  • Maximum Height of 51.4"
  • Load Capacity of 22 lbs
  • Forged Aluminum Chassis
  • Rapid/Reversible Center Column
  • Short Center Column for Low-Angle Shots
  • Folds Down to Just 13.4"
  • Weighs Just 2.2 lbs

The Sirui T-1005X 5-Section Aluminum Tripod is a supremely lightweight, compact tripod that extends to a maximum height of 51.4" and folds down to just 13.4" for easy transport. Weighing only 2.2 lbs, the T-1005X supports loads up to 22 lbs thanks to its relatively thick upper leg sections and forged aluminum construction.

The T-1005X tripod is suitable for use with just about any head and any 35mm camera, DSLR, point & shoot, or camcorder. It's an excellent travel model due to its light weight and the fact that its legs fold upward to achieve a folded length of only 13.4". That's a figure that won't necessarily grow if you attach a head – the legs extend past the height of many head models that you'll mount, so the entire package stays very compact to fit comfortably in most carry-on bags and backpacks.

The tripod's center column is reversible, and the T-1005X comes with a short center column so that you can set up extremely close to the ground for ultra-low-angle shooting. With the short center column installed, you can set the legs at their wide angle (80°) and shoot from only 5.1" from the ground.

Forged aluminum results in stronger components than the traditional casting process that's often used for tripod chassis. Forging leads to more compacted metal and enhances the integrity of metal grains so they remain consistent and continuous. This leads to a longer product life and better performance
An anodizing surface treatment, produced by an electrolytic oxidation process to increase the thickness of the natural oxide layer on the surface of metal parts, is applied to increase corrosion & wear resistance and surface hardness, and to enhance color durability
Silicone twist locks for leg stages
Anti-leg rotation system makes setup faster
Automatic leg-angle lock mechanism for speed and convenience – independently lock legs into place at two different angles
Short center column allows the tripod to reach extremely low positions – minimum height of 5.1"
Leg warmer on one leg facilitates handling in extreme weather conditions and helps protect it
Center column hook allows you to add a ballast for a sturdier setup in windy conditions
Well-designed padded travel bag with sturdy shoulder strap for carrying
Load Capacity 22 lbs (10 kg)

The sirui is the ideal travel tripod that folds into a very small package and can easily fit in an average camera bag or backpack. I was very impressed with the quality of this tripod. I have owned a Gitzo studex aluminum tripod for 25 years now and as I am now also 25 years older I wanted a smaller package when I go light or go hiking. I looked into the Gitzo travel tripods and as good as they are, the price of these things borders on the ridiculous. I looked quite a bit for a small tripod and looked into the manfrotto and benro's also. There is something a little extra about the quality of the sirui tripods that sold me on this brand. The fit and finish seems superior to even the long established manfrotto brand. I know Sirui is relatively new to the US market but for [$] you can't go wrong. They also have this model in carbon fiber for $200 more but the weight difference is only about 6 ounces. For that small a difference I'd rather have the extra $200 in my pocket. Yes I'm cheap as well. When I purchased this tripod I quickly did some vibration testing and compared it to my Gitzo which weighs about 10 pounds with the Kirk ballhead. I was extremely impressed with the stability and it compared very well with my old Gitzo. I even tapped the tripod during a long exposure and it did show some vibration. I did the same tap test with the Gitzo and it showed the same vibration as well. An incredible performance considering the size and weight difference between the two models. Additionally the leg locks are better than my old Gitzo by a long shot. I'm sure the new G-lock legs are better now than the Gitzo's of the past, but the sirui leg locks have an extra click when you twist them to unlock. This is a safety feature that prevents the legs from collapsing when the leg lock is loosened a bit. Only when the lock is loosened beyond this click will the leg close. If my old Gitzo's leg lock becomes loose the leg starts collapsing and down goes the whole rig. Sirui doesn't seem to advertise this feature on their website but it's an extra touch of quality that deserves mention. If you are very tall this tripod may be on the smallish side for you but any travel tripod will most likely be too short as well. I'd rather have to stoop over a bit and have the added support of a tripod than not have one any day. I've always believed that great pictures require a tripod. I always said taking quality pictures without a tripod is like playing a violin without strings. It can't be done. Only time will tell if this tripod will last as long as my old Gitzo, but all in all a great product at a price point no one else can match.

The first time I extended the legs one of the plistic parts inside the twist locks broak. The inside of the twist locks are made of very thin plastic and are fary to easy to break. I have returned the tripod (thanks BHP) and decided to go with a Benro for travel. My Gitzo is a bit to bulky for airline travel.

