Questions? Ask our experts:

The WorkForce Pro WP-4020 Wireless Color Inkjet Printer from Epson outputs 16 pages per minute in black and 11 pages per minute in color. In addition to one-sided printing, the WP-4020 can automatically print on both sides of the page, cutting your paper consumption by up to 50%. The printer's large ink cartridges (2400 black pages/1200 color pages), large paper input capacity, and high monthly duty cycle (1600 pages) clearly place this printer into the business machine category. Nevertheless, the printer's small footprint and low cost make it ideal for the home as well.

The printer's compatibility with a wide range of media such as plain, photo, and presentation paper provides an easy cost-saving alternative to outsourcing your print jobs. Additionally, the printer can be shared with all the computers on your network for further cost and space savings.

The printer's multiple connectivity options make it easy to print from anywhere. In addition to USB, Ethernet, and Wi-Fi connectivity, Epson Connect Email Print lets you print documents by sending them as attachments to the printer's dedicated email address. Additionally, the printer is compatible with both AirPrint and Google Cloud print.

I based my choice of this printer on two criterion: 1) Extract Hewlett-Packard from my life and rediscover my bliss. 2) Find a performance printer for which Adaptive Ink manufactures a CISS.Past that, I fell in love before I hit the switch.Setup is a breeze. This printer houses all of the appendages that hung off my ex-HP; so it was pretty-much plug and play. This printer has a duplexer built in. It also houses the paper cartridge on-board, and features a vertical-drop manual feeder in the back. Perhaps that accounts for the printer's large size (more on that later). Ink cartridges slide in smooth and sure. No leaky, throw-away printheads to try one's patience.Installation is one-click simple. Mine finished so fast, it caught me off guard. My old HP printer still would have been wheezing through every IP address in the universe in the time the Epson installed itself on my network. Then I installed two wireless printers. Both found their target in a snap.Once fired-up, print operation is smooth, quiet and fast. Many printers boast fast print times, but don't include arousal time. This Epson printer launches in seconds and spits out prints in a flash.Print quality is excellent. I especially like the programmable features like print density and variable drying time (duplexer). Some programmable features do not function with this printer –like certain user presets- but that's a small concession to a machine at this price point. It's four print-quality settings beat HP's three; and the result is evident.I love the manual-feed slot. That was a $75-option on the HP Officejet that always jammed. I print a lot of various-size labels; and the straight-through feed promises a trouble-free journey past the printhead.I don't like all-in-one component printers because one component usually fails before the others. And who sends faxes anymore?Others have commented on the printer's large size. It covers, in fact, enough real estate to float my Epson V33 flat-bed scanner right on top. That's my interpretation of all-on-one; and the two occupy less space than the HP Officejet Pro 8K and its counterpart scanner. If you do high volume printing, as I do, I recommend you seek-out the Adaptive Ink CISS (ink supply). But, whatever your printing volume, I recommend this Epson WP-4020.

This is my 3rd 4020.The first two became monochrome only printers when the blue (cyan) head clogged. I can unplug typical inkjets but the WP series uses large tanks that are some distance from the actual printhreads and Epson made no provision to inject cleaner at the heads. But you should get most of a year out of it. If you use aftermarket tanks, be sure to refill with dye-based inks, not pigment based inks which are more clog-prone.I wouldn't buy a multi-function printerin this series. If it dies, you lose the fax, scan and copy functions. Use a regular Multi-function inkjet with small tanks for that. The Wp-4020 is just a printer and is fast color for big printing jobs... for a while.

Bought 3 of these for office. After 18-20 months ALL started dumping yellow ink. Multiple jet cleanings would clear up for about 3-5 printings and return. Ran through huge amount of yellow ink trying to keep in service. Replaced with another manufacturer. Very disappointed.

Home user with some business in home use.

Pro: Ink is economical, prints rapidly, handles 2-sided documents no problem.

Con: The Wifi function is atrociously bad. It has never worked properly, despite many calls to Epson. If you are not plugging in directly, expect problems. Very bad color banding as well, even after head cleaning.

Other: It's a big, boxy printer, potentially a problem for some.

Verdict: Fine for some uses; poor for others. Too bad because with a little better design it could have been quite good.

