I don't know what the expensive brands of binoculars offer that the Nikon Monarch 10x42 doesn't, but to me there essentially isn't anything that could be better. This is my first pair of binoculars so I can't make compar- isons, but I am so excited to own this pair and am, except for one minor detail, completely satisfied. I am a beginner birder and the first time I saw mature and immature male wood ducks and the females on the opposite shore of a lake, the glasses already paid for themselves. The clarity, depth of field, color, field of vision are all excellent. The binoculars are comfortable to hold - both in form and material, and easy to focus. I am as fired up about using the binoculars as I am about seeing the birds. I had used a friend's Nikon Monarch 8x42 before I bought my pair and was immediately sold. I ordered my pair by phone and was a little undecided about ordering the new 10x42 because I liked the 8x42 so much. The salesman helped with the decision and I'm happy without reservation except that the cover for the eye piece is nearly useless because it doesn't stay on tight, so that wasn't improved. The 10x42 was also as affordable as the 8x42. How great is that?

I was disappointed by the alignment of the optics. I felt they had "double vision" and thus caused eye strain.

I wear glasses and did much research about which binoculars would work for a trip to Costa Rica. After talking with birding friends and the helpful representative from B&H, I got these Monarchs. I am really excited to use them on a tripod for "long watches" and they are not too heavy to haul around on the trip. These are the first binos that I could actually adjust to my eyes, with my glasses on, and see great detail with a quick focus. I love them and look forward to seeing EVERYTHING! The attached lens covers are the best!

Bought as a gift for my father. He uses them on hikes, bird watching off the back porch. He wears glasses and these are comfortable. He also tends to throw them in the back seat going to work. The rubber housing seems to protect them well enough.

Comments about Nikon Monarch 3 All Terrain 10x42 Binocular:
My wife and I use binoculars mainly for birding. We've limped along with a lower price pair before deciding to spring for the Nikons. We are very pleased with them so far. The image is incredibly clear. The Nikon warranty has to be one of the best around. We have a feeder on our back porch, so we really appreciate the close focus. Nothing but good to say so far.

Comments about Nikon Monarch 3 All Terrain 10x42 Binocular:
I use them for everyday birdwatching, sport observation at the beach, some stargazing at night, and scenic observation from viewpoints. They have excellent clarity, good resolution and the details you can see on birds are just amazing.
I love the way they feel in the hands, I never feel I need a tripod during the day; even at night while stargazing, because of the 10x power, they are pretty stable in my hands; even though the 42mm objective is not ideal for astronomy. I love they way you can focus on your subject very quickly with the smooth dial. They also focus very close so if you manage to get close to an animal like a bird, you get to see incredible details with great resolution and colour.
My unit came with a small spot in the inside of the lens on the left eyepiece. However on day 2, the spot had moved which suggest it was probably a piece of dust that moved elsewhere inside the barrel with the normal handling movement; the quality of the image was unaffected.

We use it to view wildlife and check out areas that may be useful for some photography. The Monarch is very adjustable and provides a very clear view of what is being looked at. Also, very adjustable for folks that need to adjust to their face width and good for eye glass users also. Like the weatherproofing

I've had cheap binoculars all my life and decided to get some nice ones when my last pair broke. These were highly rated and I have had good results with other Nikon products so decided to give these a try. The optics are exceptional and very bright. The rubber coating looks like it will help take some abuse. The case and neck strap are very good quality. Warranty is exceptional. I am very pleased with this purchase.

This binoculars have more eye relief than many and I can use them with glasses but I wish they had a little more. They are OK though. Aside of that they are really good in every respect, a little chromatic aberration but just a little and in extreme circumstances and most people would not notice, to get rid of that you would need $2000.00 ED binoculars.
They are very clear and good in low light.
These binoculars are great and I am sure they will last a lifetime.
