When I bought this I was mostly interested in the BNC tester, but now that I have had it for a couple of weeks I am using it for other connections and as a continuity checker (using the enclosed red and black wired touch wands.). The product is sturdy and heavy. There is a dial to check continuity for each post. I would prefer some type of light display that shows all continuity points at once, but the dial does work well, it's just one more step required.
As with most things, you get what you pay for... this tester is inexpensive and covers a lot of connector types, but uses cheap connectors that won't last very long in any professional environment. I bought it primarily to test BNC video cables on set and one of the connectors broke after testing only 10 cables.
Rather than dealing with the hassle of returning the unit and getting another unit with the same low quality connectors, I soldered in proper chassis mount BNC connectors to see if I could turn it in to something more useable. If i can gain some life out of it this way, then great. If not, lesson learned.
I would recommend this unit for hobby applications only.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend
