The Switronix TorchLED Bolt On-Camera LED Light is a 200W-equivalent light for attaching to the top of your camera – or (likely via an adapter) to a light stand for use as a "sun gun" on a set or on location. The 16-LED light is powerful enough to use as a fill light outdoors. The TorchLED features a brightness and throw (40-50') that put it in the range of halogen lights.
If it has a free Powertap output, you can use your existing 14.4V DC brick-style battery for powering this light – a Powertap cable is included. Alternatively, the TorchLED Bolt accepts a Sony L-Series-style battery to supply the needed power. Though it puts out the equivalent of 200W incandescent light, it draws just 22W at maximum light output. At 4100K, which is a blend of full 3000K and 6000K light, the illumination is 3800 lux at 3.3' (1 m).

I love this light I'm considering purchasing another. My only reason for not giving it 5 stars is the battery seat is flaky when using the Pearstone replacements to the sony. The contacts are not reliable the light will flicker off and on. Using tape on the battery back to eliminate the lose fit fixed the problem for me now its rock solid!

I went through two of these lights thinking mine was defective. I could not get the light up to 100% power with both color temperatures without it shutting off. After I returned the first light and experienced the same problem again, I decided to try different batteries. I ordered a $25 generic battery, the Maximal Power NP-F950/F970, and so far so good. The light can finally be used at 100% power without shutting off.
So be warned, even though your Sony batteries may still hold a charge and power your camcorder for an extended period of time, it may no longer be powerful enough to work with this light. I guess it has something to do with the fact that most Sony Cameras use about 7 or 8Ws and this light draws 22W.
The light does output a nice color and amount of light, but it requires a lot of power to do so.

Comments about Switronix TorchLED Bolt On-Camera LED Light:
I've used a variety of battery powered LEDs and some are better than others but this Torch LED is great. It's small, packs a huge punch with an equivalent of 200w output (with all LEDs full) and has the option of 0-100% dim day & tungsten as well as mixed for 200w output. I prefer the mixed output with their included diffusion as well as adding my own diffusion overtop, typically doubled up opal frost with an inch or two of covered wagon spacing to really soften the light. Works great for tight spots that need a light, also great for hand holding or booming a light for a moving subject. Also, great expendable light vests a litepanel 1x1, you can get a little riskier with the placement/use of this source and not feel the same burn as more expensive leds.

Comments about Switronix TorchLED Bolt On-Camera LED Light:
This LED light is invaluable. It is very bright and the light quality is great, not to mention super portable. However, I'm giving it 5 stars because it costs about twice what it should, and it's cheaply made, consisting of only plastic. People always complain about the diffuser housing but I've never had a problem with it. Other than that, this is an absolute must buy.

I bought two of these. Plan to use them in a run & gun small kit. Will use as primary lighting on shoots where AC is not accessible. Works great for accent lights where you need to hide a fixture in a small space. Terrific light output, enough for fill in shaded areas of daylight. Especially with two units at full output with no diffusion in. The feature of blending color temperatures is great! Build is solid and they seem to be very durable. Battery life seems to be as stated. A great value for the money! I'm very happy with this product.

I mostly use it for weddings and it works great. Best things I like is white Balance control and plus with original battery last four hour event, of course not continuous use, plus it works with my Anton Bower Bauer Tap connector.

This works well to provide fill light in an ambient lighting situation, and if you have two of them, you could use them in the dark as key and fill. Blending the color temperatures will enable you to match the existing, or create a color contrast for dramatic effect-- just know that getting the perfect blend will of course diminish the overall output. I did not get much help from the included diffusion panel, but a 30" umbrella used reflectively or shoot-through creates some beautiful soft light and subtle shadow transitions. IMHO, this light, combined with the battery, is more weight than I want on my camera's hot shoe, so I just use this on a light stand. Way more total output than other cheaper LEDs. As always, keep the light close to your subject for the softest, most flattering look.

Comments about Switronix TorchLED Bolt On-Camera LED Light:
I use only LEDs. They are light, and don't take up much room. Most of my video shoots are in the field (canon 7D; 24-70mm f/2.8L Canon SLR Lens). I needed at least 1 light that could throw some light, so I overpaid for this feature. I will update this post once I get a few more samples. I am very disappointed that the AC adapter was not included, but this is the smallest light on the market featuring a daylight spot!! Fingers crossed.

