I was so excited to try these and I went to the Sony store to see if they would be on display yet and they were! So I got to spend about a half hour or so with these. Let me just say that after using these I still want them, I also feel like they will be truly appreciated viewing 3d PS3 games and your favorite movies instead of the Narnia movie that was on Demo. So yeah they seem awesome but there are a few concerns...1st I wish the screen appeared larger. It's big but IMAX would be Better! 2nd if the unit is not set Perfectly on your face I noticed very strong Blurring on the outside of the left and right of the image depending on which way I shifted the unit, I found myself constantly trying to adjust to get a GREAT blur free picture, I set the eye pieces all the way out as my head is larger so they where in focus but your looking through these lenses that have a curve to magnify the Image I assume and that is where this issue lies when you look at the outer parts of the lenses. Maybe someone with a shorter eye span would not have this issue, maybe the unit should be one Step larger? 3rd I found the forehead rest obtrusive and wanted it to go back further so I could really rest my face on the unit, this piece prevents this and you a really forced to look in from a distance instead of really being inside against the unit. 4th I'm not sure if the store didn't have the proper hdmi cable hooked up but the 3D effect was WAY more subdued than I had expected. I would really like to see Coraline on this as that movie has sick 3D! But as it was It was hard to really tell where the 3d was? Passive polarized glasses or shutter glasses work more extreme, but Im hoping something was wrong. 5th the menu controller on the unit would not control the Blu ray movie so the clerk had to hit Play on the Player from inside the cabinet, he said he did not know why it wouldn't work. He also said that Narnia was in the because it has the Best 3d effects. So that's about it, I did really enjoy this demo but I'm hoping that a New unit will be better, maybe the demo got messed up from people using it a lot i.e. the blurring issue? But this will be absolutely sick with wipeout HD in 3D! I would love to demo a new unit to rectify my reservations :)

As an early adopter you win some and you lose some. I lost on this one. I don't think its a bad idea and hopefully in the future a better, more usable design will be available. Getting a good fit takes some time and patience. Even once you get it fitted properly you'd better be careful not to move too much (hold your breath while playing games) or you'll end up seeing dark edges. When someone else wants to take a turn with it you have to start the fitting process all over again. The weight of the unit seems to grow over time. I can't find any way of positioning myself where it doesn't feel uncomfortable within a fairly short amount of time. I regret jumping the gun on this one. It seemed like a good idea based on the descriptions, but in reality its not going to get much (if any) use. Put your money towards a 3d display instead.

Comments about Sony HMZ-T1 Personal 3D Viewer:
I've been waiting for a long time for a device like this. One I can use in bed to enjoy movies, games, potentially work. Sadly this is not it. I attached the system to my PC. That worked well, the experience was less than a standard monitor. Not a deal breaker though, I really intend on playing. I attached it to my PS3 and got great audio. No video at all!!!! If there is one blue ray/ 3d player I expected to work with ease it would be the SONY ps3. I wont bother trying anything else, this will go back tomorrow morning. What an incredibly disappointing experience.

Comments about Sony HMZ-T1 Personal 3D Viewer:
I read many, MANY reviews before purchasing this item as the initial investment for new/unkown product is quite high and I must say, this personal 3d viewer does NOT DISAPOINT!!!
The initial head adjustment was a pain but once this step is finished, everything becomes a breeze. The setup menu is easy to follow and the options are clear and easy to understand even for beginners.
2D.
Viewing from regular HD source such as Blu-ray player or HD receiver is quite simply spectacular. The image quality offered by the dual OLED screens is gorgeous, deep blacks, vibrant colors and exceptional clarity.
3D:
This viewer gave me THE BEST 3d experience at home. Even better than my top of the line 55inch 3D Samsung plasma tv. There is no lag, the pop effect and illusion of depth is unmatched by any other 3d products I have been given the chance to try to this day. Best of all? there is NO CROSS TALK!!!!
2D Gaming:
Hooking this thing up to my PS3 was a gift from heaven!!! The vibrancy of the colors, the contrast, the brightness all come together to make a gamers immersion top notch. The closed nature of the device rids of all outside distraction making the gaming experience that much better and the sound quality is superior than any TV set available today (TV speakers that is)
3D gaming:
Uncharted 3 from Naughty dog was the first game I tried. I did feel a little disoriented at first so I did not play it more than 10 minutes without feeling nauseous. killzone 3 by Guerrila Games on the other hand felt more natural while playing in 3d. I will need to experience more to get used to gaming in 3d with the viewer.
