The Sirui N-1004 4-Section Aluminum Tripod is a great tripod for travelers and other adventurous photographers who need to pack light and reserve the option to, at a moment's notice, slim down their camera's support system to just a monopod. The N-1004 features a leg that unscrews and attaches to a second included mounting plate to form a monopod.
Reaching a maximum height of 61.4", the tripod itself is quite versatile in its own right – the N-1004 weighs just 2.6 lb but supports up to 26.5 lb thanks to its thick upper leg sections and forged aluminum construction. It's suitable for use with just about any head and any 35mm camera, DSLR, point & shoot, or camcorder.
The compact N-1004 tripod's legs fold upward 180° to achieve a relatively compact folded length of 17.3" – even with many camera head models attached. The entire package stays very compact to fit comfortably in most carry-on bags and many backpacks.
The tripod's center column is reversible, and the N-1004 comes with a short center column so that you can set up extremely close to the ground for ultra-low-angle shooting. With the short center column installed, you can set the legs at their wide angle (80°) and shoot from only 6.3" from the ground.

Bought this tripod for travel and conditions such as ocean salt water. I'm not willing to use my very expensive Gitzo tripod around salt and sand, so I figure if the inexpensive but very well built Sirui tripod were to be damaged by salt water or sand, it wouldn't break the bank.

Comments about Sirui N-1004 4-Section Aluminum Tripod:
Having been disappointed by other lightweight tripods by Giotto and Manfrotto, I decided to give Sirui a try. Where have you been all my life? This tripod is amazing! It's the perfect hiking tripod. Small and light, yet very stable for an SLR like the D800 with a medium zoom attached.
Legs lock and unlock and extend smooth as butter. You can switch between the long and short middle tubes and one leg can even be removed and used as a monopod. How cool is that?
I've used this in the desert and a few ice storms so far and it hasn't minded the conditions at all. I welcome Sirui to the tripod market and I hope they continue to make well-thoughtout and high quality products like this.

Comments about Sirui N-1004 4-Section Aluminum Tripod:
Actually I am a freelance teleprompter operator, and wanted something very sturdy and yet compact to hold my 8 lb prompter in "stand alone" configuration. This tripod is so adaptable, I am totally under-using most of it's photographers functionality, but it is exceptionally well made and well thought out. It's much lighter, packs smaller, and is taller than the Manfrotto 190XB that I was using.

Comments about Sirui N-1004 4-Section Aluminum Tripod:
It folds up great for traveling. Its very sturdy and quick to fold down to pack. I get it from fully extended to compact and strap to my bag in less than 2min. I like the weir of it especially at the price I paid for it. I got the matching ball head to go with it which is excellent. I could of paid $200 more for the carbon fiber but its not noticeable. I rather spend the extra money on a prime lens and buy this tripod anyway over anything units class.

Comments about Sirui N-1004 4-Section Aluminum Tripod:
I have been using the Sirui N-1004 for the past few nights -39 F. for 7 hours last night. As has been the case with all of the products tested from Sirui to date, last nights performance was flawless. I photograph wolves, fox, and other predators using animal in distress calls. In the Winter this entails laying in the snow under cover with two camera set on tripod low and with remote. Only Nikon bodies have survived the night and Sirui has been a champion for me as well. Other than that I spend many night on the road shooting the Aurora, many clear nights here in Alaska come with wind. I will use Sirui products as long as I can get them.

The best thing about this tripod is that it extends to eye-height for a 6' tall guy like me, and at the same time collapses short enough that it can go in your cabin bag. So you get great comfort when shooting, and great portability. Build quality is quite good. Plus it's got good features, check the Sirui website. Overall it's one of the best tripods for travel.

Comments about Sirui N-1004 4-Section Aluminum Tripod:
I bought this tripod specifically for travel and have only used it a little so far. But, it is well designed, full of features, sturdy, tall enough for my 6 ft. height, very compact when folded up, and I think a very good value. I can't wait to take this on the road. Haven't found anything I dislike about it so far.The Manfrotto 494RC2 ball head I chose to go with these legs seems like a perfect match and works with the quick release plates already on my cameras.