Comments about Switronix TorchLED Bolt On-Camera LED Light:
Firstly, I'm not a professional musician as the profile implies... I'm a professional director and cinematographer. But that check box was the only thing "professional" available. Unusual, since this review is for a LIGHTING instrument.
This seems to be a great little instrument. We've only used it on one shoot so far, but it performed beautifully.
We didn't exactly use it as intended (as an on-camera light), but we needed a daylight-balanced instrument that we could use as a back/hair light on a specific location shoot. It had to be battery powered, and small/light enough that we could put it out on a 10-foot horizontal strut. It worked very well for that purpose. We ordered this with next-day delivery, but for some reason even though our order was placed early in the day, it did not get processed until the NEXT day... ergo the light did not actually arrive until we were already on location on the morning of our shoot. The great thing, though, is that it arrived with the battery already mostly charged, so we were able to put it into service right away.
I was really pleased with it all 'round.
The ONLY real con I'd mention only applies to people like me, who WON'T be using it as an on-camera light. It only has a shoe connector... therefore we had to rig up an adapter so it could be attached to a standard 5/8" baby pin for use on a C-stand or grip arm. I'm sure there are many people who would like to use this off-camera as well, so it seems like that would be something that Switronix should include.
The only other negative is that you can't power it by AC right out of the box. The only power provisions are the on-board battery, or brick power via the PowerTap connection. That's all fine, but sometimes you'd just like plain 'ol AC. Fortunately most of us have drawers full of 12v "wall wart" adapters and most of them will power it just fine (provided it has the right connector)... but just be forewarned that no AC adapter is included with the instrument.
Good little light.

Comments about Switronix TorchLED Bolt On-Camera LED Light:
I just received this a week ago so I don't have a lot of experience with it yet but I was VERY pleased with how much light it produces. I'd say it is as powerful as a the floodlights I have used before. That is an impression, though, not a precise measurement. It comes with a diffuser. Without the diffuser, it behaves as a strong spotlight. I am thinking this might be useful in my work as a way of illuminating distant subjects when using a telephoto. With the diffuser, it is a very effective flood ... one that is very compact, fairly light, and quite bright. It is actually lightweight enough to attach to the camera and use without a tripod.I will be using this to take videos of horses performing in an arena. In this setting it really helps that I do not have to worry about wires. Typically I photograph from the center of the arena as the horse moves in a circle around me. This, of course, means that I cannot have wires on the ground. The roof is high so routing wires is a bit of a project. Not a problem with this lamp.I'd be happy to recommend this to a friend.

This is just ewxactly the product i was looking for. I am an amateur photographer and at times I have difficulty in making all the required adjustments with a flash to take still pictures. With this unit, I can continue to take pictures without the worry of the propwer lighting. Once you adjust the correct lighting in the room, you are set to go to do your task. No hassle. for me, I consider it to be an excellent product. The only drawback, because it is permanent, the light is very glaring to the eye but once you get the proper position, there is noting to worry.

Have used these for interviews in tight space environments like offices and conference rooms. Really nice not to worry about AC cords and heat. Having the ability to adjust the Bolt's light temperature to conform to a room's temp with windows is a great feature. Their size are unobtrusive and the throw is impressive. Many many times I'm a one-man production crew and can carry 2 of these in an over the shoulder hard case. You will need a solid mount with these and not the cheap swivel mounts that are worthless in my eyes. Manfrotto has a great mount B&H # MA492LCD Mfr# 492LCD that I use with light stands. Used these in an office just the other day and the client walked up to them and was impressed by their size and efficiency. Step up to the Bolts, you won't be sorry.

This is a wonderful on camera light. I use a shoulder style handheld rig (with a single battery pack that runs everything) for filming and being able to tap this light into the battery system, out of the box, is awesome!
My only issue is the attached diffuser. I wish that it would "lock-in" somehow after you slide it into the small tabs. It feels like it would slip out during some run and gun moving.
This is a must have light for anyone working with a shoulder rig. Its bright, throws light further than any other light I have owned and is true to color from its dimmest to brightest setting.

Comments about Switronix TorchLED Bolt On-Camera LED Light:
This is a great portable on or off camera light. I've used it on a couple of shoots so far and it's been great. The provided battery kit provides nice power. I've ran the light at full power for up to 2.5 hours on a fresh charge with the provided battery. At full power this light can be quite bright compared to other lights of similar size. The ability to dial in color temp without fumbling with filter gels is a godsend. I'm able to easily match the ambient light within seconds.
The light itself seems to be well built. How durable it is remains to be seen but first impression is that it is solid. The only downside of it is that it is fairly bulky and heavy light. And it does draw quite a bit of power (22w) at max settings. With the battery on it, it can get a little heavy on top of a camera. Careful not to put too much torque on your camera hot shoe.
At max settings it can get pretty warm after a while, but the built in heatsinks seem to be adequate to dissipate the heat.