Sound quality:
The virtual 5.1 effect is pretty good I must say. I am not an audiophile so my review on sound is pretty limited. I did enjoy the quality for myself especially watching movies like Bad Boys, Ghost Rider 2, Avatar etc...
Overall experience:
EVERYONE (except claustrophobic) has to try this viewer, go out in a retail store if you have to and wrap your head inside this thing!!! the closed nature of the viewer makes everything else in the room go away!!! Leaving you with a complete immersion into the movie (or game) you are watching... BEWARE of people around you as I have been scared a few times by one of my children approaching and touching me!!!!
this review makes this product sound great doesnt it? Well IT IS!!! BUT.... Yes, there is a but (or 2 even) The plastic used for the price of the item SEEM a little flimsy and low quality. This must have to do with the weight of it to begin with, I can only imagine how heavy it would be with top of the line plastic materials and this brings me to my second problem with the viewer. WEIGHT... the viewer itself is not heavy per-se but once you have it on your head for a certain amount of time, it gets very heavy and unconfortable. I have found myself holding the device after 25-30 minutes of movie watching. the best way to use it in my opinion is to lay yourself at an angle where the personal viewer rests on your head rather than sitting straight where the unit seems to weight itself down (gravity I suppose!!!)
Special notes:
You do not have to watch your movie alone!!! There is a HDMI out connection that allows a TV to be connected and the signal is split permitting everyone else around you without a personal viewer to watch the same source. Of course, they will not share the great experience you are but still!!!
While the OLED screens are said to be 720p, the viewer does accept 1080p signal. I was able to watch my Blu-ray movies without converting to a 720p out signal.
Best audio/video purchase I have made since... EVER!!!
Comments about Sony HMZ-T1 Personal 3D Viewer:
I gave the device 3 stars cause the cosmetics needs a revamp. I have long hair & it constantly rips a bulk out so I had to purchase a skull cap to prevent it from ripping any more of my hair. I tried several adjustments but this thing needs variation for noses, I have a tiny nose using this sitting upright slowly starts to sufficate me. Same applies to the light blockers, does not fit my face , constantly falling off, I decided not to use it all together. However under the hood this delivers a better 3D experience than your current 3D TV's. No filtres , no shadow or smokey effects. Its GREAT!!. Its just the cosmetics that needs more details for nose and cheeck bone structure.
Comments about Sony HMZ-T1 Personal 3D Viewer:
The unit works very well. I’m impressed with how far this technology has come. The 3D is awesome. Connecting to the PC was easy, the desktop looks very good and I don’t have any issues reading text on the screen. The most important thing to remember is to take time to adjust the unit on your head. I’ll admit it’s not a quick process but when done right there are no comfort issues that I’ve experienced. One part of the instructions I paid close attention to was “If it’s resting on your nose then readjust and start over. Mine comes close to my nose but does not even touch. I can feel the weight distributed over my forehead and the back of my head. In all I had to loosen the top strap, tighten the lower strap, install the thinner pad, and most importantly use the higher install point for the pad so the front comes down lower when the pad is on my forehead. I didn’t realize there were two different locations to snap on the forehead pad. For PC gaming I tested this with X-Plane 10 and it works great. To get the game to fill the screen you need to choose the highest resolution available for it in the game settings. I believe it was 1920x1080 it will get down scaled but will fill the screen and still look really good. I can clearly see all of my flight instruments etc. I attached my TrackIR clip to the top with some tape and was off flying with the ability to look around which is 100% awesome. TrackIR works fine on this headset with no issues at all.
Comments about Sony HMZ-T1 Personal 3D Viewer:
I find that it's best for watching blu-rays(3D or 2D), really feels like being in a theater all alone. Still experimenting with games, Battlefield 3 on pc is very immersive in stereoscopic 3D mode. It is slightly heavy but laying down in bed or kicking back in a recliner solves that. Overall I'm very pleased with this purchase, money well spent.
