This is a inexpensive product that really solves the light leak issue those of us with glasses suffer with when using a conventional eyecup on a DSLR. The Hoodman completely blocks out the stray light making the viewfinder at its included displays much easier to see and lets you keep both hands of the camera instead of having to shade the sun with a hand while shooting hand held. The only downside of the product is that in order to make the eyecup large enough to work successfully, it ends up covering up a noticeable part of the read LCD, so that examining your shot on the screen using liveview, or selecting menu items becomes a little harder. It might be possible to trim the bottom edge of the eyecup to mitigate this effect somewhat - I'll have to use it for a while to decide if I think that is necesary. Given that the eyecup can be used totated in either direction I don't know how Hoodman could have done anything with the design itself to make the situation better. So that is the only reason it gets a 4 star instead of a 5 star rating.

I've got tired of leaving smudges on the LCD of my camera and on my glasses and after reading some good comments on a bird photographers forum decided to get the "glasses" model of hoodeye. A big mistake.
1st it is extremely hard to put the thing on the camera (5D mark II), I had to use all my strength to push it on, which speaks volumes of the quality.
Once it was on it did not do any good - it felt uncomfortable, covered part of the LCD and kept my relatively small glasses away from the viewfinder.
I immediately removed it and put back the stock eyecup.
I praise Hoodman for developing the product, unfortunately the execution and quality are not satisfactory.

Comments about Hoodman Glasses Model Hoodeye Eyecup for Canon 5D, 5D Mark II and 6D Models:

A welcome addition to my toolkit.

I shoot on Florida beaches constantly. Lots of light and lots of glare. It's often very difficult to get the readings I need through the viewfinder.

I was hoping that the Hoodeye would eliminate all of the light entering around my eye and I'm happy to report it does exactly that.

You wouldn't think that's a big deal but if you a lot of high light, high contrast beach shooting and you'll 'get it' in more ways than one.

Nice little tool, well worth the investment.

Quality is very good as well.

To summ it up, wouldn't be without one.Lets me see what the lens is seeing with out stray light coming in from the top and sides that can obliterate the view. Helps me in framing shots especially in strong, low-angled light. It's well made and rugged. Been using the Glasses Modle Hoodeye Eyecups on my DSLRs for years. A "Must Have" as far as I'm concerned.

The key to the Glasses Model Hoodeye Eyecup is that it fits much more snugly than the original eyecup that comes with my Canons. I no longer fear looking down to find my eyecup missing.

This eyecup actually made my view of the frame worse. If I had the world's smallest eyeglasses then I might be able to use this eyecup. I had high expectations but I guess I will stick with the standard eye piece that comes with the Canon 5D.

I expected it to be larger, but not quite so cumbersome. It will take some getting use to because the right side of the cup sticks out significantly. I have to be a quick learner on this piece to keep from poking my right eye out. Once you are in position it does as described about cutting ambient light out for better focusing.

Comments about Hoodman Glasses Model Hoodeye Eyecup for Canon 5D, 5D Mark II and 6D Models:

As an eyeglass wearer I find the viewfinders in DSLR cameras very difficult to fully use. My correction is too great for the typical adjustments provided on the cameras, and it would be too awkward to keep putting glasses on and off to see the viewfinder data anyway. I purchased an add-on wide angle lens (Canon EP-EX15 II) for my Canon 5D Mk II that permits seeing the entire viewfinder data set while still wearing glasses, but in daylight the data readouts were simply not bright enough to see well. This viewfinder/eye hood helps a lot by shading the viewfinder to reduce the ambient light reaching it. It's not perfect by any means, but it helps a good deal -- I can now actually read the info in the viewfinder in most cases. The unit is well made, and fit properly on the viewfinder extension (the EP-EX 15 II). The eyecup is readily rotated to whichever orientation you desire (for right or left eye, for example). I have it rotated so the long segment is on top to provide shade for the viewfinder.

Does what it's supposed to do. Protects eyeglass lenses from direct contact with too-small eyepiece on Canon 5D. Helps shield extraneous light from viewfinder better than stock version, when wearing glasses.

Comments about Hoodman Glasses Model Hoodeye Eyecup for Canon 5D, 5D Mark II and 6D Models:

I have always used eyepiece extenders for better viewing, but when my Canon extender slid off my 20D like it had done so many times and this latest occurrence it remained unfound, I decided to go in the eyecup direction. So much better! Allows no light in making it easier for me to just concentrate on my composition. It's comfortable, lies flat against my cheek in portrait or landscape orientation, and provides a completely dark environment for the viewfinder.

Comments about Hoodman Glasses Model Hoodeye Eyecup for Canon 5D, 5D Mark II and 6D Models:

This eyecup is good for people who wear glasses. It allows you to see the number in the view finder better. However, if you use live view, this eye cup gets in the way and cover about 1/5 of the top of the LCD. I have to remove the rubber when I use live view. Be aware that it is difficult to remove the entire unit after being installed

Use this to improve visibilty in viewfinder of image and light meter functions. These were often difficult to read in some conditions, particularly bright light. Short of Lasik this is the best alternative. My glasses are medium size and it covers it adequately.
