Not terribly difficult to set up, except the "operating manual" is a big waste of time - it leaves a lot to your imagination.

We must have poked around for 45 minutes trying to find instructions on printing onto a DVD/CD, and never found anything.

Then we tried to print onto a printable DVD from Photoshop, from Word, from Mac's Preview...nothing. The machine wouldn't acknowledge the existence of the DVD tray. We went on the Canon website looking for more detailed instructions, a complete manual, anything. Nothing.

"Never say die" took over and after 90 minutes we doped it out ourselves:

The tiny instruction screen tells you that to print onto a DVD you have to either copy an existing DVD's label or print an image from a flash card / USB thumb drive, etc. (That's not so.) So we copied our JPG image onto a flash drive, plugged it in and the machine didn't recognize it. So we tried it as a PDF - no go. Then we tried a BMP - nothing. (When we'd plug in the flash drive (with ONLY the image file on it) a big Question Mark would come up on the machine's screen.)

We were about to send the machine back to B&H when out of desperation we opened the Canon PhotoPrint EX-400 program that came on the installation disk. No, we didn't want to use it, we wanted to print from Photoshop, but OK. With PhotoPrint you can create your own DVD labels, but we had one already that we wanted to use.

Eventually we clicked through the options until finding a place to insert an existing image. We did it (it came up clipped the first four tries), deleted all the (not-so) helpful text boxes the various templates offer, stretched our image to fit the template, and clicked on Print.

Finally, after honestly an hour and a half, the print process started. A. You can't open the DVD tray until a certain point in the printing process. B. You have to THEN open it and load the DVD tray, etc. Weird.

BUT, the result is very pleasing. (But the process made us want to take a hammer to the machine.)

Now that you know how, follow these instructions and you'll enjoy the machine's features much sooner than we did. It actually prints quite well, and the DVDs come out looking great.

Canon really needs to invest in a detailed, step-by-step manual, though. Desperately!

I use this for home-based art studio business and I do a lot of photography. It used up most of the ink that it came with in a week just going through its "process" but I still have some left. I think a lot of this was just a start-up process and I'm hoping that the new cartridges that I bought in addition won't go this fast... I doubt it.

This printer takes a long time to scan and copy.... As in, it takes a long time to think about what it's about to do and does a song and dance before it actually does it. Once it does warm up or whatever it is trying to do, it then produces nice output and very quickly. I say very quickly because my last printer was a total loser.... slow at everything and cost me more in ink than my electric bill.

I do like how this printer has an encased paper drawer (it's smaller than I was expecting and seems kind of flimsy) but it's nice that it is contained internally. The photo paper feeder is not internal (too bad -- I would have liked that) but it is still nice to separate the two papers.

Overall, I like it. It's probably not the "perfect" printer but from what I've seen in this price range, it's about as close as I'm going to get for what I need. By the way, it doesn't take up too much desk space and the output feeder tray can be shut so it will open automatically when something is sent to print. I like this because it keeps the dust out and I can send something to print from the studio downstairs through the blue tooth. Oh, lastly... I have no idea what that plastic CD holder thing is that came with the printer. It doesn't give any instructions on how to use it or what it is for????

I have not even had this printer for a year yet and have only used it to print CDs/DVDs until 2 days ago. I printed about 15 sheets now it keeps telling me there is a paper jam but its not. I have to go through opening and clolsing and pulling out the drawer several times for it to print again. After It decides to print it may print 1 page then say that it is another paper jam. If you plan on using it only to print CDs It could be a good printer. If you plan to print paper I would suggest you choose a different printer.

Great little machine. Home office use. I use it in concert with an HP b&w laser printer. As expected, ink is expensive and goes fairly quickly. Use it for 4x6 photos, as a copier and scanner primarily. Great for kid's school projects and reports also.

The Good: Good print quality, fast printing, easy setup. Scanning and Printing from and to USB or flash drive is an absolute breeze. The Bad: Sometimes documents come out a little skewed and paper in tray needs to be reset. Sometimes printer will not be recognized over wifi and needs to be powercycled.Ink seems to run out on the faster side, but it is an inkjet and we previously used laserjet so this could be my perception.

Especially for the price this is a great printer. I have had no difficulties with it, despite the fact that I use third-party cartridges that are refillable. Actually prints very good black-and-white photos.
I would highly recommend this printer. Just a note though, if you do a lot of heavy photographic printing you will go through cartridges very quickly.

the mg8220 is top of the line for the mg series printers. what I paid at B&H was cheaper than many lesser model mg printers sell for elsewhere. if you are going to spend $[$]. why not get the top of the line? very nice buttons (much nicer than my other canon printer)and pictures print beautifully just like photos from film from a developer (old school). I bought 3rd party ink for $6.00 total, about $1. a cartridge. I can print around 300 pages for $6, great quality-low price per page- for inkjet- can't be beat. Set up including wireless set up was quick and smooth.