Comments about Sony HMZ-T1 Personal 3D Viewer:
Awesome! is all I can say.... I always wanted my own home theater and now I have my personal one, The Sony’s HMZT1. The Sony’s HMZT1 Personal 3D Viewer is the best 3D experience I had so far. The quality of the video is sharp and crystal clear. The headset is not as heavy as I anticipated when adjusted and wore properly, soon you’ll for get it’s even there. It is three times less the weight of the combat Modular Integrated Communications Helmet that a Marine wears daily. The viewing experience is like being in a movie cinema, the size of the screen and the surround sound feels like you are really there. The HMZT1 connected very well to all my HDMI sources. The Sony’s PlayStation 3, The Apple TV, Mac Book Pro, Blu Ray disk player and Sony’s 3D Handycam HDR-TD10. Viewing 2D is just as great as the 3D viewing experience. Even though a computer can be connected to the HMZT1 I will recommend viewing media and not working like word documents. Works fantastic with YouTube side-by-side 3D content as well. I recommend reading the manual before using the HMZT1 for the best experience. If you can afford it get it.
Comments about Sony HMZ-T1 Personal 3D Viewer:
I've been using consumer HMDs for over 15 years now. Started with the VFX1 and i-glasses in the mid 90's. The Sony HMZ-T1 is by far the best I've ever seen for the consumer. 720p at sub $1000 has been talked about for a decade and this is the first HMD to do it. I pre-order one and don't regret it one bit. The only downside on this HMD is that its not that comfortable to use for extended periods. I always walk away with a red forehead from the pad. You have to really tighten it down to keep your eye in the exit pupil of the optics.
Comments about Sony HMZ-T1 Personal 3D Viewer:
Once it's fit correctly you can enjoy the most immersive HD and 3D gaming and movie experience to date. I like to play iRacing, rFactor, LFS, GT5, F1, Killzone3, BF3, MW3, Socom 4, Uncharted 3, Batman and all the rest and it really does look pretty awesome, especially the 3d games and movies. Adding TrackIR to the mix with PC sims like iRacing, rFactor or Arma2 really makes it a true VR headset. Honestly after the 1st day I loved the image and even the sound, despite it being a DSP simulated 5.1. I was, however, thinking of returning it because of the fitment and comfort issues I was having for the money it costs. I had the time so I was very persistent in trying every combo of head pad and strap tension and finally figured it out. Using the thinnest pad to be closest to my eyes and the back rubber strap needs to first lock on around the little bump on the base of your skull as you put it on like a baseball cap with the top strap set for the right height to rest most of the weight on. It really should be fairly loose so it rests on the top strap while it's just propped up in place by the forehead pad. It should not really rest on your nose bridge at all when it's right. My primary use is for gaming and I really wanted to use my Tritton Pro true 5.1 headset which also has a mic with independent game chat control. After finding no other options I took the chance and modified mine. Nothing like experimenting on an $800 device and probably killing my warranty. Coming from the maker of the PS3 along with being marketed for gaming with no proper game chat audio control is just a huge oversight that needed post manufacturing correction so should a problem arise with my unit at some point unrelated to my mods then I hope they cut me some slack. Really Sony, I was very neat and careful. Anyway, once the unit is apart, each ear of the headphones can be unplugged from the main circuit board. I then had to carefully cut the plastic mounting frame to be able to actually remove them and keep the mounting strap intact. My unit is no longer an all in one AV player but with my actual gaming headset, which sounds amazing with movies as well, it's better than ever. I did also removed the plastic gear to allow each eye to be slid independent from each other which lets me get a little finer separation adjustment to even set the spacing between the 5 predefined indents. If you have the cash and love the best of the latest consumer tech and are patient enough to give it a chance or brave enough to mod it then you should really enjoy Sony's 1st offering of a wearable 3d HDTV. On a side-note I was able to even lose the HDMI cord and hook it up to an ActionTec My Wireless TV kit which already has low latency and an even ultra low latency Game mode setting. This can really help because then all you need by you is a power outlet for the HMZ-T1's control box and the ActionTec receiver unit. Works really well even in 3d.
Comments about Sony HMZ-T1 Personal 3D Viewer:
This is by far the best video glasses out there, trust me . I had purchased the myvu cristels and Sony blows theirs away ! It really is like your personal theater . Minus the idiot kicking your seat . Just hook up a device that is hdmi , by the way hdmi is the best quality hookup cable to date , thank you Sony ! And your up and running in minutes . I love playing my ps3 games in 3d . It really brings the game to the next level . My mouth droped wen I played it . I had to stop and wipe the tears from my eyes from all the excitement . uncharted 3 is to die for on this viewer . Way to go Sony ! Keep up the good work . Ps if you can integrate a mic in this viewer , and I hope the vita will be compatible , if it has hdmi out it should , thanks again Sony !
Comments about Sony HMZ-T1 Personal 3D Viewer:
I like this product. It can do 2D and 3D. It can be used for TV or video games. It has decent sound quality through the built-in headphones. I wish it didn't need to have an external box to plug things into and the biggest problem is that it's just so expensive! If price is not a problem then I would suggest this product. To Sony: Lower the price and this would be an extremely awesome gadget.
Comments about Sony HMZ-T1 Personal 3D Viewer:
I've tried and purchased many head mounted displays.. This is the first, that has lived up to my expectations. The display really is wonderful, and you do feel like you're in your own personal movie theater. The image quality and resolution are very good. You actually have to look hard to see any pixels. The headphones are good, I wish they were over the ear, that would make it even more engrossing. My negatives is that it will take a little while to make this HMZ-T1 comfortable, and find that sweet spot. I do find it resting on my nose to much which irritates me. The instructions state that you should adjust it so it does NOT rest on your nose. But it tends to slip down over time. And when that happens you tend to loose the center vision of the magnifying lenses. This in turn cause the edges of the image to blur a little bit. Making the need to readjust. My guess is that the straps start to expand a little bit because of the heat of your head, which causes it to slowly slip down. The forehead pads come with 3 different sizes to switch out for adjustment, I'm still trying to figure out which one works best for me. This HMZ-TI really is amazing, and I'm happy with it. But there is certainly room for improvement in the comfort area, especially if your going to game with it. I understand it's hard to make a head mounted display that fits a variety of people. This is certainly a great effort. If they do make a more lightweight & comfortable model, I'll be first in line to get it. It looses one star based on comfort. The image quality alone is very impressive. This is also the ultimate device for your Playstation 3 if you have one.
Comments about Sony HMZ-T1 Personal 3D Viewer:
I think this is a great device. It has a great field of view and display quality, which has been hard to find in HMDs in the past, and the 3d effect is VERY good. It works great with the nVidia 3DTVPlay product for playing games in 3d on the PC. Skyrim looks outstanding. The only downside is the unit is too heavy for extended use. They really need to take a look at a more cut-down design such as the Emagin Z800 had. If they could reduce the weight, this would be an outstanding product. I hope they release a version 2 of this product which is lighter in weight, because it would be a shame if this unit failed commercially, as many HMDs have in the past.
Comments about Sony HMZ-T1 Personal 3D Viewer:
Take a step into the screen with the HMZ-T1 OLED headset. Big thanks to Sony for bringing this to market, not too many other companies would take such a gamble. It is a very solid product for first generation, OLED screens look amazing, bright and colorful, good quality 3D and Much more immersive than most 3D TV's on the market. I am using it mostly for PS3 games like Uncharted. With the PS3 3D size settings tweaked, the headset provides incredible depth, so much effect that I found myself turning down the 3D setting in game. Bullet trails are close they make me blink. With headset on and Light blockers installed, the distractions of every day life slip away. Remember to pick up your controller or remote BEFORE you jump in. Like other first Generation products, there are some down sides to it. Biggest would be the shape and weight of the unit. It is a bit heavy and may be uncomfortable or unusable for some people. I find that the two back straps have greatest effect on the comfort. When adjusted properly it feels like I am wearing a hard hat and glasses with the weight evenly distributed between back straps, nose and forehead pad. People with really large&small heads or vision issues may have problems with this headset. If you are not sure, try it out at a Sony Store! I am really surprised Sony has not released a storage accessory for this yet, it really needs a protective case, its awkward shape makes for difficult storage when it's not in use. OLED panel lifespan is shorter than LCD, and pixels can burn over time. It seems sony has taken this into account and built in some protections that will extend the lifespan of the OLED's. When the headset is removed from head the screens turn off automatically, Great job. Thanks again to Sony. In the Next version, I would love to see 1080P screens and less weight in the front of the headset.
