The black SeaLife DC1400 Underwater Digital Camera is a true amphibian of a camera, working both on-land and beneath the surface. The camera comes inside a rubber overmolded polycarbonate waterproof housing, from which it can be removed for use on-land. Rubber armored and shock-resistant for rough handling and tough environments, the DC1400 boasts a depth rating of 200' (60 m). O-ring lubrication is not required. The camera features a 14 megapixel CCD sensor equipped with Optical Image Stabilization (OIS), a technology that reduces camera shake caused by hand movement. Select from 6 underwater color modes that give you sharp, colorful photos and HD video under any conditions. There are even 4 built-in digital color correction filters, which help restore colors that tend to get lost beneath the surface.

The 26 mm wide angle lens lets you get closer to your subject and still fit everything in-frame. Enjoy Super Macro Auto focus from 1.0" (2.5 cm) to infinity. You get a grand total of 25x zoom, with 5x optical and 5x digital. The large 3.0" (7.6 cm) LCD screen allows for easy on-camera viewing.

You'll find the controls convenient and easy to use: 5 widespread "piano key" style controls are easily accessible underwater with or without gloves. A large shutter button is also present, as is a fingertip-control lever enabling you to scroll through menus or zoom in and out without releasing your grip from the camera. The simple on screen guide takes the guess work out of setting up your camera. Let the DC1400 do the heavy lifting for you, so all you have to focus on is getting that great shot.

Record continuous High Definition video with sound. Take advantage of Manual shutter and aperture control in Ext Flash mode. Manual White Balance control is available via a short-cut key for fast and easy setting. In Spy mode, the camera automatically shoots continuous pictures at set time intervals. Choose from 27 Land Scene modes, which easily pre-set the camera with the optimal settings for the given scene.

The camera runs on a rechargeable lithium battery. Additional options are available for the DC1400: Add one or two SeaLife Digital Pro Flashes (SL961) and Photo-Video Lights (SL980) (sold separately).

Comments about SeaLife DC1400 Underwater Digital Camera (Black):

I bought this as an easy alternative than having to buy a point and shoot camera AND an underwater housing (As I am completely uncomfortable putting my DSLR underwater - plus those housings are super pricey). The specs look pretty good but I just could not get over how slow the shutter speed actually functions you take the picture, you wait a minute than your picture is being taken. That was completely unnacceptable for me as I planned on using it for dives where fish swim quickly! Also the camera had a cheap feel to the plastic etc. This camera is being returned and I will try something else for my underwater adventures

Comments about SeaLife DC1400 Underwater Digital Camera (Black):

I have owned severl point and shoot waterproof cameras including a Pentax Optio, a Canon DC10 and Fuji xp30 nd xp10 and the difference is huge. The DC1400 has am effective filter for underwater use that is pretty good. Vieo qualitu is pretty neat as well and for the price it makes q great entry-level camera for undewater enthusiasts. The housing feels very solid and the functions are good enough for getting started. The accesories are inexpensive as well and a good complements. I found a bit of lag while shooting but using the AF lock minimizes the issue. I strongly recommend this camera, if you are in a budget the little extra compared to other brands of point and shoot is worthy.

Comments about SeaLife DC1400 Underwater Digital Camera (Black):

I wanted to get an underwater camera for an art project. I tried a friend's little Canon D-something (an early version of the D10). It didn't have good enough quality for me, so I figured a [$] camera must be better. Not so. The housing worked well, but the bitsy camera you put in it is not good for much more than very casual photos. And it has a serious lag problem. This camera is way overpriced.

I purchased this camera for snorkeling. I have tried it in the pool and so far am not real impressed. It is impossible to tell what you are taking a picture of. I also bought the fisheye lens and it fogged up immediately and made it worse. The images are pretty good if you can capture something. I am really on the fence about this camera.

I am a photographer since 10 years ago but never had to shoot at sea. When the opportunity arose I did a diving course here in Brazil and started searching for this equipment category. I found this model of the Sealife DC1400 and bought. The product arrived in record time and already used in several dives in the Brazilian coast, and it really exceeded my expectations. The equipment is easy to use, without complications and with a very good photo quality. The HD videos are excellent too. Soon I will get some accessories, such as an external flash.

Bought this product for my boyfriend for a gift... He is a scuba diver and wanted to take pics on an upcoming trip. This camera is excellent value for the money, and I like that you can further invest in accessories (ie flashes etc) as you want/need/can afford then.. The staff at b&h were friendly and knowledgable.
