settings.
Internal AF drive utilizing a linear motor and aspherical focus lens to achieve smooth focus while minimizing mechanical noise.
Direct Manual Focus permits autofocus override without switching the camera's focus mode.

This telephoto lens is an amazing addition to an even more wonderfull NEX camera. The reason that I choose this camera and lens is that I see it comfortable to take it (unlike a big and probably better SLR) to any outdoor activity event. I got wonderful pictures with this kit during rock climbing, skiing and travelling. Apparently I became a NEX-fan

Sony doesn't offer, as of yet, a hi-end long e-mount telephoto for their nex system. Because I like the compactness and autofocus capabilities of native lenses I bought this.

It did not give me the color pop or contrast of other lenses like Sony's 10-18 ultra wide zoom, Zeiss 24 prime or Sony 50,1.8.

Autofocus is slow. Don't expect to use this for sports or wildlife unless the subject is stationary.

However, the images are reasonable. I'll continue to use this lens. Sharpness is pretty decent.

I have also not experienced any lens creep. This has been a problem for others but not me. Maybe when it gets older it will occur. Easily fixed with a wide rubber band around the lens barrel.

For the price they are charging it's a good value. Just don't have unreasonable expectations.

This is the first time I have had something other than a point and shoot camera. Bought this together with the Sony A5000 as recommended by one of B&H's finest.Thought it's more camera than I'm used to, and the learning curve is big, I am pleased with the ease of handling and the photographic results using this lens.

An excellent zoom lens in a compact package. This is such a great fit for the A5000. It's not over the top on price, which the A5000 isn't. If you're shooting professionally, you're not looking at this lens. You'd go for a Zeiss zoom that get's you the cleeeeaannnn photo you can make $$ on. But this is a spectacular value that will improve the photos the average photographer can produce.

This lens gives a lot of reach on my a6000, and the built-in optical stabilization is useful for both stills and video. It's sharp and compact. I wish it were maybe a stop faster, but that would make it a lot more expensive. It's a great lens to have in the bag for those times when the 16-50 isn't quite long enough. A good bang for the buck.

It's not an f4.5 lens on an APS-C sensor

            Comments about E 55-210mm f/4.5-6.3 OSS E-Mount Lens (Black):

Sony is doing some pretty loose math by calling this an f4.5 lens on an APS-C camera. If it were on a 35 mm FF camera yes it would be f4.5
            Let's do the math a 210 mm lens @ f4.5 = front diameter of 46.66 mm
With the crop factor you have a 315 mm equivalent. The front diameter doesn't change so divide the 315 mm lens by 46.66 and you get an f6.7 lens, not an f4.5.
If you think you're going to get an f4.5 lens on an APS-C sensor, you're not. The physics don't work.
You can't selectively convert the crop factor to just the focal length - you have to convert it ALL (unless the diameter of the lens magically changes somehow).
BTW - this is also why you hear that Bokeh on a cropped sensor camera is less than on a full frame camera.
You can't get equivalent bokeh on an f6.7 lens vs. an f4.5 lens on ff. But if you took your ff camera and stopped it down to f6.7 (or as close as possible), the bokeh would be exactly the same.
This is pretty sharp marketing tactics by Sony and other companies failing to "do the math" and telling you the equivalent specifications for ff vs. cropped sensors.

This is the perfect lens to carry with your A6000 if you want something a little zoomy that doesn't weigh five pounds or break the bank. This lens does quite well, all things considered. Yes, it's a little slow so you need light or a tripod. It doesn't have the solid feel of Canon L glass or a Tokina AT-X Pro zoom. It's not a constant f/2.8. But consider the price point. It produces sharp images, the OIS really, really does wonders and the color and contrast are nice. Raw images processed in Lightroom with the specific lens profile applied turn out very nice. Whereas I cannot recommend buying the 16-50 power zoom as it's a real dog, I can definitely recommend this lens. It's truly a no-brainer. For the price, it's an overachiever.

                    Comments about E 55-210mm f/4.5-6.3 OSS E-Mount Lens (Black):

I got into the Sony Nex system recently when I acquired an A3000 camera body and two lenses, the 18-55mm kit lens and this excellent 55-210mm tele zoom lens. Between them, this one has better optics, better resolving power, better bokeh, and to my mind, better handling also. The longer barrel (about the size of a 12oz soda can) makes it easy to keep the camera nice and stable while shooting, especially with the OSS built in.

It's a little bit on the heavy side, but nothing compared to high-end tele primes or to older film lenses (like my Canon FD gear), and because it's a native Sony lens, every last function works and brilliantly at that. Autofocus is pretty quick on the cheap A3000 body, and with OSS it handles well when handheld or shot on a tripod.

Like all telephoto lenses, the compression of perspective at long focal lengths leads to shallow depth of field even with fairly small apertures. The E 55-210 gives great bokeh when wide open regardless of the focal length, even at 210mm at f/6.3. That's an equivalent focal length of 315mm if you shoot full-frame or film, and I promise you this is lighter than any 315mm lens you'd see a film shooter carrying.

Distortion appears to be minimal and what distortion there is can easily be corrected in post; Adobe Lightroom 5.6 has a profile for this lens and it's excellent at all focal lengths.

The only drawback is the smallish 49mm filter ring. Thankfully, step-up filters are available and work well.

This ain't gonna be your Canon L-Series or anything like that, but I got it for $ when I purchased a Sony A3000 with it. I use it for Wedding Videography on my backup camera. Needed something with a zoom. Works great, especially outdoors where I have enough light. Can get a little dark on inside shoots where I have to bump the GAIN up to high. Basically this is my coverage lens. Then I use my Rokinon Cine Lens Primes to get all the "Beauty" shots.

I fish out of kayak. I take this lens along. It images are sharp! For the cost this is a no-brainer. I know the G series would be better, but right now I'm fund limited.

I am using this with the A6000

nice lens , the only thing that sucks its that the silver version of this, gets 4% rewards, and this one does not

This lens delivers beautifully clear, in-focus photos and is great for travel due to its very light weight. It goes in the bag on every trip now...

Much sharper than many might assume!

A very sharp lens for the price. It is certainly "better" than what many might assume it is, based on its price and almost "kit lens" status! The OSS works well too, and I am getting decent bokeh out of it. It does not have the micro-contrast of my Zeiss lenses, but none of them have anywhere near the reach/focal length anyway, and are for very different purposes. The lens cannot be beaten for the function and price, on a NEX camera.
