First, you have to check that you have a well adjusted focus ring. Some have complained that their rings are loose. Thankfully, that was not a problem with my lens. (For the Rokinon 8mm, Ken Rockwell has a link for how to adjust the focus ring yourself.) Assuming your lens is calibrated OK, this lens delivers a rounder and creamier bokeh than the Canon 24mm 1.4L, which costs 1600 dollars. The out-of-focus areas of the Canon lens give "squiggly" bokeh, as well as odd distortion in the corners. Mind you, this is when shooting at the minimum focal distance where the distortions are most pronounced. But the Rokinon performs the same task with astonishing accuracy. This lens is built tough, and the photos are beautiful. At the wider focal length, I found it much more forgiving than the Rokinon 35mm 1.4, which is an excellent lens, but it is much more demanding with a depth of field of literally fractions of an inch. I found that I can use this 24 in candid shots much more easily, even when wide open. I started shooting photos with this lens even before I left B and H. I posted these photos in a video review on Amzn, which you can check out over there.

This is my second Samyang / Rokinon lens after I returned the first one due to a decentering defect.
Unfortunatly, this copy is even worse with prehaps 30% of the frame affected at f2.8. I reckon a 2.8 zoom would be better! Would like to return it but have run out of time and need to use it.

Comments about Rokinon 24mm f/1.4 ED AS UMC Wide-Angle Lens for Canon:

Alright, let me just say this. If you are about to get your first 24mm F/1.4 prime and you want to use it for nightscape photography like I do, don't even bother getting Canon's 24mm F/1.4 lens! It has horrible coma/softness wide open (in the corners), where as the Samyang does not. Alright the Samyang 24mm F/1.4 has coma, but it is barely visible and it's gone by F/2. Control of CA is very good also.If you must have sharpness perfection in the center wide open at F/1.4, the Canon is better. But in terms of overall sharpness the Samyang wins easily. Manual focus and manual aperture doesn't matter if you're a landscape photographer. Just get the lens in focus and shoot forever :)One thing that could have been better is the distortion. It can be visible if you're taking pictures of something that is supposed to be straight, but otherwise it isn't that noticeable. Vignetting is just like every other 24mm F/1.4 lens. Noticeable wide open but mostly gone by F/2.8.I seriously recommend every land/nightscape photographer this lens! It is great if you don't mind not having auto focus or weather sealing. Indoor and portrait photographers should also have a look into this lens. It gives pretty nice backround blur aswell. :)

      Great astrophotography lens

Comments about Rokinon 24mm f/1.4 ED AS UMC Wide-Angle Lens for Canon:

I have the rokinon 14mm f2.8 and was looking for something that would grab more light. This lens fit the bill perfectly. It obviously can capture as my as my 14mm from a composition perspective but it sucks in a ton of light. I've never seen as many stars as I have with this lens.

Used it very minimally for non astrophotography though.

      Only thing I'd improve is if I could have a 14mm f1.4 :)

I had this lens since April now, and have used this lens quite a bit. It is turning out to be my favorite lens! I mainly use this for night photography and it does not disappoint. This lens delivers sharp crisp pictures with very little coma compared to other brands out there. The price makes this a steal.

I've been shooting dslr video for a few years now and just came across this lens. Great low light video, very sharp. Comparable to the nifty 50 just wider. Unlike the 50mm this is a big lens with a large focus ring. Makes it nice for finding that perfect focus.

Plus it has a great macro at about 3 inches.

There's no auto focus or IS, but being this wide handheld is still acceptable.

I basically purchased this lens for aurora photography. Living in Iceland where aurora are visible frequently during the darker months and I am involved in various photo workshops, programs, excursions, I felt I needed a very bright lens. My first test with it couple of days ago was great. As always when photographing aurora I focused the lens manually to infinity and taped it down, in case I twist the focus in the dark. Results are best aurora images I ever got. I have not tested it seriously for sharpness, but my aurora images and the stars look as sharp as I used to get with my f 2.8 lens. Good value for money.

Comments about Rokinon 24mm f/1.4 ED AS UMC Wide-Angle Lens for Canon:

I specifically bought this lens because I was looking for something to do astral photography with. I've played around with a number of other lenses with fairly good results, but this Rokinon even beats out the Canon 24mm f/1.4 when it comes to capturing stars.

I'm a little sad there is no auto focus, which is the main reason for my 4 out of 5, but the lens produces wonderful images under most conditions.

The lens is light, however the build quality is not the best it could be. My lens hood never quite seems to stay put and will fall off at the lightest bump.

Over all, a great lens, just be gentle wit it.

It's a great lens! Of course, I understand why it is cheap because one cannot control the aperture via computer.. it has to be done manually. A minor inconvenience, really.. produces a great quality with minimal manual work.

A well built lens, but image quality was pretty poor on full frame. All 3 copies I tried (2 Rokinons, 1 Bower) exhibited severe de-centering and therefore one side of the image was blurry. Also, reviews I read claiming this lens exhibits no coma were just plain wrong. I'm really disappointed, as this would have been the bargain of the year if it had good image quality.

If you buy this lens, please install the ML firmware and you will find a easy way to focusing your subject. Vigneting until f4 on FF, less on APSC. I apreciate de wide angle, construction and after f4 - the sharpness. I didnt like the price in comparation with Rokinon/Bower/Samyang 35 mm f1.4, but is a good lens for filmmakers with DSLR.

Comments about Rokinon 24mm f/1.4 ED AS UMC Wide-Angle Lens for Canon:

Great continuation from samyang/bower of their "cheap" and fast lense series after the 35mmm and 85mm.
I use it mostly for video work and it delivers surprisingly well. Very sharp and (to my eye and the kind of work I use it for) no kind of aberrations.
No IS, autofocus or iris control, but then again I have no use for that in video.

Comments about Rokinon 24mm f/1.4 ED AS UMC Wide-Angle Lens for Canon:

If you can live without autofocus and want an extremely fast, extremely sharp wide angle that won't break the bank, look no further.

Rokinon's 24mm f/1.4 ED AS UMC is a bit pricier than their stunninly-sharp-and-cheap 35mm f/1.4 but is still worth every penny in my opinion. I use it mainly for landscape and 24mm is my favorite landscape focal length. The build quality is solid and I love the huge, dampened focus ring. This lens is an absolute joy to use!

Bottom line: Good sharpness and microcontrast across the frame. Distortion is fairly well controlled. Heavy vignetting when used wide open but that's pretty standard for these kinds of lenses (so no points off for that). Not *quite* as sharp as the aforementioned 35mm but 24mm is a more difficult design - hence the higher price.

If you're considering Canon's 24mm L, this is definitely worth a look first, especially if your main use will be landscape or staged shots. In many ways I think the performance exceeds the more expensive lens.

The BEST, even better than the Canon L

Comments about Rokinon 24mm f/1.4 ED AS UMC Wide-Angle Lens for Canon:
