Nikon's VR 10-100mm f/4.5-5.6 PD-Zoom Lens is an amazing power zoom lens designed for use with the Nikon 1 CX format mirror-less cameras. Its 27-270mm (equivalent in 35mm format) range gives you a true wide angle, a long telephoto and everything in-between. Because of the Nikon 1 camera's 1080p full HD video capabilities, this lens has a silent zoom motor using a voice coil AF motor (VCM) with three adjustable speeds--making it a perfect lens for shooting video. The Vibration Reduction (VR II) system makes it possible to shoot at much lower shutter speeds, with sharper results, than is normally the case.
Using a High Refractive Index lens, aspherical elements, and extra-low dispersion glass, plus Super Integrated Coating, this lens delivers superb images, still or video. Internal focusing makes possible a smaller, lighter lens with a closer focusing distance.

Comments about Nikon 1 Nikkor VR 10-100mm f/4.5-5.6 PD-Zoom Lens for CX Format:
The one complaint I have about this lens is the zoom button is exactly in the wrong place for me. It needs to be rotated about 20 degrees downward or something. I wind up holding the camera differently than I do for my DSLR's.
I also find the hood will rotate when bumped and it messes up the image if you don't notice it. Overall, I am disappointed in the V1 and this lens combo. Great technology, poor ergos.
The rest of the lens is ok.

Comments about Nikon 1 Nikkor VR 10-100mm f/4.5-5.6 PD-Zoom Lens for CX Format:
I bought this lens on a whim, based on my satisfaction with other Nikon superzooms (such as the Nikon 18-200 VRII) and I am very, very happy I did.
I shoot RAW and I cannot find any differences in the photos from this lens versus the 10-30mm or 30-110mm lenses, meaning that this lens compromises very little in image quality and indeed makes a great super zoom lens. It does seem to have the most powerful VR I've used yet, easily getting the equivalent of 4 to 5 stops of handholding capability.
From a video perspective the lens is superb, it is quiet and very smooth both to zoom and focus. This is the first camera/lens combination that has allowed me to replace my dedicated video camera.
The lens is very convenient with such a large zoom range and it retracts when powered off so its not very big. I didn't think I'd use the lens much when I bought it, but I've found it almost never leaves my camera, I love it!

Comments about Nikon 1 Nikkor VR 10-100mm f/4.5-5.6 PD-Zoom Lens for CX Format:
Could be the one I received was out of adjustment but images at any focal length other than wide were soft or, at full tele, blurry -- even at shutter speeds in excess of 1/400 sec. This was after the lens firmware upgrade, too. I've seen on-line samples from others that suggest it should be quite sharp at 100mm (279mm) but mine wouldn't do it. With regret, I returned it. Someday I'll borrow another one and give it a try since I love the convenience of my Nikkor 28-200.

Comments about Nikon 1 Nikkor VR 10-100mm f/4.5-5.6 PD-Zoom Lens for CX Format:
This is an excellent video lens which works well for stills also. I use it on a V1. It is extremely quiet and fast when focusing. Obviously very well baffled. The power zoom works as advertised allowing smooth transition from the wide establishing shot to the detail shot. When zooming, focusing is maintained which is fairly amazing. Very strong optically. Minor distortions, but nothing that causes a problem. Obviously you wouldn't shoot architecture with this lens, or this system in most cases. Also obviously not a fast lens, but if it were, it would probably be too big for the camera. The entire V1 system is looking very strong to me. Purchased it primarily for video. The very high 24 mbps throughput rate is excellent.
