The slate gray Pro Messenger Bag 200 AW from Lowepro is a shooters bag and a bit larger than Lowepro's Pro Messenger 180AW bag. This is a slightly different style of bag than a traditional shoulder bag since it features Lowepro's exclusive FlexFlap that opens and closes without buckles or snaps. The touch fastened closure opens and closes with ease - the way you want a bag to open when you need your gear at the drop of a hat. When the shot comes along, you'll be ready with gear in hand. The interior is divided in half with main compartment and a zippered storage pocket. Hence, the bag is made to hold a pro DSLR with grip and attached zoom lens, plus two extra lenses and a flash in main compartment or a pro DSLR with grip and attached 70-200mm f/2.8 zoom lens (facing sideways), plus a flash in the zippered compartment.

It's made from a tough exterior canvas-like material that is made to take a beating and meets Lowepro's usual high standards. The shoulder strap is wide, adjustable and padded since Lowerpro knows you'll be outside much of the day and need to be comfortable. However, if the weather turns against you, they've included a neat All-Weather cover that can be rapidly deployed for complete protection from the elements.

The interior is filled with adjustable dividers that permit you to configure the bag to suit your equipment needs. There's also a zippered interior pocket that can hold additional gear. A SlipLock Attachment Loop is included on each side for those small quick grab items that you don't want to waste time searching for in your bag such as a pouch, keys, flashlight or cleaning cloth.  As a final touch, there's a Dual Purpose Pocket in the rear that can be opened and used as a trolley sleeve.

Backed by Lowepro's lifetime warranty, this bag will get you up, out and shooting - in all kinds of weather and with the gear you need in a bag that doesn't weigh you down and is easy to use.

Comments about Lowepro Pro Messenger Bag 200 AW (Slate Gray):

I use this to carry my mirrorless digital and my film rangefinder system. It can also hold my D3s and lenses, but I prefer a backpack for the larger, heavier gear.

I replaced a ThinkTank Retrospective 30 with this bag. I prefer the size and organization features of this bag (zippered pockets, etc). Of the canvas style bags I've owned (Domke F2, ThinkTank R30, etc.) This is my favorite bag.

I have the Nikon D800 with extra battery pack, two lenses, and two speed flashes...I still have room. The shoulder strap doesn't slip with 15 lbs of gear. Looks really good too.

Comments about Lowepro Pro Messenger Bag 200 AW (Slate Gray):

The Lowepro Pro Messenger 200 AW is a great messenger bag for a photographer looking for a discreet solution to carry their gear around a crowded city or to an event. I have owned the bag for 2 weeks now and I must say, it s an exceptional bag. There are enough pockets to fit my gripped Canon 7D with an attached 24-70, 70-200, 10-22, and a Canon 580EX II Speedlight, all comfortable in the main compartment. This bag offers small pockets for miscellaneous gear all over it. I was dissapointed to find there was not a designated spot to fit an iPad 4. Instead, I place my iPad in the front pocket (where the product image shows two camera bodies placed) The magnetic flap is a great feature if you are shooting an event and want to stay as quiet as possible.

        PROs:

        1.) Lots of storage options
        2.) Fits a gripped Pro-DSLR and 3-4 lenses with a flash
        3.) Solid build quality

        CONs:

1.) It could be a bit deeper
2.) Does not have a designated spot for a tablet

Comments about Lowepro Pro Messenger Bag 200 AW (Slate Gray):

After years of hauling photo gear around in a variety of bags, I'm convinced there is no single bag that will work for every application but this one comes pretty close. I can fit a body with lens and vertical grip attached, three other lenses (including a 70-200 f2.8) a speed light and a variety of accessories in this bag. It's comfortable enough to carry all this gear for several hours either over a shoulder or across the chest. Although its a bit unstable on rough terrain, the soft sides wrap around my hip a bit which helps with comfort and stability. Easy access to all the gear is one of the best features about this bag and I love the retro look and rugged build.

Comments about Lowepro Pro Messenger Bag 200 AW (Slate Gray):

