  • Knobs for Pan, Tilt & Tension
  • 66 lb Load Capacity
  • Quick-Release Plate with Anti-Twist Pins
  • Arca-Style Clamp for Quick Release
  • 90° Tilt, 360° Pan
  • CNC-Machined Aluminum Alloy

The Sirui K-30x Ball Head is an extremely sturdy head with control knobs for pan, tilt, and tension, plus an Arca-style clamp for the included quick-release plate. The pan, tilt, and quick-release knobs are all separate, while the tension knob is integrated into the ball-locking (tilt) knob. The head tilts 90° for portrait orientation, and the quick-release plate features two pop-up pins that prevent camera twist when it's tilted 90°. There's also a video pin on the plate to keep camcorders from twisting.

The interior ball locking of the K-30x head has a sphere tolerance of 0.01mm, and it's equipped with an orientation-memory locking dial. This helps yield a high load capacity of 66 lb. The quick-release clamp features a secondary release button that prevents any inadvertent disengagement of the camera/plate from the clamp, thereby adding to the head's overall security & stability. The Arca-style platform conforms to standard sizes, so you can use compatible plates from other manufacturers.

The three control knobs allow a photographer to exercise extremely fine control over the orientation of the camera, whether it's a DSLR, 35mm, medium-format camera, or even a camcorder. Pan, for instance, can be adjusted while the tilt stays locked, enabling precise movement that's measurable – there are degree markers at the panning base for panoramic photography.

The K-30x is CNC-machined from an aircraft-grade aluminum alloy and anodized with an oxidation treatment that ensures a durable, high-quality finish.

Arca-style quick-release clamp with secondary safety lock
Two bubble levels (horizontal and vertical) on the quick-release platform ensure that your framing hews to the horizon in either portrait or landscape orientation

Very solid, well built quality feel and strong clamping with no perceived creep or movement. I'm using it with a Canon 5DMkII & 70-300L lens and I'm confident this ball head would secure a heavier combo as well. The large single clamping knob is easy to use even with gloves. The integrated friction adjustment is easy to set and works by limiting the knob movement when loosening. I wasn't sure if a tool or coin was required to adjust this, but just light finger pressure is all that's needed. I did find a video on the Sirui web site which demonstrated all the features but only found it after my purchase. The QR plate system is well thought-out and operates smoothly. My other Arca style plates fit and clamp nicely but the secondary release pin that prevents the plate from sliding out inadvertently only works with the Sirui plates. The level indicators are quite small and partially covered with the camera in place so aren't a usable feature to me.
One small dislike is that the pan locking knob must be unscrewed a full turn or more or else there is some interference when panning the head. Once un-clamped fully the pan is very smooth and clamping again is secure, but the pan clamp knob can not be used to add a bit of friction.
I don't have any regrets and hope this ballhead will give me many years of service.

I bought this ballhead to use for nature and wildlife photography. The heaviest rig I use with this head is a gripped 5D2 with a 300mm f/4 lens.

The first thing I noticed is that it is very low profile, which I like because it allows me to get the camera closer to the ground when the tripod legs are flat. But what I really love about this head is that it is rock solid when locked down. There is no creep, whatsoever, even while I am carrying the tripod over my shoulder. I also like the safety lock on the quick release. And of course, the price point is a very attractive feature of this head.

There are a few minor things that I don't like. First, the panning base lock is not nearly as solid as the main ball. But, it takes a fair amount of effort to override it, and it hasn't been a problem for me in the field. Also, the tension screw is not very easy to use. A knob would have been much more ergonomic.

However, none of this matters because there is one deal breaker for me. This head sticks horribly when moving the main ball in the panning direction. It is very smooth in all other directions. The panning base is also smooth. The sticking problem also seems to get worse in colder weather.

When I first started to use this head, I didn't notice the problem. But after about 6 months of use, I noticed that the main ball would become completely stuck when trying to turn the main ball in a panning motion. I contacted Argraph, the service company, and they promptly sent me a replacement. However, the new one showed the same symptoms as the old one, and after a couple of months, it was as useless as the first one.

Argraph got me in contact with their Sirui representative. His explanation to me was that this ballhead was not designed to be used in this fashion. If you want to move the head in the panning direction, you should use the panning base. He said the main ball was only for pointing the camera up and down, or moving it to a vertical orientation. To me, this completely defeats the purpose of having a ballhead. If I need to tighten and loosen two knobs to operate the head, I might as well be using a 3-way head. I've used several other brands of ballheads, and have never experienced this problem with any of them. For this reason, I cannot recommend this ballhead to anyone that needs to move the camera. It might be ok for studio work where your subject is always static.

Comments about Sirui K-30x Ball Head:

I had a 100 some dollar Giotto ball head before. That was a piece of [*] I wish I had never bought in the first place. This Sirui head is 1000 times better at about the same price. It's much smoother, sturdier and easier to use. Given the price point you know something has to give. But I haven't found that something just yet. Hopefully, durability isn't that something... We shall see.

WOW a great ball head. I must admit that it is a dash larger than I had expected. It is a bit big for my current tripod, but it works really well. Great quality, good craftsmanship and sturdy. I plan to purchase a larger tripod for this ball head and a K-20X for my current tripod when funds allow.

