The Sirui N-2004 4-Section Aluminum Tripod is a great tripod for travelers and other adventurous photographers who need to pack light and reserve the option to, at a moment's notice, slim down their camera's support system to just a monopod. The N-2004 features a leg that unscrews and attaches to a second included mounting plate and, optionally, the tripod's removable center column, to form a monopod that ranges from 16.9" (collapsed) to 66.2" long (with the center column attached).

Reaching a maximum height of 65", the tripod itself is quite versatile in its own right – the N-2004 weighs just 3.5 lb but supports up to 33 lb thanks to its thick upper leg sections and forged aluminum construction. It's suitable for use with just about any head and any 35mm camera, DSLR, point & shoot, or camcorder.

The compact N-2004 tripod's legs fold upward 180° to achieve a relatively compact folded length of 18.1" – even with many camera head models attached. The entire package stays very compact to fit comfortably in most carry-on bags and many backpacks.

The tripod's center column is reversible, and the N-2004 comes with a short center column so that you can set up extremely close to the ground for ultra-low-angle shooting. With the short center column installed, you can set the legs at their wide angle (80°) and shoot from only 6.7" from the ground.

Forged aluminum results in stronger components than the traditional casting process that's often used for tripod chassis. Forging leads to more compacted metal and enhances the integrity of metal grains so they remain consistent and continuous. This leads to a longer product life and better performance
An anodizing surface treatment, produced by an electrolytic oxidation process to increase the thickness of the natural oxide layer on the surface of metal parts, is applied to increase corrosion & wear resistance and surface hardness, and to enhance color durability
Minimal diameter difference between each leg section for greater overall stability
Silicone twist locks for leg stages
Anti-leg rotation system makes setup faster
Automatic leg-angle lock mechanism for speed and convenience – independently lock legs into place at three different angles: 23°, 52° & 80°
Short center column allows the tripod to reach extremely low positions – minimum height of 6.7"
An additional mounting plate attaches to the unscrewed monopod leg to mount a camera. A wrist strap is included for security in case the operator's grip slips
Leg warmer on the monopod leg facilitates handling in extreme weather conditions and helps protect it
Center column hook allows you to add a ballast for a sturdier setup in windy conditions
Reversible 1/4"-20 & 3/8"-16 screw on mounting plate enables the attachment of virtually any camera, camcorder, or head
Well-designed padded travel bag with sturdy shoulder strap for carrying

Comments about Sirui N-2004 4-Section Aluminum Tripod:

This is a great looking tripod with nice features. It is one of the few I could find that will reverse fold which is great for traveling to keep it compact. The leg locks work well and it is quick to setup. The included accessories are a nice bonus (including short coloumn!), although the bag is a tight fit with a head installed.

Unfortunately that's where my praise ends. This tripod puts weight over rigidity. With all the legs deployed I found it is barely usable even with a 50mm lens mounted to a d700. The slightest pressure causes the legs to flex and you get blurred pictures. Some of the twist comes from the column - even fully retracted, some from the spider - it doesn't appear to be machined from one piece to me, and the rest from the legs.

If light weight and compact folded length are your most most important concerns, this may still be a decent choice. I would recommend always hanging weight off the center column and using a remote release though.

As for me, I went with a much heavier duty benro tripod and feel I made a reasonable compromise on size/weight in exchange for a rock solid tripod.

Comments about Sirui N-2004 4-Section Aluminum Tripod:

This is a robust tripod, perfect for landscape and studio. I use it with a Manfrotto 410 geared head, and it is a good balance for this hefty head. I don't worry that it is going to tip over. While aluminum is heavier than carbon fiber, it is not really an issue unless you are hiking. Excellent value - folds up short without head, comes with case, carrying strap for tripod when case is not in use, additional short center column, screw-off leg makes it into a monopod. Hook for weight on center column. Click stops on legs. Spikes on feet screw in and out. Has everything you need, thoughtfully engineered and packaged.

Have been getting blurring of pictures from vibrations caused by too lightweight of a tripod. Got this tripod which is rated at 33 lb. capacity and I no longer am getting motion blur on my photos.

Comments about Sirui N-2004 4-Section Aluminum Tripod:

The tripod is primarily used in the field for photographing landscapes and wildlife and serves additional duty as a support for a large spotting scope. The tripod is beautifully finished and comes with a padded bag. The bag is large enough to hold the tripod with the ball head attached; you just have to make sure that the knobs on the ball head are not below the legs. One of the legs can come off to make a monopod. That is just cool. (You just need to remember to put it back) It also has a short extension tube for inverting the ball head and getting really close to the ground as the legs can be set at 90 degrees to the center column. At the very bottom of the legs, if you turn the rubber foot, spikes come out which I think are for protection to keep away all the admirers. It also seems to have a hook on the bottom of the post, in the middle, for adding weight to stabilize the tripod. The legs have multiple click stops that permit the tripod to be set at various configurations and seem very sturdy overall. It handles the weight of a dslr with a large prime lens attached very well.Have not been able to find anything that I do not like about this tripod, even though I wish it had levers to tighten the legs instead of twist knobs.

Comments about Sirui N-2004 4-Section Aluminum Tripod:

I bought this product for shooting stills of fishing flies with a Macro lens.
Here are things I like about the product:
~Spikes that protrude/retract from rubber feet are great
~The Monopod ability with one of the tripod legs is an excellent design
~Overall build quality, fit, and finish are much better than the price would suggest.
I was looking at an Induro (that came highly recommended from a friend) and the Sirui. Because none of my local camera shops stock Sirui I took a chance. Of course, B&H had it in stock, the price was competetive and the monopod ability was intriguing. I am really glad I took a chance on the Sirui. I always believe there is a mfgr out there that wants the business and puts the money and ideas into the product...not marketing that we end up paying for.