Comments about Sirui T-1005X 5-Section Aluminum Tripod:

Bought this as my first tripod and I am not disappointed. It is very lightweight even with a Oben ball head I purchased which added a pound! Its very sturdy and very easy to use. I love the twist locks which are fast and lock really well. It has two leg warmers for the cold weather, rubber feet and twist locks, lightweight aluminum legs and center column, a hook to hang a bag or weight, a smaller column for macro photography or for a lower profile, a carry bag and strap, and Allen wrenches for adjustments. What made me purchase it was the weight, the lowest height, and the height when folded which makes it easy to transport. The only negative that I have is that the feet do not unscrew to add spikes if needed. I remedied this by hanging my bag from the hood and buying a rock bag for extra support on windy days. I highly recommend this tripod for people who want a lightweight, ultra portable, and low height for macro.

I didn´t have the chance to test it outdoors yet, but it looks sturdy enough for my 6D + 24-70 f2.8L at home. I don´t know how it´s gonna handle strong winds, but the tripod packs small and the build quality looks great to me.The carrying pouch is fantastic, way better than anything you can get from manfrotto or similar brands included.Make sure to buy a light head as well, because my ballhead is quite heavy for this little tripod (Sirui K-20X)

Comments about Sirui T-1005X 5-Section Aluminum Tripod:

I often have to travel by air to video shoots around the country and overseas. I needed to find a tripod that would be suitable for shooting video with my Panasonic AF100 and GH3 cameras, yet be able to fit in my backpack camera bag for carry-on. I actually have tried several over the past few years, and this is by far my favorite. It is very well made and smartly designed, and as stable as possible for something of this size and weight. To shoot video, I add an old Bogen fluid head that I've had for years, but is quite compact itself. These sticks hold that head and the AF100 with no problem, particularly when I do not have to extend the legs fully. This tripod includes a very well-made bag, tools, and a shorter center post that is in its own bag as well. Altogether, a very well done product.

Finally found a tripod that meets my criteria for strength, compactness and weight. Fits in my backpack with ease next to a monopod, walking stool, m4/3 body, five lenses and other necessary bits. Easy to extend and manipulate to fit in tight spaces and easily packs away. And, it comes with a very nice padded case with a dedicated strap. I use it for landscape and wildlife photography. Excellent $ value.

Comments about Sirui T-1005X 5-Section Aluminum Tripod:

I was looking for a backpacking tripod and this one looked appropriate, however, once I unpacked it I noticed that is way too heavy for what I needed. I did not use it but it looks sturdy, just too heavy for my needs. Also, the weight on the description is wrong, it's not 2.2 lb as stated but rather 2.6 lb. Not a huge difference for some but it is for me as I carry this on my back for many miles. I'm returning it and hence the 4 stars.

Comments about Sirui T-1005X 5-Section Aluminum Tripod:

I love this tripod. I purchased it to have a smaller, travel one. To be honest, I have not taken it on any trip yet, but have been testing it at the home studio.I fitted it tripod with a Induro ball head that I had around, which was a bolt-on job. The tripod holds my tiny Olympus OMD EM5 very nicely, I have not tested it yet with a heavier camera, but I already know that this particular ballhead has a hard time keeping a 5DMII in one position. The tripod has many features that only bigger, pricier units have. The legs can be positioned at several angles and they can be folded backwards, which saves another couple of inches off the length and the tripod has a reversible center column with a weight hook to stabilize it. There is also a center column extension to offer more height.I was pleasantly surprised with the bag that came with the tripod, which has some nice design elements. It has hooks to attach it to the bottom of a backpack and the strap doubles as a tripod strap. It takes a little bit to get used to the extra leg sections, but this is a small price to pay for the reduced size.

Comments about Sirui T-1005X 5-Section Aluminum Tripod:

This is a light weight, precision made tripod leg. I pair it with Sirui K-10x ball head which is also well made. The whold thing weights about 3 lb and is surprisingly sturdy for such a light weight. The case is nicely padded and also well made. It folds very small.

I would have given it 5 stars if it wasn't for a misleading statement in product description. The product description states that the center column can be reversed. However, it does not clarify that the reversed position is only meant for putting the tripod away for storage. You can't put camera at the reversed position. If you are looking at this tripod for very low angle shots, just be aware of that. Having said that, the minimum height of the tripod (with the short center column) is about 5" which is OK for most of my low angle shots.

I bought this tripod as I plan on travelling with it. Haven't taken it out to the field but it packs up small enough to fit into my roller. It feels stable when shooting on solid ground. It doesn't have the spikes for shooting outdoors, but my camera (d5100) and lenses are small/light enough that it doesn't need that much stability. I feel comfortable that the tripod can handle the weight

Comments about Sirui T-1005X 5-Section Aluminum Tripod:

The 2 things that really caught my attention upon using this tripod were (a) its folded length is really compact; my Manfrotto 496RC2 ballhead does not add any length to tripod when folded (b) the leg hinge/ratcheting mechanism has a really solid feel, with a good amount of resistance. The leg locking mechanisms are smooth and don't require a lot of turning to lock and unlock. The 1 thing that I noticed deficient about this tripod is the slightly narrow stance. You should certainly hang a weight (camera bag or other) from the provided center section hook if you ever plan to take your eye off your camera rig for a moment when out in the field. If you already own a good ballhead and simply want travel-friendly tripod legs to mount it to, this is the tripod to get. I already carry this around in my messenger bag when I shoot around the city, but am really looking forward to travelling with it to Asia and Europe this Summer.