From past reviews I knew that the bag wasn't perfect. But I needed SOMETHING. ANYTHING. I needed a more professional system from what I was using. I shoot a lot of weddings and having the right gear on me and not being slowed down for a second because of workflow hiccups is something I simply cannot afford. I've purchased other, smaller messenger bags... I was recently using the thinkTank lens changer (which is still my favorite system for less demanding events). I was hoping to have a bit more lens storage, better access to a clip-board, a place to put my camera body, and a place for my flash. This bag delivered. I was hoping to get 4 pro lenses in here - NO GO. (I'm going to have to keep the fourth on my belt in a lens case still) But with the extra storage I can get a flash in here. NICE. The side pocket lets me put a flash battery pack in which is simply AWESOME. The other side pocket fits my memory card wallet which provides excellent accessibility. (a sort of caribiner can latch to the wallet ensuring it can't fall away). Other pockets are great to have for other gadgets (I store flash receivers/transceivers, light meter, flashlight, extra batteries). The whole weight compared to my more slim system is very noticeably heavier and I require rests from it on my 13 hours weddings. This was to be an obvious downside. The flap system that everybody else loves is simply awesome. It's very fast (especially compared to ThinkTank's version) and very efficient. It gets a star unto itself!Construction is excellent. Very tough. Shoulder strap is very comfortable and the sliding pad is very nice. Why the loss of star? The dividers. The inside could have been done so much better. The dividers themselves were a huge hassle my first wedding day. Lenses would get stuck, and putting them back in their slots was an embarrassing struggle. My second wedding I decided to take some scissors to the dividers and modify them so that the top flaps were out out of the way (patched them up with gaffer tape). This mod only slightly helped. My third wedding, I decided that because the velcro dividers were so flimsy that I would reinforce them. I cut some sturdy board and tapped them along the sides of the dividers. Not perfect (a little too hard), but my lens slots (and the whole bag) now hold their shape and getting lenses in and out are so much easier. I think that because the bag is so wide that it bunches in at the centre and everything squishes. My boarded dividers keeps everything firmly in place and problem solved. I now love my bag. It was a lot of hassle to work out the kinks, but worth it now that I can shoot my weddings without the headaches I experienced from my previous, less versatile bags. If you are a professional and demand the best for the job and you are comfortable taking scissors to your new bag and don't plan on selling it, I highly recommend. Or just leave the dividers as is and learn to deal with them like I'm sure most others have done...NOTE: the photo depicting the two camera bodies in the front pockets is laughable. May be possible with a grip-less $800 camera body, but nothing else!

Comments about Lowepro Pro Messenger Bag 200 AW (Slate Gray):

For those considering this bag as well as the Think Tank Retrospective line, I wanted to share a few things that I like better about this bag after owning both. First, the front flap uses velcro to close like the Think Tank, but when in silent mode, it also incorporates a magnet to keep the lid closed. The way this bag silences the velcro is much faster than Think Tank's method as well. This can be an important point for the pro who must work quickly. The front pocket on this bag zippers shut while the Think Tank uses velcro straps. Much prefer the zipper for keeping contents secure. The front pockets on the Think Tank are divided, while this bag you can choose whether you want to divide it or keep it as one large pocket. If you choose to divide it, you can fit a pro-sized body on each side of the divider, like the Think Tank. The other thing that this front pocket features that's lacking on the Think Tank bags are internal pockets/dividers for small items like batteries, memory cards, cell phone, filters, etc. Okay, onto the side pockets. There are two small pockets on each side of this bag which both have elastic expanders, which allow the pockets to stretch to accommodate a water bottle or 20 oz. Gatorade bottle. The side pockets on the Think Tank don't stretch to fit much of anything. Both bags have a zippered pocket on the rear of the bag. But the Lowepro features a zipper at the bottom of the pocket to put over the handle of your rolling luggage or rolling camera bag. Everything else I would say is on-par with the Think Tank Retrospective including strap, construction, materials, workmanship, etc. Both bags are excellent in these categories.

Now for the things I really don't care for. The main-compartment dividers are very flimsy (like the Think Tank)... so the bag doesn't hold its shape. This is fine until you want to pull a lens out of the bag while you're wearing it. Very difficult to do so, and you run the risk of dropping the lens while trying to pry it from this bag's clutches. I have fixed this problem, by using stiff inserts I had laying around from another bag. I no longer have this problem now. I had this same issue with the Retrospective. The other fatal flaw of this bag is that it has the tendency to tip forward. So far, no gear has spilled out...luckily. But, this could definitely be an issue. This problem alone, forced me to give this bag 4 stars instead of 5. I did not notice this problem with the Retrospective bag. But I didn't have it quite as long either.

As for the color of the bag: It is not as green as I thought is was going to be. Which I'm happy for. I would say it is a dark, charcoal gray with just a tiny bit of green if you catch it in the right light. It's actually a very nice color and wouldn't get mistaken for olive drab at all. At least that's what my bag looks like.

Almost forgot one of the things I like about this bag more than the Think Tank Retrospective. The rain cover tucks inside it's own pocket in the front panel of this bag, while the Retrospective rain cover is separate and takes up precious room inside the bag.

I take this bag EVERYWHERE! With a little planning, you can fit so much into this bag. I comfortably fit my body/battery grip & 3 lenses, speedlite, shutterboss & IR remote, spare batteries, filters & cloths, and some odds and ends. If I get more lenses, I'll have to start picking and choosing, but what I have now fits great.

The outside it a durable canvas, the inside is well padded and customizable, and the strap/pad is very comfortable. I'm a big guy, and the size doesn't bother me at all. My wife has carried it, and never complained about it being too much.

The price is steep, but I looked at a lot of other bags that were either not big enough, felt cheaply built, or had a weird look. This is a great bag, w/ a neutral style that will last. All in all, a great bag!

The adjustable padding on the inside of the bag is thick and absorbent, and the outside is built from strong, durable canvas that keeps the elements out. The only modification I would request is a zipper for the main inner compartment. Other than that, it's a very solid bag, comfortable, and efficient.