This is my first canon printer I purchased based on many reviews and research I've done. After a very easy and simple Wireless installation I was ready to start printing. I've printed out a few documents and a few photos just to see how well it works And I'm very please with the results. Now I will agree with most of the reviews that does take a minute or two to clean the printing heads to warm up to the first print But after that you're off to the races. I've also downloaded the Canon Pixima Print app on my iPhone and I printed documents and pictures straight for my iPhone it works excellent! I consider my money well spent on this one.

I thought this printer had an auto document feeder - if it does, I can't find it. The paper cassette capacity is very small. This printer is no better than my old Canon Pixma 800, which was about 6-7 years old. The print quality is no better either, despite the "6 ink tanks." If I had not already given away my old Pixma 800, I would keep using it and give away this new one.

B&H offered the best price on this printer, and after a lot of research I determined it was the best printer for me. I was right. It's easy to use, the software is simple, but good. It prints professional grade photos with ease.

This printer outshines any other I've owned when it comes to quality of photos printed! I picked this one because of the 35 mm feature, but having the best looking photos when I am printing is reason enough to buy this product. I've always felt Cannon made superior cameras, but it seems they've taken over the printer business as well.

Home use for printing documents and photos. Photo printing not any better than my old HP Photosmart. Imac computer sometimes has problems"finding the printer." User guide only available on line, none provided with packsge. OEM replacement ink costs as much as the printer.

Comments about Canon PIXMA MG8220 Wireless Color All-in-One Inkjet Photo Printer:

Well I have had problems with printers, this is my fifth digital printer and some were hard to hook up. This one was so easy to install. I may be now look at operating system compatibility where I did not in the past.I wanted a printer that would connect wireless to my wife's laptop. The HP laptop saw the printer right away. My granddaughter wanted to print photos taken on her I-Pad and the nine year old put in the password for the modem and we just started printing. I used Epsom Premium photo paper glossy their 4 star quality paper and got good prints right off the get go. The we ran out of that and tried some old [*] Brilliant Gloss Professional paper and it was incompatible. The ink globbed into pools. Next we tried some Illford Gallery Smooth Gloss which is for pigment ink but it worked fine. Not to sure about the longevity of these prints as you are supposed to use swell able paper which encapsulates the ink for dye prints. I have some Canon Paper coming and am anxious to see if it gives a better print. I compared prints on Epsom Paper made with an R1800 pigment printer and they were the same as the Canon 8220. I used to get perfect prints out of my dye Epsom R200 and should have kept it even though it was an ink hog.I was getting beautiful out put but wanted archival so went up to the R1800. I used the copier function and it worked very well. The printer seems to do a clean cycle if you do not print with in a few minutes of the last print which would certainly burn through the ink but I have not had to change any cartridges yet, done about 30-50 4X6 and some plain paper text documents. I have been turning the printer off if I am not using it and yes it is doing a cleaning cycle when turned on. As this is a wireless printer to used on a net work seems like it should be designed to be left on and have some way of parking the heads after some inactivity. Maybe that is what I am hearing instead of a cleaning cycle. There is always the possibility that cartridges shipped with the printer were not filled all the way or were starter cartridges with just enough ink to prime the machine. Epsom was sued for that kind of stuff but the class action suit drug on for years and my e-mail changed and I didn't get my share of the settlement.Probably many other Epsom owners lost out as well.I ordered new ink and have decided to go with oem. The dual blacks and grey make the prints look good but you have to pay more for the quality output. At the great price B&H offered this printer it is an astounding amount of technology for very little cash. So my synopsis is:1.Easy hook up +2.very quiet when printing +3.High quality prints +4.dual paper path, photo paper and plain in drawer +5. 2 black inks glossy and matte +6. sophisticated scanning set up with film holders ( I have not used this function yet but it is another feature that my HP 2400 did not have. +7.Ink usage will certainly be a concern but I have been Epsonized for some time and thought I would try another brand and had had good experience with a Canon scanner years ago. So far I like this machine a lot.

Has all the features I researched. Slide and negative scanning a plus. Well organized controls from the printer and decent software for both the Mac and PC. Setup went very smoothly. As is common with all ink jet printers, the initial cost is low and the ink consumables increases dramatically long term the cost of ownership. I'm hoping that leaving the printer on full time will reduce the ink usage for printhead cleaning, as reported elsewhere, that occurs upon startup. Printing, scanning and copying perform well, as advertized.

I will be using this printer for my photography classes. The print quality is very nice. The setup was super easy, you don't even have to hook up to a computer to get it onto the wireless network.