Comments about Sirui T-1005X 5-Section Aluminum Tripod:

I haven't had this tripod long, but it has already been a marked upgrade from the [*] tripod I previously owned. Paired with Sirui's G-20X ballhead, I was impressed with its stability. The twist knobs that tighten or loosen the leg segments feel light-weight, but seem to hold the segments solidly with no shifts.

As the owner of "many a tripod" over the years (since the 1960's) I've never seen this quality for such a reasonable price. Of course it has yet to be tested by time and extensive use, but I'm giving 5 stars for my first two weeks of use.

I'm nicely surprised with quality of this product. I took it on my recent photojournalistic assignment where I had to travel light but still felt like I may need a tripod and I couldn't be happier. Worked great for stills as well as for video worth big video fluid head.I love the quality and additional stuff like extension parts, bag (which I will probably never use, but good for storage etc) The options to go really low is very be as well. Folded size fit perfect in any carry on luggage or strap to photo shoulder bag. So far I love it!

Comments about Sirui T-1005X 5-Section Aluminum Tripod:

I read quite a few reviews before selecting this tripod and I was impressed by how many people wrote lengthy, positive reviews for the product. After purchasing it and using it several times, I am very impressed by its quality, design, and functionality.

I have two other tripods. One is a Manfrotto that I use for video work. It's quite large and heavy, and not something I would use for a casual afternoon of photography. The other is a Slik which is light and fairly portable, but not something that fits into a small backpack. The T1005x fits in a small backpack and is light enough to carry whenever I get the whim to shoot photos.

I use a Manfrotto 496RC2 Ball Head with the tripod and shoot with a Nikon P7700. The ball head is probably a bit of overkill, but it's dependable and has a very easy to use release plate. The ball head and tripod work well together. Even though this is a fairly large ball head, I'm able to fully close the tripod and store both in its travel case.

The design team for this product really paid attention to details. The carrying case that accompanies it is constructed with heavy weight, lined nylon, is fully padded and has two zipper compartments - one inside and one outside. I use the inside pocket to store the short extension tube which has its own drawstring, storage bag. There is a small vinyl flap that covers the zipper head when the inside pocket is closed. This protects the tripod from scratches and shows how much attention was paid to the "little things." The bag has sturdy nylon web carry handles that can be closed using velcro. There are two zippers for the main compartment, both of which have easy-to-grasp zipper pulls. The padded strap that comes with the bag can serve two purposes: it can be attached to the bag or the tripod, depending upon how you want to carry it. It's an excellent bag. The only change that I might want to see is the addition of windowed identification pocket and, perhaps, the use of metal fixtures where the strap is attached to the bag. Otherwise, it's perfect.

The T1005x is very well engineered and has an excellent fit and finish that equals my Manfrotto tripod. It feels substantial and looks like a very high-end product. It sets up and breaks down relatively quickly with a little practice. Although I was accustomed to tripod legs with flip leavers, I was able to extend and retract the legs using the twist locks with ease. The tripod has tiny set screws that lock the head into place and the tools needed for this function come with the product.

For its weight and size, the tripod provides excellent stability. It certainly would not be as stable in a windy situation as my larger Manfrotto tripod, but that is the trade-off one makes for portability. The tripod does have a retractable hook on its extension tube which can be used to attach a weighted object for more stability.

Two of the tripod legs have heavy-duty foam which would make it easier to carry by hand, especially in colder weather. A short, easy-to-mount extension tube is provided that allows for shots very close to the ground.

The only thing that appears to be missing are retractable spikes. But that's not a deal killer for me. For the price, this tripod offers excellent value.

Love this tripod. I can attach any head to it, and it is so stable for such a portable unit. Quick to setup, and quick to fold up. And it folds up so small, you would think it would be a short tripod, but no ... opens up tall.

Comments about Sirui T-1005X 5-Section Aluminum Tripod:

This is a very nice, SMALL LIGHTWEIGHT tripod. I was looking for a tripod that folds up small and is light for travel. Most of the ones I found were twice as much if not more then this one. When fully extended it leaves a little stability to be desired, but still not bad! Very much recommended if the above describes you.

Tripod is very good, and travel pad big enough to carry a ballhead + small video head. Hope it will be still reliable after several month of usage.