Comments about Lowepro Pro Messenger Bag 200 AW (Slate Gray):

We got this bag for our work intended mainly to carry Canon 1D MkIV, 24-70L and 70-200 f2.8L. There is more space enough to put a couple more L lenses (not white bodies) if we need to. The bag is big and gets heavy if you filled with stuff. I personally have 160AW and it's much smaller and comfortable to carry for walk-around purpose. To me 200AW is for more serious use like wedding or something that you need to carry multiple cameras and lenses, but it's a little bit too big just to carry around for a walk. Otherwise it's built well. The shoulder pad is comfortable enough. I love the function of a silent mode. Velcro is secure enough to keep you equipments inside of the bag. But for a long distance hiking, I suggest to get a backpack to split the weight on your shoulders.

Comments about Lowepro Pro Messenger Bag 200 AW (Slate Gray):

Like usual, Lowepro made another great quality bag. The material for this bag great all around. The entire main compartment is a pain to use, in a good way, because all of the sides are made to attract little velcro hooks. It makes it difficult to set up your compartments with the provided dividers but once you have them set in the way you want them, they'll stick and hold in place without worry of them moving out of place. On the outside for both sides of the bag, above the elastic pockets is a stitched strap that can be used to hold a carabiner if you want to. I like to use that to carry a Nalgene bottle (a plastic water bottle is not enough water to last a day) or to carry an umbrella for wet days. Yes, there is an included weather cover but that doesn't cover you, just the bag. The carabiner can also be used to carry whatever addition accessory you can latch on.

I use this bag to carry my gear around whether it is to shoot or to go to class. I like using this bag to carry my gear to class because I can store a notebook and take it in and out of the bag without revealing the contents of the bag to others. For me, it's just an extra precaution from those out there with sticky fingers. Unfortunately, there is not enough space in the back pocket to fit a full-sized notebook but you can still fit a composition notebook or a spiral notebook of that size. In the main compartment, I have set up my dividers to allow enough space for a flash, a 70-200 2.8, 24-105, 17-55, with any of those attached to a 40D, and enough space for one more regular-sized lens. Even with either lens attached to the camera, the arrangement is set up to easily accommodate the lens size.

I have had this bag for about two weeks now with constant, almost daily use, and I have no cons to report back to you besides the bag being occasionally too bulky and an uncomfortable strap. When there are extra camera bodies, even just one extra body, stored in the front zippered compartment, the bag can get pretty bulky. It can be a pain to walk through crowded areas, making the bag unintentionally bump into people or things. The ends of the non-removable shoulder pad are rather hard and they can dig into the area under your shoulders. It took me a little while to find the sweet spot to place the pad and it has been better.

Overall, this is a great bag and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a messenger style camera bag.

Comments about Lowepro Pro Messenger Bag 200 AW (Slate Gray):

I was very indecisive on whether to get the 180 or the 200 I first choose the 180 arranged the dividers and put my gear in. I was able to fit my Sony A900, wide angle 19-35, 28-70 2.8, 70-300, and 50mm macro, my rocket blower, assortment of cokin filters and a fair amount of extras, batteries exc. in the front. But it was full and rather plump, not relaxed. I love the bag and decided that I will use it in its rightfull time and place so instead of returning it, I bought the 200 and its awesome. I can also carry my other body and a flash, everything is not crammed in there so it conforms to my body. I LOVE bolth of these bags and highly recommend them, very well made, great comfortable and very good looking material. You can never go wrong with Lowepro.

I bought this to supplement the big backpack that carries all the gear that I own. Most times I travel with a DSLR with a telephoto plus one/two other lenses and a flash and don't need the bulk of the backpack. This bag can also carry my iPad, cell phones, passport, tickets, and other accessories.
The bag is a bit expensive but the quality is top and comfortable. I just wish it had a larger side pocket for a water bottle and "snap" straps on the flap to supplement the velcro closure.

A selling point for me on the bag was that it had a nice range of small pockets/divisions in a front compartment, which I find necessary and missing from many bags today. It is also discreet, doesn't scream "camera bag" which is important for me on certain assignments. It seems very rugged as well (I've had it for about a month now). Would have liked it in classic NYC black (lol), but I am warming to the "slate gray", which I'd call a dark-ish green (it's good to branch out). Really nice strap that doesn't twist around and is very comfortable. As long as you try not to fit too much in the main compartment, using it for streamlined gigs is a nice support. I am enjoying it a lot.

I have 3 bags and this will be used all the time. The shoulder strap is great for the weight you can put into it. The bag holds all the stuff you will need for a day shoot.

the only time ive used it so far was for a skate shoot. i had my canon 1D mark II with the ef 50mm f/1.4 attatched and the ef 70-200mm f/2.8 standing vertically on the inside. I also hade a video camera. I was skating with the bag on shooting video and photos. it was very nice, but when we were just walking along, it was bouncing around. i think im just going to have to shorten the strap. i am very please tho :)
