I purchased the laptop to replace a Gateway FX series (P-7801u) that was plagued with video issues. It is a definite upgrade but the Toshiba seems to be a bit quirky. The screen doesn't like to turn on after the laptop goes to sleep. Even though the computer comes back the screen remains off and only comes back when the logout screen (ctrl-alt-del) is called up. And USB seems to have issues with the port replicator/dock I use with it (which is also from Toshiba). However, these problems all seems to be issues with the pre-installed software. I recommend that if you to buy this system, consider wiping the drive and re-installing everything. Other than that, the laptop seems rock solid, fast and the 3D features work flawlessly and are amazing. The battery life is short but that is to be expected from a system supporting a 17" hi-res screen and two hard drives. The hybrid drive is excellent alternative to having a full SSD and performs well. The keyboard is comfortable but does not have the feel of a standard keyboard however the keys have ample spacing for those with big hands. If you want to maximize the laptop's speed, I recommend getting a full SSD for the boot drive. Laptops containing similar features cost at least $200 more and even then, don't have every feature included on this Qosmio X775. If you can handle the software issues, I highly recommend this laptop.

Wanted to make sure you are aware of our losses, so you don't have to suffer the same... purchased three Qosmio 7272s last year. As of today, all three have suffered hardware failure. Neither of the three could ever game for long without over heating resulting in blue screens. One computer never was used for gaming, but started having trouble a year later with Lightroom. The failures required replacement of the motherboard, hard drive and ram. Took over one month to troubleshoot with Toshiba to get it in for work and then two months to get the computer back. This last failure on one of the others just happened and missed the warranty by seven days. With the first failure, was told the laptop does not have good circulation and tends to overheat melting the internals when it runs at 80 percent + capacity.
Be wise and make sure you know what you want from your laptop, including level of service and capacities before purchasing.
My previous five star is now a one star.

Comments about Toshiba Qosmio X775-3DV80 3D-Ready 17.3" Notebook Computer (Red Horizon):
I was looking for a Windows 7 laptop with blu-ray, 1080p native resolution, and a quad core i7 processor. This Qosmio X775-3DV80 has more than surpassed my expectations!! I had no clue that I was buying a 3D ready laptop, and it even came with a FREE set of wireless 3D glasses, the real deal, not the disposable ones you see at the movies. These are the glasses that you have to charge by USB. I thought that was an added bonus! I did not buy this laptop for PC gaming, but my oh my, I'm glad I tested the gaming capabilities. I've never been much of a PC gamer, but now that I have this laptop, I am a hardcore XBOX 360 user converting to a PC gamer. Playing games in 3D on a laptop with an XBOX 360 controller is a mindblowing experience. I seriously cannot go back to 2D gaming any more, I think I am spoiled now by 3D :)The harmon/kardon speakers AND subwoofer (yes, built-in subwoofer!!) really pack a punch. Music has never sounded so good on a laptop. The lows hit hard, not annoyingly bassy. The highs are ultrasonic, and the mids are very dynamic. Vocals sound clean and natural. Speech is especially good when watching movies or YouTube. The Dolby Advanced Audio feature really complements the harman/kardon speakers. This is one LOUD laptop if you turn it all the way up.As for performance, it is a quad core intel 2nd gen i7 processor that can handle anything you throw at it. I've got mine upgraded to 16 GB of DDR3 RAM right now and it is blazing fast. Also upgraded to a SSD hard drive (highly recommend because there are two hard drive bays) and my Windows Experience Index went from a 5.9 (stock RAM) out of the box to a 7.2 out of 7.9.The backlit keyboard is amazing. It is awesome enough to use daily when the lights are out, but not too distracting to where you can't focus on anything else. It has a great balance, plus you can toggle it on/off if you like. The blu-ray 3D player is great as well. I would highly recommend you download the most updated blu-ray drivers directly from Toshiba's website before attempting to watch a blu-ray in 3D. It will save you a couple of headaches, trust me! But overall, I am extremely pleased with the 3D blu-ray performance. I've never seen anything like it. This isn't like 3D at the movies. Because the screen is so close to you, the level of immersion just has to be experienced. Words don't do it justice.Wireless internet is simple and hassle free to set up. I immediately connected to my HOMEGROUP network with my 2 other laptops in the house and we are all happily sharing files. The keyboard is perfect. The raised tile keys are so easy to type on, and have a great feel to them. I also like the spacing of the keyboard as well. Much more room than a traditional laptop keyboard. Important for those all nighters or heavy internet users. Dedicated 10 key is a plus as well. The touchpad and physical buttons are another bonus. I saw some other Toshiba laptops without physical buttons and didn't really care for them. The touchpad has a natural feel and is not too sensitive, but just sensitive enough. I think they Toshiba got the precision just about right. The only thing I'm not crazy about (but not a dealbreaker) is the battery life. When unplugged you'll get an hour unplugged. It's not really a big deal, I just thought I should point it out. I just keep mine plugged in most of the time (draining the battery just enough and then charging to keep the battery life cycle long). I think that's expected though when buying this powerful of a machine. Also, this thing weighs considerably more than a traditional laptop. You could probably use this as a weapon, not kidding. Overall, I am extremely satisfied with this laptop. It had everything I needed, and more! B&H PHOTO had the lowest price online by about $400-500 compared to other online retailers. I'm glad I took a chance on B&H PHOTO. They even had various shipping options to fit my needs. I chose one day shipping, and they guaranteed it (money back refund). I ordered late afternoon around 4:00PM. My laptop was delivered 10:00 AM the very next day. Now that is what I call fast shipping!! This was my first time buying at B&H and it most certainly will not be my last!! I highly recommend them to anyone looking for a great deal, and quality service.

The Toshiba Qosmio X775 is a classy machine and for a laptop it is huge. The layout of the keyboard is clear and precise, the screen is a wonder to behold and although with the size you'd think it would be heavy, it's not. The one point that isn't so good is the size of the adaptor - now that is big.

We expected that The Red Horizon might bring some red accents but not as much as it did.Keyboard light would be more user-friendly if natural bright.

I bought this laptop specifically for commercial presentations using multi-image productions and for downloading images from my pro DSLR. The monitor is high resolution with good contrast and colour. With 8 GIGS of RAM, there is no chatter or streaming even with high end progamming. The only negative comment that I have about it is that it is obviously designed for gamers who like gothic/garish colours on the outside and inside of the case (red and black). Would have preferred a more professional look.

The Qosmio 3D was wonderful right from the box. It connected quickly to my Wifi and the picture and the sound was outstanding. I didn't expect to have such a sharp reaction to the video I placed in the DVD player. I have not found anything that is not top notch. I love the 17" screen even though it is heavier.
