The Nikon 1 J1 Mirrorless Digital Camera with 10-30mm / 30-110mm Lens (Red) is a compact and easily portable digital camera with both a 10-30mm f/3.5-5.6 VR Zoom Lens and a 30-110mm f/3.8-5.6 telephoto lens included. The mirrorless design allows the camera to be extra-small and lightweight, while still retaining all of the best qualities of a mirrored model. Featuring a 10.1 MP CX-Format High-Speed AF CMOS Sensor and an EXPEED 3 dual image processor, this small device packs some punch. The sensor enables great photos even in low light, while the EXPEED 3 enables superior system performance, high-speed processing, advanced phase detection autofocus and high-speed data transfer rates.
The included 10-30mm f/3.5-5.6 VR zoom lens features up to 3x magnification and a silent stepping AF motor (STM). It has image stabilization (VR II) to combat the effects of camera shake. The angle of view ranges from 29° 40" to 77°. The lens's minimum focus distance is 0.66' (0.2m), and the filter size is 40.5mm. The 10-30 mm is a versatile lens for applications ranging from wide-angle to tight portrait shots, and applies 3 aspherical lens elements to ensure high image quality, even at the widest aperture settings. The 10-30mm zoom range enables excellent capture of fine detail, even in far-away shots. Internal Focusing / IF technology enables more compact, lightweight construction, as well as a closer focusing distance. A multi-layer lens coating helps reduce ghost and flare to a negligible level.
The included 30-110mm f/3.8-5.6 telephoto lens (81-297mm 35mm equivalent) works great for isolating subjects from their backgrounds with clarity, and also has Internal Focusing / IF to maintain compactness of size--even when using the zoom. It also has image stabilization (VR II) to combat the effects of camera shake. Its telephoto coverage makes it great for a wide array of scene types, from sports to portraits. Enjoy superior sharpness and color correction-even at the widest aperture. Your photos will be crystal clear and sharp, even those taken from far away. Capture sweeping vistas with the wide depth of field. Nikon's Super Integrated Coating helps reduce ghost and flare to a negligible level, and also assists in the creation of superior color balance and reproduction. ED (Extra-low Dispersion) glass reduces chromatic aberration to allow for superior sharpness and color correction. The lens's angle of view ranges from 8° 20" to 29° 40". The lens has a minimum focus distance of 3.3' (1.0m) and a filter size of 40.5mm.
The J1 camera has an interchangeable lens system, allowing you to select from 3 optional 1 NIKKOR lenses in addition to the included one. There's even a lens designed specifically for movie filming. Swapping lenses is quick and easy, enabling you to stay at-the-ready at all times. Aside from the 10-30 and 30-110 mm focal lengths of the included lenses, you may choose a single focal length of 10 mm or a 10-100 mm zoom.
A highly responsive autofocus and a fast shooting speed ensure that you never miss a moment. You get 10 fps continuous shooting speed in autofocus mode, so your camera won't lag behind the action. An impressive 73 point AF array gives you amazing clarity, even when capturing fast-moving subjects. A large 3.0" LCD color screen features a 460k-dot resolution and an anti-glare coating for easy viewing, even in bright sunlight.
Enjoy one-touch Full HD (1080p) movie record mode-and the ability to capture still images while recording! Add a slow-motion effect to make your imaging more dramatic. Experience the Motion Snapshot One-Touch Photo Animation Experience to bring your photos to life. This feature essentially creates a picture slideshow where there would otherwise be merely a single image. Thanks to Smart Photo Selector, the J1 chooses the best of the images you've taken, so all you have to focus on is getting the shot you want. Let the camera do the work for you while you do what you love and stay in the moment. Enjoy easy access to advanced features with a menu that is easy to follow, no matter how much photography experience you've had.

Hmmmm....the Nikon J1. What is to be said about this technology revolution? Easy? Full-proof? Simple?
I'm no photographer, but I was transformed into the Amsel Adams of Arlington, Virginia with the Nikon J1 camera. It's almost too easy to use, so I guess true nerds might find this camera disappointing. But as a photography neophyte, I can't rave enough about this award-winning camera.
It is so point-and-shoot. Nothing could be simpler than to record breathtaking images of everything from flowers to bugs to office furniture to dogs. I have had the camera two weeks and already have filled up a 32 Gigabyte chip with just stellar imagery of my daily surroundings. I wish I could say something "bad" about this product, but I cannot think of anything negative.
I did shop around and found that B&H really did have the best pricing on this camera. I did have to wait for the rabbi to bestow his blessing on this Kosher camera, but I didn't mind the wait. The end product was just overwhelming.
I don't rave, usually. But about this camera I must ascend the mountaintop and tell you that this is the Promised Land of photography. No ifs, ands, and buts about it. Just the best.

I was amazed by the quality of the images, and surprised by the many features it has beyond what I was expecting (EJ filming at 1000FPS!) It is a beautifully designed camera that brings together the best of the SLR and the shoot and point worlds into one machine.

I'm still educating myself on my J 1. I wanted a simple camera that could fast frame, and give me choices, uncomplicated, but efficient. I thought this was a good package, as it inclueded to lenses. My only negative has nothing to do with the camera. I traded in my Canon and wanted the trade to be discounted off of my J1. I would reccommend this camera to someone who desires unsophisticated professional photography.

Still learning this camera but so far I like the results. My main reason for buying the Nikon was to have a smaller camera when traveling than my DSLR. It seems to be capable of most things I require.

Comments about 1 J1 Mirrorless Digital Camera with 10-30mm / 30-110mm Lens (White):
I guess I must be spoiled by my Sony NEX 5N camera which is in the same category as this, but everything is just wrong about this camera. First, there is no grip/raised area to hold with your right hand which is very weird and disconcerting. You cannot hold it with your right hand only - you need both hands or you will drop it. While the body is metal and feels quality, the lenses feel cheap and are made of plastic. Plus the zoom lens has a weird button you have to press to allow it to unlock so the barrel will come out - then the barrel has 2 levels of extension - the whole design just feels very cheap and *ss backwards. I mainly bought it because I had read that it has the least amount of shutter lag of pretty much any camera, including much more expensive DSLR's, but did not find it to focus or release particularly fast - so it did not live up to this claim from my experience. SD card clicks in but doesn't come out with a push/click - you have to pry it out with fingernails - it feels broken even though it's not. Modes that need to be accessed easily are in the menus which is annoying. The modes you choose from on the dial are cryptic. The pictures were terrible - they were grainy even at lower iso's (terrible at higher ISO's), flat, dull and nothing was very sharp. The flash is totally weird looking but did put out a good amount of light that had very good reach. I have never been a fan of Nikon, but am always open to any brand if they do something I need WELL. But they didn't do anything right on this camera. I think it's intended for the P&S crowd, so maybe they wouldn't notice any of these things. My NEX 5N is far superior and doesn't feel like a toy. In addition to the NEX, my other cameras are a Canon 5D MIII and a Sony A-77, so I am used to much better image quality. It's going back ([*]).

I used my camera for landscapes and portraits. Amazing, well balanced and fast. I'd have liked the cover to host also the 30-110 lens.