Comments about Sony HMZ-T1 Personal 3D Viewer:
This is the future!!!, played 3d games in my PS3 and looks totally amazing. Best 3d experience I ever had. Avatar looks so real! I'm very happy with my new toy.
Comments about Sony HMZ-T1 Personal 3D Viewer:
I wanna start this review with i was very excited to finaly receive the head set. i have dreamed of this sence i was a child playing a game. first the pros. picture is amazing and really does look like your in a theater middle row, if you imagine your self there. now for the cons. it took me 2 days to really learn how to adjust it just right. sounds simple but its not. and after 15min the forehead pad really really hurts and you just say to your self ok i cant take it any more. laying down doesnt help and will offset your pictureyo u spent time getting right. now on to the headphones i wanna say there no turtle beach. they stay on MAX and its not loud any louder i think they might start noise cracking. so for this reason you don't fell immersed in the games action. but im not giving up i will be attaching them to a full face helmet and after my warenty is up the head phones are out of there and im adding my turtel beach. so do i recommend this product? my answer would have to be yes and no. yes if this is something you really want and plan on making tweaks. no if you think this is gonna be my new favorite hat. its for a limited market.
Comments about Sony HMZ-T1 Personal 3D Viewer:
I love this product and have watched a few movies and several episodes of tv with it. Everything looks great, but for some reason the 3D effect is extremely subtle. I have a PS3 hooked into my Panasonic 50" 3Dtv and did a comparison of the two units in 3D with Avatar and the new Pirates movie. The difference was night and day, almost like the difference between a movie shot in 3D and one converted to 3D afterwards, so it's very noticeable. I'm hoping that the Sony reps that reply to posts on this board might reach out to me on this since I don't know if it's the machine or if it's me. If you're not into 3D, or don't care, this is still an awesome gadget.
Comments about Sony HMZ-T1 Personal 3D Viewer:
The unit's design and quality is great. It allows for adjustment of space between eyes. The image is beautiful and the sound great. While it is on the heavy side (from a comfort stand-point), once laid back in a recliner or office chair, the weight issue disappears. I returned mine - the only way to adjust distance to lenses from eyes is by moving the device back and forth - since it mounts on your forehead and back of the head, my comfortable position puts the device just barely to far away from my forehead (even after using either of the 3 choice forehead). pads). Worst even, at this distance, each eye can't see the whole screen - and you loose sight of edges of the screen. I just can't use it. About me - I don't wear glasses, my head size is normal towards big (normal for a tall guy) - which is about the biggest the unit will allow. My eyes can handle just fine telescope eyepieces - same technology used here - allowing for focused images to be displayed really close to your eyes (see: eye relief). I do just fine with 3D TV, 3D movie theater and Nvidia's 3d technology. The bottom light shields come in a plastic bag and while it takes 2 minutes to attach, it also takes 1 second to unintentionally un-attach, which requires another 2 minutes of work, multiple times during one movie - if I'd keep the unit, I'd glue them on, but why have to do that on an expensive Sony product. My recommendation - try first, buy afterwards. The device is great, but it will take getting used to/training your eyes and the effort is not worth $800.00+

Comments about Sony HMZ-T1 Personal 3D Viewer:
I use glasses to see from far because at long distances things just get blurry for me. If the view on this device is set to simulate a 150" screen at 12 feet, will the picture still be sharp for someone that requires glasses like myself? This is a deal breaker for me and unfortunately there are no places where I live that I can go to try out the product myself. If I can get a response from someone who's nearsighted as well and has tried out the personal viewer and is able to get a clear picture, I'm sold.
Comments about Sony HMZ-T1 Personal 3D Viewer:
I think its going to be hard to top sony with some better, congratulasions for a great product

EVER!!!

Awesome! is all I can say....

I use glasses to see from far because at long distances things just get blurry for me. If the view on this device is set to simulate a 150" screen at 12 feet, will the picture still be sharp for someone that requires glasses like myself? This is a deal breaker for me and unfortunately there are no places where I live that I can go to try out the product myself. If I can get a response from someone who's nearsighted as well and has tried out the personal viewer and is able to get a clear picture, I'm sold.
