The 17-35mm f/4 Pro FX Lens for Nikon Cameras from Tokina is designed for use with a Nikon full frame digital or film camera. This ultra wide-angle lens gives you a 103.9° angle of view at the 17mm end of the zoom, and a bright, constant f/4.0 maximum aperture, making it ideal for low light photography. Two Super-Low Dispersion glass elements and one aspheric glass element produce superior contrast and sharpness, and help control chromatic aberration.
Tokina's One-Touch Focus Clutch Mechanism provides a quick and simple way to switch back and forth between autofocus and manual focus. The lens has been designed using improved seals, making it "water-resistant" (not waterproof), so that damp conditions won't spoil your shooting expeditions. The lens features a water-repellant optical coating, but is not safe to submerge in water or expose to heavy rain.

Excellent sharpness, good colors, excellent mechanical construction. Fairly compact and not too heavy.
The only flaws are the D800 sometimes thinks it's a DX lens (so need to turn off Auto-DX) and Lightroom does not automatically recognize the lens profile for lens correction (so have to tell it that this is a Tokina, then it works fine).
The Nikon 16-35 VR is marginally better but for double the price the difference is not worth it. And the 17-35 2.8 is 3x the price.
This is an excellent buy.

First of all, this lens is great. Its sharp in most of the frame stopped down. It feels strong and durable. Low distortion and not too bad vignetting.
However, my first little problem is this lens front hood thread blocks the Lee wide angle adapter from attaching to the front of lens.
I might be too demanding of this product, but my biggest problem with this lens is in the cold the focus goes beyond infinity and wont let me bring it back until it warms up. It doesnt freeze, I think the materials shrink and distrupt the focusing. It works perfect once it warms up again. I live in North Dakota where it is below freezing usually over 5 months of the year. Comments about Tokina 17-35mm f/4 Pro FX Lens for Nikon Cameras:
I have been using it for two weeks.
on 17mm the vignetting is obvious at F4 , but when you stop down to F5.6 or smaller aperture, way better.
For me , I always using 21mm at F4, sharp edge to edge start from F4.
Compared with canon 16-35mm f2.8 II , Only thing noticeable is the flare from when you trying to shoot the sun in ur frame, otherwise, this one performs great.
anyways, except the 82mm Filter Thread requires much more expensive investments on color,Uv,ND,Enhancing Fliters .
the other side of this lens is great.
BTW, this lens offer weather seal ,so dont afraid to take it out under rain . haha

I use the Tokina 17-35mm on a D800 mostly for landscapes and seascapes. I have been using the lens for about a week. I find the lens sharp at all apertures. Construction is very good. Previously, my favorite lens was the Nikon 20mm/2.8D prime, but now it is the Tokina. I am very happy with my purchase!

Comments about Tokina 17-35mm f/4 Pro FX Lens for Nikon Cameras:
I use this for new hotel rooms, lobbies and exterior shots that I develop where I want to get as much into the shot as is possible in an FX format. The shots are for personal use ~ not professional ~ but it is interesting how many pros I hire use my shots to set up theirs.
This lens is bright, shows little distortion through to the edges and is perfect for ultra-wide by a non-professional. I have no desire to publish, but what I want are shots that raise positive comments - understanding of the subject. This is not a replacement for Nikon 16 or 17mm lenses - but I don't need those at their prices. This lens does everything I need it to do on my D600 at this price point. If, like me, you are not a Pro ~ buy this lens.

Tried the Tokina lens and it works well as FX however you can use 18mm to prevent vignetting into 4 corners. It is fast in auto focus..It will be my primary lens for close up shot with wider angles.

Comments about Tokina 17-35mm f/4 Pro FX Lens for Nikon Cameras:
I have a 11mm-16mm Pro II from Tokina and have loved it. Upgraded from DX to FX and had to have similar lens for full frame. Having loved my DX Tokina I did not hesitate to try an FX version. Tried for about 30 pictures on a hike and could tell it was fuzzy or soft just from view finder. Switched back to Nikon 24mm-85mm kit lens and was totally sharp. When I got home it was even worse in LR4. Nothing in focus or extremely soft. Retest around my house and never got a good picture. Switch lenses and everything great.
My Nikon D600 is extremely clear with kit lenses that came with it. Maybe I got a bad one. Returning right now. I am leaning toward the Nikon 16mm-35mm f4 with VR. I have ordered several times from B & H Photo and they are the best.

Needed a wide angle lens and I went back and forth between this lens and a Nikon lens. This lens had good reviews for the most part. Nikon also had good reviews. It came down to the price, little less than 1/2 the cost of nikon. So I took a chance and very glad I did. This lens produces some very good photos. I am unable to find any chromatic aberration or distortion. I do notice a hint of vignetting but not very much[most will not see it]. It works very well with Nikon D800.

Comments about Tokina 17-35mm f/4 Pro FX Lens for Nikon Cameras:
I'm not a fan of super wide angle or fisheye photography. I wanted a lens to go a little wider than my 24-70, and I figured 16 or 17mm would be enough. Since the 16-35 Nikon costs twice as much, I thought 1mm less was worth the savings. So far I'm pleased with it's performance, if I did some pixel peeping I'm sure I'd find it not as sharp as the twice as expensive Nikon. If I could change something, it would be the lens cap. It slips out of my fingers when moving the release sliders. I would hate to damage the front element from a stupid lens cap slipping out of my fingers. I was really impressed at how fast I got my rebate check, it only took about 3 weeks.

Got this mounted on my D800 now and had time to put it through the paces. This lens performs well on the D800.I tested it on a tripod under controlled circumstances using a remote trigger with constant light and a constant focal distance. It is not sharp wide open but sharpens up well at f7.1 to f9. Defraction settles in a tad after that. I found this true at all focal distances. I shoot around f9 most of the time for landscape so this lens is great for me. Almost no distortion and very well built. Corners are soft wide open at 17mm but hey! its a ultra wide!