Comments about Sirui K-30x Ball Head:

I have just started using the K-30x ballhead, and this is my first ballhead that I have used, so I am not sure how it compares to others. I have a Nikon D5100 with kit lens and 55-300mm lens. The ballhead does not budge when tightened down securely. Maybe I am not doing it correctly, but the tension adjustment does not seem to be consistent. I adjust it the way I want it, and after a while it seems to change, without me changing it. The panning adjustment is also rather stiff, and takes a fair amount of effort to get it to move. Otherwise it seems like a great piece and I am really happy with it. It is so much better than the old pan style head that I was using before.

Comments about Sirui K-30x Ball Head:

Can't speak to durability yet, but it operates very smoothly, finish is excellent, and it's certainly strong enough for anything my tripod will support. I like the panning base, although the locking mechanism isn't strong enough to keep it from slipping if you twist it on the tripod screw by holding the head (instead of the ring at the base), which you shouldn't do anyway.
The instructions on the friction control are simple enough but they didn't work very well; I suspect the instructions are the problem, not the head.

The built in level is also a nice plus.Highly recommed it to anybody.

Worry about the tripod, not the head. This thing is rock solid and easy to use. Better than imagined. A little top-heavy when paired with the vanguard 253 carbon tripod but works well. The plate covers my battery cover on my canon t1i which is a pain in the butt when doing time lapse.

I had RRS most expensive tripod head which had excellent workmanship but a clumsy design. I switched over to the Arca Swiss which I liked more, but this tripod head for 1/3 of the price tag beats any of the two I owned without question. The quality of workmanship is superb, the friction control similar to the Arca Swiss but even better and the friction movement as well as the pan head movement is buttery smooth.Simply put it, this is the best ballhead I have ever had. Superb design and very high quality of workmanship. You have to use one to believe it.

Install it on my Manfrotto monopod. Use it for taking still pictures and making movies with my Nikon D800.

Smooth operation, great value. I like the push button camera plate safety pin and also, the friction preset, which works well. I use it on a Sirui 3004 legset, very good combination!

Comments about Sirui K-30x Ball Head:

I purchased this to replace the pan head on one of my tripods. I am very pleased with the construction and performance. This is for a 3/8 screw so if you have a 1/4 screw on your tripod just purchase the 3/8"-16 to 1/4"-20 Reducer Bushing by Oben fo a couple of dollars.

Comments about Sirui K-30x Ball Head:

I have been using the Sirui K-30X for a few weeks now and I'm impressed. The movement is very fluid and the tension knob works like a charm. This ball head is very solid.
I use it with a Slik Pro 700DX tripod and Sirui P-326 monopod wich is a very nice match.
It supports a Canon 60D + a Canon 70-200mm F4 + 1.4X converter. I even used it with my 15X70mm astronomical binocular and it was very stable.

when i ordered this ballhead i wasn't sure of the size, now that i've got it,it seems to be the right size for my application.(d-800 with 24-70).the tension adjustments are just right(not to loose, not to tight),i can easily find a good point to adjust.one thing i wanted to note is that this ballhead has a tension control memory adjustment, which is a little adjustment control button on the main control knob that allows you to adjust for zero setting while keeping just enough tension to hold the setup.i haven't seen this mentioned any other place in the reviews so i thought i would mention it.the safety button to hold the mounting plate is another nice feature,i'm glad they put that in.i would have to say that "for the $$ it was well spent".

Comments about Sirui K-30x Ball Head:

The ball head is primarily used in the field for photographing landscapes and wildlife and serves additional duty as a support for a large spotting scope.

The ball head reeks of quality and has two separate bubble levels - one on the side and one on the top. The panning movement is superb. The ball head even comes with a base plate which is an optional extra in many of the very expensive brands. The ball head uses 'arca swiss' clamp and is precision made, fastening with a quick turn of the knob, the camera feels quite secure on it. I purchased additional quick release plates to attach to the telephoto lens and to the spotting scopes.

Comments about Sirui K-30x Ball Head:

I have been using this for about a week now and I have got to say what a difference this has made. My previous ballhead is a cheap piece of junk compared to this. I have a 7D and usually put on a 70-200 on it. There has been no drop at all once I lock it down with the resistance. The downside is weight but when you are able to get the pictures right the first time it is worth carrying the extra little weight this is.

I had resisted buying a quality tripod and ballhead for years and I can certainly echo what everyone says "it will make a difference".

I am using this with the M-3004 and am very impressed with both of these together. The monopod feature is great. I was initially thinking it was gimicky but it is useful for those times I can't use the tripod.

The nobs are easy to use. I had read some people complain about the resistance control label moving but that doesn't bug me at all as I just turn it without looking to the setting I want. No need to see it. They are just numbers and a dab of superglue would put it where you want it.

My one other downside besides the weight is the bubble level. Its just hard to read so I end up using the in camera level.

Comments about Sirui K-30x Ball Head:

The K-30x Ball Head build quality is very stout which makes me happy.
Here are some things I noticed:
                                              ~Very smooth with minimal dials
~Fit & Finish is very good
This is my first ball head and I like it. That said, there are a couple of things I need to get used to. One would be that the indexing dial numbers seem to go higher as you are relaxing the ball to a point where it is stable yet can be manually moved for fine adjustments. The other thing is that the lock knob (for the camera plate) seems to be in the way for tilting the camera 90 degrees for shooting vertical. I have not shot pictures vertical yet (just playing with it when it showed up)and it may be a quick adjustment or two in order to dial everything in.
I do like the locking mechanism on the plate. There is a spring action brass pin that is a secondary safety in case you are making adjustments and forget to fully lock the plate prior to moving. Any extra insurance like this as a backup that will protect expensive camera bodies and lenses is a huge plus in my book.
