The PR8E from SM Pro Audio is an eight channel microphone preamp that features XLR/TRS "Combo" input connectors, 48V phantom power and a built-in -20dB pad, switchable for each channel. Individual phase reversal switches are provided next to the eight balanced output sockets on the rear panel.

The unit's carefully structured single circuit board design results in an exceptionally low noise pre-amp level while delivering high gain. Tailored to suit a wide variety of applications, the PR8E is perfectly suited for use as a front-end device for many hard disc recording systems, as well as adding additional microphone preamps to digital mixers and sound cards.

Comments about SM Pro Audio PR8E - Microphone Preamplifier:

I purchased two of this for the use as 16 mic preamps combined with Universal Audio's Apollo 16. I use this for on-the-go recordings. This unit furnishes everything I need and has nothing that I do not need such as AD and DA converters.

Goods: Front XLR/TRS makes cable connections easy on-the-go. Independent phantom switch on each channel are on the front panel. Quiet preamps. Gain increases linearly as the knob is turned. No audible sound distortion. Low price.

Not so good: Flimsy box and front panel. Sharp corner of the box may cut your finger. Cheap switches. Variable gain control resisters create noises when they are turned. But eventually became quiet after turning many times. Input connectors are plastic. Cheap tiny power switch. Big external power supply.

This is a cheaply built unit, but functions perfectly for my objectives. I wish switches last long.

Comments about SM Pro Audio PR8E - Microphone Preamplifier:

I use this preamp for live sound applications to boost mike outputs for a stage monitor system. This is the only 8-channel preamp I've found in this price range and it's a well-made, solid performer. B&H had the best price and their usual flawless service made this purchase a no-brainer!