Comments about Sirui N-1004 4-Section Aluminum Tripod:
I've now brought this up a few mountains in the Adirondacks, and I have to say it is truly and incredibly little beast. I was torn between this and the N-2004 model, but since i occasionally fly, the non-spiked feet sold me since I can get it through TSA.
On top of Wright Peak, one of the windiest mountains in the ADKs, the tripod held sturdy and I simply tied my hiking pack to the included hook to increase that stability and was able to fearlessly shoot steady shots using a 135mm lens on a 5D mark III. On night shots, I've found it is easy to set up in the dark and the leg warmers and rubber grips allow me to do such with out major discomfort.
The only MAJOR thing to be aware of is that if you are looking for a tripod to do panoramas with, there is not a built in Spirit Bubble for leveling so you need to get either a leveling plate or a leveling head to make sure your base is completely flat, but as an inexpensive aluminum tripod I'll take it and then some...

Comments about Sirui N-1004 4-Section Aluminum Tripod:
The tri pod itself was VERY VERY light, it's a aluminum tri pod, but has the weight of carbon fiber tri pod. Now the big question is, how sturdy is it? The description advertise it 26.5 max load. However, that's at it's absolute best. If you have it collapse all the way and what not, then yes. Other wise, it could be a little scary when the center column is extended all the way up (which I don't need it since I'm only 5' 6" or so. For the record, i use a Nikon d3, and 70-200mm. The tri pod comes in with a bag, where it even fits when a Sirui tri pod ball head is attached to the tri pod. The ability to switch over to mono pod is also a big + for me. Overall, I'm very satisfy with the tri pod.

I have used this tripod a couple of times. It is a nice contrast to my old heavy manfrotto. A tripod does not need to be able to hold up a train wagon...This tripod is by far lighter even with a big ballhead compared to my old small manfrotto that did just had a small non-advanced head. This seems to be enough sturdy for most peoples needs. Would just have been nice if it had these screw-out-spikes that some tripods have for when you are out in the terrain.

Shortly after purchasing, I brought this tripod with me on a trip to Puerto Rico. I used it while trekking through a rain forest, and it worked flawlessly. It is lightweight yet sturdy, and I didn't get tired carrying it on my shoulder with the included strap. I took multiple exposures for HDR photography and the shots came out sharp. Used in conjunction with a G-20 ball head, this tripod will be able to meet all of my requirements:
-highly portable
-sturdy construction
-ease of use

Comments about Sirui N-1004 4-Section Aluminum Tripod:
Bought for travel. The flip over legs enable a very compact size; aluminum construction makes it very light at a third the cost of carbon fiber (is it worth $200 or more to save one pound??). Very sturdy and near perfect height without using center column. Because of non-rotation grooves, all the locking rings on one leg can be loosened or relocked to the collapsed position with a single twist - faster than levers for my hand. Locking in extended position is quick and absolutely secure, no trace of slippage followng finger a finger-pressure twist on each ring. Comes with a short column for near ground level work (legs can go out at right angles to the center column), and one leg can be converted to an extremely sturdy monopod. NOTE: the B&H description suggests the center column can be attached to the monopod. As best I can tell it cannot, but it isn't necessary. The detatchable leg is sufficiently long. COMPLAINTS: 1) the legs are a bit stiff to fold/unfold from the compact travel position, but they will probably loosen up with use. 2) the center column head cannot be transferred to the monopod leg because the head is locked on with little Allen head set screws. Hardware is included to carry a second head to mount on the monopod. It would be better if the head on the center column could be easily unscrewed for attachment to the monopod leg.

This is a beautifully designed piece of equipment. It is light weight, adaptable and well made. Perfect for on-location lock-down shots.
As a professional videographer, it is far from my number 1 tripod, but it fills the niche described above perfectly.
