Prior to buying the Kata Rain Cover, I did buy a couple of the much cheaper knockoff's. Although they looked similar, the performance under wet conditions was always sub-par. From stiff, inflexible plastic to leaky seams all left my camera damp after use.
Last weekend I shot another outdoor event in downpour conditions. This time with the Kata cover protecting my Sony A77. The camera with a 70-200 zoom mounted, stayed high and dry. The clear plastic cover remained pliant and did not affect camera handling nearly as much.
I'm keeping this one in my car all year for go to, reliable protection from the elements.

I guess this is just a bit more complex than i needed. The case didn't work well with my tripod as i have a handle that won't fit inside while it's shut. Also using the focus rings is nearly impossible with the way it cinches closed and the huge velcro pad on the end is impossible to work with. Maybe if you had the extender tube it would be a different story and some 800mm lens but this ends up being too complicated and bulky for what is generally needed .. a plastic bag. The way this affixes to the lens and the complexity make this a poor purchase in my world.

Comments about Kata E-702 PL Pro Light Rain Cover (Black):

I think the kata rain covers work well for their price. There are a few things I would have designed a bit better, such as the front stiff hood is not really needed when you use the actual lens hood, so it would have been nice to be removable. It also can get in the shot when using relatively wide angle lenses! There is also nowhere to attach the camera strap, and no camera strap outside the bag, so once your camera is in the cover, you either have to hand hold it the whole time, or set it on a tripod, no way to hold it over your sholder. It's also not as compact as I would have thought because of that stiff hood that does not compact. Just barely large enough for my 5DmkII with grip and 70-200 f2.8 IS with hood.

The only reason I did not give it 5* is because it is a little hard to get it on and off. It has great hand access and you can see the working parts of the camera very well.

Comments about Kata E-702 PL Pro Light Rain Cover (Black):

When this says it fits a 70-200 it fits that exactly. I am running a 60d with grip and a Canon 70-200 F/2.8L IS II and the front bungie comes to the recessed ring on the lens hood. I would have preferred a little more slack, but it does fit precisely.

When not coupled with the extension for longer lenses the fat velcro strap that secures the attachment becomes cumbersome for storage. I have yet to find an efficient way to store it so you might want to think about what you're going to store inside of it to make the most of your space.

The clear part is thicker than I expected, but I trust that it is sturdy and will not easily rip/tear/puncture. It is also easy to see through when using the viewfinder. No need for an expensive eyepiece, viewing is fine through the plastic.

So when the clouds roll in and the rain starts to fall, this rain cover comes into it's own! protecting the camera and lens very well>Also letting you see the body so you can changing settings is a breeze! Allowing you as well to zoom with both hands and camera protected from the elements!!

These are designed for keeping the camera dry while shooting in the rain. I purchased this item to keep my camera safe while shooting paintball games. My camera has been hit several time while having this "rain" cover on, and no damage nor any paint has touched my camera. The fabric is tough, and very durable...it will do great for just rain.

This is something I will definitely keep in my camera bag for those unexpected situations.