I use this printer for household printing -- kids school reports, downloaded maps, some photos, etc. It is fast, and prints clear. The back-to-back feature is the fastest I've ever used -- in and out and it's done. The software is simple to set up and easy to use. The biggest drawback is that the machine grinds, clicks and whirrs as it boots up. I assume this is normal, but it is a little disconcerting.

We're using this as a home printer. We picked this one because we went through a lot of ink with our prior printer (Canon Pixma) and this is reported to have the lowest cost/page and fairly large cartridges so we don't have to go to the store that often. So far the printer runs like a champ. Quality is quite good and it is really fast. The only drawbacks are:a) the size - its pretty large so make sure you have some place to put it. Since it has built in wireless it can go pretty much anywhere.b) it does not come out of sleep mode automatically when someone prints to it like the Pixma used to. You can queue things to be printed but you have to go push the power button if it has shut down. Ours is running on wired ethernet, perhaps if we used wireless this would work (don't know).

But, whatever your printing volume, I recommend this Epson WP-4020.

Comments about Epson WorkForce Pro WP-4020 Wireless Color Inkjet Printer:

This printer is used for home medical billing as well as various home projects. I was originally using a b & w laser printer to cut costs on ink. After researching many different reviews, I was sold on the Epson WP-4020. So far so good, I am very satisfied. Easy to set up, and the printer is very fast. I like the economy feature on this printer as well as the 2 sided printing option.

Comments about Epson WorkForce Pro WP-4020 Wireless Color Inkjet Printer:

The printer itself is fast and the print quality is pretty good. I give it four stars because of the initial ink cartridges that come with the printer. Out of the box, my black ink cartridge did not work at all. To give you some background --I am a computer technician and the cartridges are not difficult to put in by any stretch.

After this happened, I did some research and found that this was a common complaint about the printer. The printer would not finish booting itself with the initial ink. I purchased a new set of ink a few days later and everything came up right away after that. So just don't be surprised if you have to do what I did when you purchase this printer. Other than that, it works fine.

Comments about Epson WorkForce Pro WP-4020 Wireless Color Inkjet Printer:

Epson said it was fast and it sure is! Very good quality printing for everyday business use. The very first time you turn on the printer, it takes several minutes for the printer to do it's initial ink charge, so be patient.

Overall, an excellent printer for the price.

I was skeptical about ordering from BH instead of [@], but the price was cheaper so I gave it a shot. My Workforce 4020 came quickly and I've been enjoying it. It's pretty fast, though in normal mode it's not nearly as fast as the specifications say. The economy mode is fast and uses little ink, but it nearly impossible to read the faint print. The automatic double-sided printing is a blessing. The printer takes up a lot of table space. The paper receiver trays are also flimsy and awkward.

Comments about Epson WorkForce Pro WP-4020 Wireless Color Inkjet Printer:

I bought this printer as a home printer to print documents and an occasional picture. I also wanted the ability to print work documents, which can be quite long.

This printer sits below our desk, so I wanted something simple without the scanner, LCD display, etc. I didn't need the additional features and didn't want them.

The wireless setup was easy (via a temporary USB connection to our Mac). The print quality is excellent for documents and good enough for pictures. The printer isn't quite as fast as a midrange laser, but it is much faster than my old inkjet.

Startup time from sleep mode is much faster than a laser and I don't have flickering lights like I did with a laser.

AirPrint works great as does Google Cloud printing. I can print messages for the kids while I am at work. Today a gorilla drawing appeared magically.

                              Dislikes:
                              * Some of the trays and openings seem flimsy.
                              * Like many inkjet printers, the ink still smudges.

Comments about Epson WorkForce Pro WP-4020 Wireless Color Inkjet Printer:

I bought this printer for my son to use with his laptop. When the printer arrived, it was far too big, but that was the smallest of my problems. It would not recognize the ink cartridges, the error messages we were getting were "low ink" or "corrupt ink cartridge". We promptly bought new ink cartridges in hopes that it would solve the problem. However, even with the new ink cartridges, we were getting the same error messages. In the meantime, my son could not turn in his homework assignments. I ended up returning the useless printer and buying a printer from a different well-known manufacturer that works beautifully. I only put 1 star in the rating area because it is a required field. The real rating is 0 stars.
