I purchased 3 floating camera straps - the Vivatar, the Olympus and the Chums -since they were all pretty inexpensive and they all seemed to have good reviews and bad reviews. After trying out all 3 I decided the Olympus will go with me on my next snorkeling adventure with my new Nikon Coolpix AW100 (which I absolutely love but that's for another review). Here are my observations on all three straps. I ordered all 3 in yellow – the Vivatar was a kind of dingy orangish yellow while the other two were a bright yellow which I felt would be easier to spot so score 1 for Olympus and Chums. The Vivatar and Olympus both were easy to dry off while the Chums is made of a kind of spongy material which doesn't dry off right away so score one for Vivatar and Olympus. The Olympus and Chums fit my wrist very nicely where as I wasn't quite sure how to attach the Vivatar to my person. I thought the Olympus when it was cinched up fit my wrist especially well so score two for Olympus and one for Chums. A side note here – I have an average man's size hands whereas my wife has long slender hands. The Olympus slid right off of her hand even when it was cinched up so the Chums might actually work better for her. The Olympus and the Chums both seemed more buoyant than the Vivatar. The Vivatar failed the bathtub test – filling my bathtub to the top and dropping the strap into the water attached to the Nikon (it's a Jacuzzi tub so it's fairly deep). The Nikon was actually resting on the bottom of the tub with the Vivatar whereas it was not touching with the other two straps. The Vivatar was holding up one end of the camera so I suspect in deeper waters it would keep the camera floating but I don't know that for sure. Score one apiece for the Olympus and the Chums. One final observation – and this one is a little subjective. The Olympus just seemed better constructed with more durable parts and connections than the other two. Score one point for Olympus. Final score => Vivatar – 1 point, Olympus – 6 points, Chums – 3 points. Hope this is helpful.

That is likely, as it is not quite small enough for a small hand and wrist.

Whatever floats your boat

By Isaac

from West tx

Comments about Floating Wrist Strap (Red):

Bought my wife a fairly expensive all season underwater camera. Didn't thing of needing a float strap but after almost losing the camera we realized bad things could happen as we passed the camera back and forth. A simple product. It floats. As simple as that. More than enough bouncy to support the weigh of the camera. Bright red matches the camera so wive loves it.

Comments about Floating Wrist Strap (Orange):

When shooting in or around the water, this strap lets the camera float to the surface if you should let go of the strap. Ideal for those of us who have had to free dive to the bottom to retrieve a camera we dropped!

Comments about Floating Wrist Strap (Yellow):

Used this strap during a Grand Canyon rafting trip. I was originally reluctant to purchase because of the bulkiness of the floatation. However I knew this feature was a priority so bought the product regardless. I appreciate that you have the option to detach the floatation component when not needed. The floatation proved to support the weight of the camera but does not hinder your ability to use the camera under water. Pleased w/ this product and would highly recommend. Worth the price.

Purchased the pink to save a few dollars thinking I could just replace the end loop clip that finally broke off the orange strap. The clip diameters are different and do not match, so now I have pink. It does the job and I knocked a star for not being able to swap wrist straps.

Comments about Floating Wrist Strap (Orange):

I was hesitant about buying because of the color, but I'm going to be swimming with dolphins in Hawaii, so I decided the bright color would probably work best in case I drop my camera. I have a Nikon AW100. I tested the strap at a water park wave pool. We were throwing the camera back and forth, and the strap kept it afloat very well. Reason I gave only 4 stars is because it's a little loose on my wrist. It made it kind of difficult to swim around, as I was always cautious of the strap. At least it floated really well.

This strap is a total life saver! I used it with my new Olympus TG-2 P&S underwater camera, and it actually floats when using this strap. There were no worries when using this strap whatsoever.

It is comfortable, although a bit large, but it has to be in order to support the weight. It is also easily detachable, so I was easily able to swap straps depending on need.

Great product that works as advertised. Highly recommended.

I was so glad I bought this strap. I didn't have any worries about losing my waterproof camera so it was always accessible for my 10 day sailing and snorkeling trip.
Some reviewers have mentioned that the strap is big but I have big hands so it wasn't a problem. Even if you have small hands, the point of the strap is to keep your camera from falling to the bottom of the ocean and it works incredibly well for that.

Bought this product for use while boating out on the local lake. It works as I need it to. My only complaint that when completely tightened, the "wrist strap" is still loose and slips off of my wrist. This is not a deal breaker, though because if my camera ever slips off of my wrist, it will just float in the water until i grab it.

Comments about Floating Wrist Strap (Yellow):

Used on our Nikon AW100 and works perfectly. Kind of bulky but works well.

This strap works exactly as described. Although I never came close to letting go of my camera will snorkeling I did feel more secure knowing that was one less thing to worry about.

Purchased for husband to use with waterproof camera. Strap is loose around his wrist with no way to make it smaller. Solved problem by using a rubber band at base of floats.
