Works great for everything else, but it fails to read 32GB Lexar Professional 1000x UDMA 7 CompactFlash Memory Card. The files would be read at the right sizes but corrupted. I've ran MD5 digest on the same file read from another reader, and they are indeed different. Contacted Hoodman support, and the sales VP actually followed up with me in person. After learning the problem, I've not heard from them since. Keep checking their firmware site, and there's no update since my last reported the problem more than 2 months ago (08/12).

Comments about Hoodman USB 3.0 UDMA Reader:

I have had too many CF / card readers break or otherwise stop working. So I got the industrial version and this one is definitely built to last.

Comments about Hoodman USB 3.0 UDMA Reader:

I am a big fan of Hoodman products. From there memory cards with LIFETIME warranty to card readers. All of their products are durable and built for quality. This reader supports USB 3.0 and is backward compatible for USB 2.0

I currently use it with 2.0 HOWEVER, when I do decide to upgrade my MBP I will be equipped with USB 3.0 and will not have to go and spend more money for a faster card reader. BANG FOR YOUR BUCK!

Not sure what's going on here but when I plugged in the USB 3.0 Hoodman Steel Reader into my iMac (mid-2011 model) I get an error that says it's drawing too much power.
I was really looking for a way to speed up my workflow so this is disappointing.

Comments about Hoodman USB 3.0 UDMA Reader:

I bought this reader for transferring RAW images from my CF card to my MacBook Pro. I had been connecting my Canon camera directly to the Mac, and it was taking about twenty seconds per image to do the transfer. I'm transferring hundreds of wedding photos at a time, and was waiting hours before I could start editing them on the Mac. Yesterday I used the Hoodman UDMA reader and transferred 320 RAW images in just 19 minutes. I never dreamed that a top-of-the-line reader could make that much difference. It saved me an hour and a half! I would highly recommend it.

Performed well, but not the best, in my tests against several UDMA-7 and UHS-1 cards. You can see the study comparing this card reader with the Moshi, Lexar, SanDisk and Delkin at pietrzyk.us

Comments about Hoodman USB 3.0 UDMA Reader:

I'm sorry to say mine didn't last long. As a high school photography teacher I'm always looking for a little extra strength in the design of a product as students are often less sensitive to the handling of equipment then most professionals. So I have a special appreciation for the old SanDisk Image Mate CF card reader that has served us well for years when all other brands have failed. The problem is in the bending or pulling out of the pins. The readers work best when they include a long tunnel for the CF card to slide down which naturally aligns the pins with the sockets in the card. So when I saw Hoodman's RAW Steel unit I purchased it thinking it would give me similar service as the old SanDisk that is still in use. But alas the Hoodman lasted just a few months before the pins were bent. You could argue that abuse is abuse and any reader wouldn't survive 16 year olds who won't slow down and be careful, but the SanDisk just keeps running under the exact sam conditions. In any case, that was my experience. I hope you have better.

Bought to use with a new computer with USB3. Much faster than previous USB2 reader.
                                              Appears to be very rugged.
